before I read this story, I just want to address the author note at the beginning: I personally really like Self-Insert stories. I just love reading how an author subjectively thinks that they would react in certain situations.

No, Ron is very clearly Harry's best mate - not because he's a dude, but because when he and Ron exile Hermione in year 3, they hardly miss a beat. In year 4, however, when Ron is the pariah, Harry is miserable.

It's the cornerstone as to why Harry/Hermione doesn't work. Harry broods and Hermione worries - put them together and they are miserable. It's why the canon pairings work - Ginny and Ron add fun to the group.

Well, yeah, there's a lot of hate for HPMOR - the author's whole thing is that Harry is an elitist prick who instantly dismisses people as being wastes of space if they aren't smart...

Written by a high school drop out who gets a lot of his science flat out WRONG.

He also uses Harry as an author's mouth piece so we can hear just how much the author hates Quidditch - a game plenty of people like in and out of the universe and one of Harry's favorite pastimes. I had no real desire to read much further after Harry spends a couple paragraphs ranting to Ron about how the Seeker position was invented for the King's idiot son because the author can't understand that Quidditch games can last for *months,* so it is quite possible that catching the Snitch isn't an automatic win.

Also, reading him denigrate Quidditch really just made me feel like the guy hated Harry Potter.

1) Hermione isn't in Ravenclaw because she dismissive that which Ravenclaw holds dear, showing she is not fit for that House. Or have forgotten her line when she sends Harry on to fight the Dark Lord? She basically says books and cleverness are not as important as friendship and bravery.

2) I don't know that you could pay me to give a flying fuck about Runes. I'm here to see how the plot of Harry Potter changes with your addition, not ancient language lessons.

I don't know that Yank is a pejorative - Yankee was, for sure, but we embraced that word so hard it lost all its meaning.

Also... writing a version of yourself being reverted to a younger age and then maybe getting into a relationship with a 14 year old is weird, dude. Like... Weird.

Oh good. This story isn't just going to be a "Ron Dumb. Ron Eat Food. Ron Spray Food." story. He's actually going have character and not just be a caricature that he so often is in fanfics.

It's really not fair to say that Ron is confused all the time - he gets the same grades as Harry, and Harry is the rough equivalent of a solid B student... in the subjects that matter. An O in DADA and EEs in everything except History, Astronomy (A), and Divination. Ron had the same, minus the O.
