|Reviews for The Trials and Tribulations of a Facebook and Fanfiction Addict|
| Lauren B chapter 10 . 2/27/2013
Well you have caused quite a buzz in the fanfic world. I happen to be someone who is unable to have a fanfiction account due to work and school. I use the library and they block a lot of things anyway. I read CKM's work and I am on facebook and I saw a lot of gossip about all of this. I was not able to read the post in chapter 11 that has since been removed but I guess someone copy pasted it and it went somewhat viral on twitter and facebook. I really just want to say I don't approve of whatever that guest said to you that seems to have started all this chaos. All guests aren't bad just limited in their way of responding. That said I really don't feel that attacking another author who might I add is very well known and well liked in the fanfiction world is a really good idea. She is so very hurt by your attacks and although she is repeatedly asked what you are saying and how it is going she is being so respectful toward you even though I'm not so sure many would. She really is a wonderful person and I wish you could of taken it to PM. I'm not sure what will happen to you due to this mess but I hope if you learn anything because of it, is that cyber bullies are never going to be accepted. Your attack backfired horribly for you and you went to a place you shouldn't have. I think had you ever gotten to know CKM (cutestkidsmom) you would have realized how amazing she is and talented. Good luck with your future endeavors
| Clean own yard chapter 11 . 2/26/2013
Please, if you are going to criticize others, make sure your own back yard is clean. Yes, the chapters occasionally contain grammatically mistakes, but as you pointed out here, we are all busy with real lives and miss things. But a quick perusal of your chapters found me noting quite a few mistakes, and don't get me started on this. I found comma splices and at least 5 other comma errors.
I saw your signed review and did not feel in met the definition of constructive criticism. It attacked and did not offer anything constructive.
| DanaLynn chapter 1 . 2/27/2013
Really, Redhead12! I have not read this story, but I am also a beta and a friend of Cute and you have the nerve to attack her in public, instead of in a PM? What are you, 12? If you have a problem with something, then you take it to them in PM, NOT in in an open forum, like you have made all of us do.
You want to make comments about grammer and punctuation, REALLY? Do you know that JKR, who is VERY FAMOUS, was told she used pronouns too much. Want to know who told her that? STEPHEN F*&% KING! You might know who he is! Do you know he was told, he could only write horror stories? Then he proved them wrong by writing under a fake name!
So, next time you want to open that trap of yours and attack someone, just remember, you have no idea who stands behind them! And bullying is for weak minded people. So, take from that what you want! BTW, I reported your ass!
| Leibeezer chapter 1 . 2/26/2013
This is awful!
| Guest chapter 1 . 2/24/2013
You have 10 chapters and 49 reviews and are one of the mean people that Cutestkidsmom talked about. How dare you slander her publicly with your mean criticism. Apparently we like her wording, spelling, techniques and it would do you good or well to take note and beg her to teach you something. We may get two chapters every week and how many chapters are you coming up with in the time you started this?
| ClancyJane chapter 11 . 2/26/2013
So I'm guessing you did your bullying publicly like this so you wouldn't look weak?! To bad that you just made yourself look weak and petty.
| pricana chapter 11 . 2/26/2013
Your chapter 11 post is uncalled for. If you were hoping to embarrass or make cutekidsmom look bad, let me just say you FAILED. What you did succeed in doing is making yourself look childish and petty. In the future I hope that you consider keeping these matters private. What bothers me the most is that from your post it looks like the issue started with a guest reviewer that compared you to cutekidsmom but not once has she attacked you personally in public. I do agree that what the guest reviewer said was uncalled for and should have kept their mouth shut but taking it out on the author is not their fault. I hope that your next post is an apology to cutekidsmom. She never asked to be brought into this.
| Eternally Edward's Girl chapter 11 . 2/26/2013
There is no reason for you to be using your story as a means to publicly slander another author. Do you realize your own story could suffer as a result? The only reason we all are here is because of our love of Twilight and the wonderful stories that have been written as a result. Cutestkidsmom nor any of us as authors or betas ever claim to perfect. I haven't read your story, but I'm sure it's not perfect either. It doesn't need to be! We read these stories for the plot and dedication put forth by the writer, not for some supposed misplaced punctuation. As far as commas go, they CAN and DO vary depending on the dialogue spoken by the character. I am the other beta for Salacious and I personally take offense that you chose to attack this author in this manner instead of handing this privately. I sincerely think this is bullying and I'm sorry you felt the need to take it this far.
| foolforedward chapter 11 . 2/26/2013
As I am the beta who sent you a private PM in response to the review to Salacious Chapter 26, and having been privy to the rather heated and may I suggest, puerile, debate that has ensued, I now feel compelled to respond in an open forum. I am saddened that it has come to this, but unfortunately, you leave me with no other option.
Firstly, I paid you the courtesy of sending you a message via PM, which you did not see fit to respond to. I bear no grudges, or make no judgements that you chose not to respond to my correspondence. What astounded me was the fact that you chose to forward my personal email to you to a friend, who the chose to start this saga.
Cutekidsmom, never rushes me to edit a chapter. I choose to edit the work as it becomes available. Any in punctuation as you claim, is my responsibility as the editor of her works, so please stop casting her in a bad light in this regard. In terms of your stance on the mistakes, namely that of misused commas in prepositional phrases, I have the following to say: (and I would like to preface this communication which follows by reiterating that, I would not normally go to an open forum on matters such as this, but you have taken the first step and I feel compelled to try and set the record straight. And I remind you that I, like everyone else, am human and capable of making mistakes. What I don't do, is to slander other people's work even when I see blatant errors). And BTW, I think you have a good story going. So, here is what I have to say about your comments about Salacious being riddled with mistakes:
In response to the allegation about “misused” punctuation made by the reviewer ReadHead12 regarding Salacious, chapter 26 specifically.
Given that I have received no response to my PM to the writer, I can only address the generality of her criticism, which reads:
In the spirit of constructive criticism, I would like to point out that this chapter has several common mistakes. There was misused punctuation, missing punctuation, a few run-on sentences, among some other minor things. I will say that you have a tendency to not use comma pairs while trying to set of non-essential clauses and prepositional phrases. I think everyone has done that before. I'm pointing it out, because it seems to be a weakness for you. It's nothing that can't be fixed.
It appears that this reviewer’s belief is that one should adhere to the general set of rules for comma usage.
Let me respond, by saying that the use of commas in creative writing, especially in the use of prepositional phrases, is to denote a pause. Although general principles of punctuation may apply, the author (along with the editor) determines the pace of the delivery of a sentence or piece of dialogue. It can also be used to convey to the reader, a particular speech pattern of a character, a period in time, or the speech patterns prevalent in a particular geographic region. People all over the world differ in the way they speak and the pace at which they deliver speech. Language is fluid not set in stone, and although I am very much a traditionalist in that I follow the standard, long practiced rules of the English language, I accept that English especially, always has an exception to the rule. And the use of commas in prepositional phrases is a perfect example of the oddities, which abound in this common but often misunderstood language.
Let me provide some examples from the works of some great authors:
“We walked out of the gallows yard, past the condemned cells with their waiting prisoners, into the big central yard of the prison,”
George Orwell, “A Hanging.” 1931
“Above the trees and rooftops the dingy glare of the London sky faded upwards into weak violet heights.”
Alan Hollinghurst, “The Line Of Beauty.” 2004
“On the counter near the stove in a silvery pan was a deep-dish berry cobbler.”
Toni Morrison, “The Bluest Eye.” 1970
Holt, Rinehart and Winston
The first example is one that this reviewer deems to be “the correct way to use commas with prepositional phrases, i.e. the use of multiple commas to separate prepositional phrases.
The other two, without commas, based on her opinion, should be deemed as misuse of punctuation. Both Hollinghurst and Morrison are well renowned, highly respected authors. Ms. Morrison is the 1993 winner of the Nobel Prize For Literature.
These authors’ works have been published by internationally acclaimed publishing house, and by the same rule used in her assessment, these publishers’ and editors too, would be deemed guilty of misuse of punctuation by this reviewer; specifically commas (or lack thereof) used in prepositional phrases.
Now, I would not usually go to such lengths to respond to a critique, except that in this case the public airing of one opinion has sparked an ugly debate, which is uncalled for.
In the name of sanity, I respectfully ask: let us all accept that there is not only one correct way to do things. Each editor and author has the right to use their own nuance in creating stories and characters. FF is supposed to be a forum for budding authors to spread their wings, test their creative boundaries in a supportive community. This is life not war people!
I work as an editor for well respected publishing businesses and I have never, in my time in editing or my formative years in very senior corporate roles, met with such vitriol and puerile notions. And from women, who are supposed to be the nurturing gender. For Shame!
And I apologize in advance for any errors you find in this message. I rushed myself through this, no one else is to blame.
| cutestkidsmom chapter 11 . 2/26/2013
I would like to simply say that I addressed the issue you had with my fic in private. I do not use Fanfiction for a forum against anyone. You have abused the guidelines of FFN due to this post and I will simply say it has been reported under the cyber bullying guidelines. Again this was brought TO my attention as I don't have time for things like this. You had a lot of potential with this story but I fear with the overload of reports this will get FFN may shut this story down. May I suggest you PM me and talk to me in private. I never brought anything public and an unfairly being attacked. I do hope you repost this story after it's removed and try and remember that this is about the fandom not about bullying. Good luck with your future and I'm sorry you felt like you couldn't respond to my PM like an adult and instead needed to openly bash me and in doing so only hurting your story.
