It's easy . . . he's just decided to change her instead of kill her. Once she's a vampire, Edward won't want her anymore, because she won't be easily manipulated/dazzled, won't smell good, and will be stronger than him. She will easily be able to deny him, and the way she responds to Jasper will make it clear to Carlisle, Esme, Emmett and Rosalie that they are mates. Besides, Jasper could call and inform Emmett and Rosalie that he bit and changed Bella because she's his mate and ask for their help in defending her while she changes, until she is awake and able to choose between the two men herself. Rosalie would not like that she was changing, but since it was already in progress, she'd want Bella to have a choice when she awoke, and Rose likes Jasper better than Edward. Plus, if Rose realizes that Edward was forcing himself on Bella, using her to boost his own ego, it will be too reminiscent of Royce's treatment of Rose for Rose not to take offense. Not to mention what that'll say about Alice's and Edward's treatment of Jasper and the trustworthiness of the duo.

So how killingher was the best decision?

Oh, gosh that was a bummer. Jeez.

But, besides that, I thought you wrote it well. It was a very interesting idea. I got the somber tone from the beginning. Picked up a sense of hopelessness there.

As for Bella being out of character - yes and no. At the beginning of Twilight she actually displayed a bit of sarcastic wit here and there. Then she met Edward and that interesting part of her character got shot all to hell.

Her canon character would also cause her to sacrifice herself, and cause pain to Jasper in order to keep from "hurting" the others.

Like when she hurt Edward so she could try to selfishly keep Jake around. So yes, Bella, was always being called "selfless" despite the fact she did have many extremely SELFISH thoughts and actions.

But, how could she doom Jasper to a life of misery? How could she selfishly have herself ended (too chicken to do it to herself) and leave Jasper behind, to most likely end up offing himself?

So, she'll end her own misery, dick over Jasper, just so the rest of the Cullens don't end up unhappy. (Was that the point? I hope I got the point.)

On the other hand (and isn't there always another hand?) I can't see Jasper going along with the idea of killing her, or allowing her to try to kill herself. I could see him killing all the Cullens to have his mate for himself.

Unless! He drains her enough to knock her stupid self out, then loads her up with venom to change her.

(And that would be my insane wish to see a "happy ending" because life does not have happy endings.)

A technical thing I noticed.

This line (and there's a couple-few others):

The way this is put together makes it look like Jasper is saying "What can I say, I enjoy being different." I was momentarily confused, went back and read through it again and then I got it. Okay, I admit I'm a little slow.

Maybe like this?

I shrugged. "What can I say, I enjoy being different."

Jasper stepped closer, his eyes darkened. I stepped back as he moved closer, only stopping when my back hit the kitchen wall, my smile still firmly in place.

Jasper hesitated slightly before he spoke. "There's something you should know." His smooth voice washed over me, his breath fanning over my face. His smell was intoxicating.

"And what's that?"

"You're not Edward's mate," Jasper replied, pitch black pools staring into my chocolate ones.

"I know."

That snapped him out of it. He straightened and his eyes returned to the beautiful honey colour I loved so much.

"You do?"

I nodded once. "How could I be his mate when I'm yours?"

A blinding smile lit up Jasper's handsome face, his shaggy blond hair framing his chiseled and scarred jaw. After a second, his grin dropped and his eyebrows creased softly.

I think this is a really interesting idea. I am not convinced that Jasper would choose killing his mate over killing the other six Cullen's, even at her request. Also, I am not sure that he would have to kill all of them. Would Rosalie try to kill JasPer as revenge for Alice and Edward? Maybe or maybe not.

This story might be stronger if told from Jasper's point of view instead so you can see the struggle he is having and why he thinks each person would behave the way they do. It would also add to the gruesomeness of Bella's death.

I hope you keep writing. I like a story that is not afraid to be painful and confront difficult situations.
