Ha, who knew Merida was afraid of rainstorms?
| HAFanForever chapter 1 . 11/19/2012
This makes me think of the dream Merida had from when she was a child and how the thunder and lightning scared her, so she hid under the tapestry her mother was working on and climbed into her mother's lap. Now that she's a teenager, Merida has turned into a fearless lass, so she feels she shouldn't be afraid of something like thunder anymore. So then when she goes to her parents' room, she doesn't want to admit to Elinor that she's scared, especially since she's already being groomed to know how to be a queen, so she needs to act mature in that way, too.
But yes, like Elinor says, Merida is going to be the ruler of DunBroch one day, so she needs to know what to do in order to do the job well and meet the expectations. Especially now that she's a teenager, so she needs to start having the lessons sooner than later, and that way she will remember them and know what to do as an adult. But Merida has a point; having lessons all the time get to be a bore for her, and she wants to have time to herself once a while and do what she likes to do best. So I like how you explain here of how Merida is able to take time to herself now and then to ride through the woods with Angus and practice her archery. Of course, Elinor has a point in that Merida should always tell her when she's going to leave the castle and to have Angus with her.
So now Merida still wants to say, and how can Elinor say no? Of course, it'll be a crowd for the entire family to sleep in that bed! But Elinor and Merida can still enjoy each other's company...thought it'll be a few years later when they finally can again, and how much Elinor's lessons drive Merida away from her. :(
This is a very good prequel to the movie, with it taking place a few years before the main part of the story. I like this because it gives the setup to when Merida starts having lessons with her mother and how they start to grow apart by then. But at least things turn out well in the end for them. :)
