Reviews for Amor Fati
Richard Ryley chapter 2 . 5/23/2013
I have to agree, I don't know where the previous reviewer's perception that Ranma-chan was acting like a "feminist" comes from. I thought Ranma was acting entirely in character; upset that Ryoga appeared to be trying to be kind to her only because of her condition, and doing her best to prove to everyone she was still male despite her outward appearance changing everyone's perception of her. And Ranma's comment about her trying to seduce Ryoga couldn't have helped.

There's actually little from male Ranma in this chapter, it almost makes him seem like he's not part of the story, except as a backdrop. From his assumption about the "mirror clone" being unmanly, it appears he may be trying to assuage his ego that he is still the one and only Ranma Saotome. But then he could just be teasing and provoking Ranma-chan as he does everyone else. Likely, a combination of both.

First, I want to say to take your time. The quality of writing is quite high here and I always appreciate a story that is willing to take its time, especially when it opens us to rich characterization, especially necessary given the premise. It's not explored often enough, but I really like the fact Ranma/Ran-chan ended up having a conversation with a soldier (and having him be both Basque and someone who lost to Franco was inspired), in particular a soldier who lost his battle, both as a metonymic device to echo Ranma's loss and to begin to distinguish this new character from the other. Also, because you're in Spain, I can't help but connect this Ranma to Jake Barnes from The Sun Also Rises. Both carry important wounds which make being with the woman they love impossible. Most importantly, though both characters have been battered, they ultimately are not lost to us.

Keep going and I can't wait to read more.
Garrett13 chapter 2 . 1/30/2013
Love the story so far... but male Ranma is a bit extreme. Ranma is not that insensitive.
And I hope to god this is not going to turn RanmaXRyoga though it probably will...
Dammit.
Pariah chapter 2 . 12/4/2012
You're drastically overstating the level of sexism, both overt and covert, in the Ranma1/2 continuum. What's more, you're going out of your way to make the less than convincing contention that Ranma would somehow turn into a feminist with self-loathing feelings towards her male ego. Not to mention you're going out of your way to include as much disdainful or backhanded commentary from her as you can with regards to the men around her. A few ironic comments with regards to her perspective (whether it be inferior or superior) vs. a male's would make sense. But you seem to be turning it into a one-sided theme, which is more than a little contrived.

Ranma's attitude has her come across as more self-righteous and arrogant than her male ego ever was or could be.

This is a really good story. It's pretty depressing, but I really enjoy reading depressing fics for some reason. I'll be waiting for your next update!
kana chapter 2 . 12/2/2012
I almost had a heart attack when I saw that you had updated. I really love this.
uragaaru chapter 2 . 12/1/2012
While I like the chapter on the while, I think the foreshadowing of fem!Ranma and Ryouga is too early. Granted there's always been, on some level of subtext, Belligerent Sexual Tension between that particular dyad, but I think the situation is too strange for fem!Ranma to process, even if perhaps more understandable in Ryouga. Unless you're doing a "mind is the plaything of the body" trope, which I would urge you to back away from, especially since you're avoiding the cliche of split-girl Ranma being "thrown away".
James Birdsong chapter 2 . 12/1/2012
Excellent story
Anon chapter 1 . 10/20/2012
Good begining. Looks like things are gonna get really interesting pretty quick
Richard Ryley chapter 1 . 10/17/2012
Yeah, definately sad, although if Ranma-male is the most reasonable choice to stay due to his impossible skill, then Ranma-female is EQUALLY reasonable. The men all seemed to forget that, but then they would. :D I imagine it must be terribly frustrating to Ranma-chan to still have the drive to be a man, and yet be completely aware of how others see her.

Then again, little touches like the sports bra and her exasperation with the macho behavior shows that she's undergone some development.

I'm looking forward to seeing this, and REALLY glad this isn't going to be an "abandon the second Ranma" story. There's plenty of that. I expect it's still going to be incredibly hard on everyone involved, especially Ranma-chan and Akane. Although your cover picture gives us a pretty good idea of who Ranma-chan's going to end up turning to.

SAD :'(
tuatara chapter 1 . 10/17/2012
Damn, this was so friggin' depressing. Every last bit of it. And it's only just getting started! It wasn't *bad*, by any means, but the whole affair made me so…sad, to put it simply, that I really rather doubt I'll find it in me to continue reading it. I'm quite sorry for that, as it's not at all a reflection of the quality of the story. It just bummed me the hell out, you see.

Regardless, thank you for sharing this. I'm quite sure others will enjoy it more than I did.
