I'm not sure why, but this story reminds me a lot of Earn It by MidWestMexican. it's not identical, and I'm not saying you stole it, but it's very similar. Astrid's dad being in a wheelchair, the talk in the forest, even hiccup faking the comsumnation. In that story she was a lot meaner though, and Hiccup faked it with paint instead of cutting himself.

wow .I love the drama and tensions on this chapter...that astrid scene in the last part is nice giving her some key moments...

Second or third time that I've read this and it still bears reading. Perhaps someday you would consider doing a sequel?
