| Soten-ni-zase chapter 11 . 11/1/2012
Oh Poppy, if only you knew.
Or if only you weren't so wrapped up in propriety _
| Kimberly T chapter 11 . 11/1/2012
/Poppy will never say so, because it is vulgar to compliment commoners too much (it goes straight to their heads)/
/It is inappropriate to be friendly with servants. To confide in them and seek comfort in them./
After all, they might get Ideas. Servants should Know Their Place, and never hope to rise above it.
Very sad, this attitude. There's always an element of fear in every master-slave relationship; the master's fear that one day the slave will realize the master actually has no right to treat them that way, and rebel.
| Kimberly T chapter 10 . 11/1/2012
Yeah, dealing with a bemding prodigy would stir up all kinds of sad memories for this Nanny.
| Fullmetal Wetback chapter 11 . 11/1/2012
Oh, if only Poppy knew who was fixing her hair...I sense a shift in the story. I bet Lao's mom is the one who screws Ursa over.
As always, excellent work!
| Argen-Lobo-Ridder chapter 11 . 11/1/2012
aw! stupid court relationships if it's done in private who's to care?
| Argen-Lobo-Ridder chapter 10 . 11/1/2012
oh the irony in that one simple statement
| Argen-Lobo-Ridder chapter 9 . 11/1/2012
Aw! I'm sure Ursa can at least teach Toph the real important stuff about bending that isn't the physical moves.
| Beloved Daughter chapter 11 . 11/1/2012
A fascinating insight into Toph's mother's life. I loved it. I especially loved how even though Poppy doesn't realize what is going on, she still loves Toph in her abstract way. Loves her enough to fight her mother in law with the issue of binding Toph's feet, after all.
| grandiose6 chapter 11 . 11/1/2012
Possibly she just irritates germs away from her.
ahaha i love this line! and also the bonding moment with Poppy and then the hierarchy reasserting itself...
| Always-Striving chapter 11 . 11/1/2012
Wow. It seems that Ursa is just growing on everybody here, doesn't it? The visit with Toph's grandmother should be interesting. I have to laugh at the thought of that being cannon though, since Toph would probably spit. At some point.
I can understand Poppy's feelings towards the proper relationships though, it's just how she was raised and what she was lead to believe. But again, it seems that Ursa is just growing on people.
On a completely different note; "The woman is never ill. Possibly she just irritates germs away from her." LOL! Sounds like quite a charming woman, don't you think?
| Always-Striving chapter 10 . 11/1/2012
I just love the way Toph's childish narrative is somehow able to get the point across so clearly. Seriously, I can envision this PERFECTLY. Great work!
A few questions though: was Ursa sad that Toph's a prodigy because Azula was a prodigy, because she's not supposed to be an earthbender, or because of some other reason altogether?
| Always-Striving chapter 9 . 11/1/2012
Beautiful chapter as always, thank you so much for updating! And three in a row, I'm going to go keep reading now.
Oh, also, I loved the way you were able to capture Ursa debating with herself. My only complaint is that I wish there was more dialogue, but since this is just to record her thoughts...I guess it can't be helped.
| Coyote chapter 11 . 11/1/2012
That was a surprise. A pleasant one.
This Poppy is an interesting read.
Is the "over-familiar" behaviour of Nanny intended to be the reason of her departure?
| DonnadelLago chapter 11 . 11/1/2012
Wow, three treats in one day!
The more I read this fic, the more I want to know about Ursa. How did she get there? What happened in her travels?
I'm also curious to read how you'll deal with Zuko finding her. Or are you going to make her find him?..
| BlueLion chapter 11 . 11/1/2012
Oh if she knew, who's the superior and who's the inferior in this social relationship. Superb. I'm looking forward to the next chapter ...
