I'm really loving this concept, I can't wait to see what you do with it. I've also read Culture Shock and I can see how that would help inspire this. One thing I have to ask though, can you make the pairing ANYONE but Hermione? Because, frankly, I've never seen how a relationship between those two could work without drastically reworking both of their personalities.

A good start. As a kid I loved the Harry Potter series but as it went on I found myself liking it less and less, to the point that I never actually finished the last book (stopped just about when Harry's wand broke, the whole "Who would've thought that trusting the creepy old hissing lady was a bad idea?" thing was just the last straw.) but as I grew up I also felt that we were told the barest story of this supposedly magical world, limited to the perspective of a young boy who goes in knowing nothing of it, is restrained from being told more about it and seemingly has no interest in learning of it himself.

For example in the first book we know that vampires exist when Quirrel talks about his turban but we learn nothing more about them. Dwarves appear on Valentine's Day in the second book but they're played as a bad joke and are never heard of again. Durmstrang and Beauxbaton are barely elaborated on besides location and a few rumors. You get the point, all the while Harry shows no real interest in learning more of any of these things unless it directly relates to his survival or class work.

All I’m saying is if I was a kid dropped into a fantastical new world of magic and mysterious creatures that I’d be bouncing off the walls trying to take it all in. Maybe that’s why I enjoy HP fanfics where Harry gets placed into Ravenclaw so much?

Rant aside; looking at the time line, Liara being 106 when Mass Effect takes place, she’s 94 now, I think… 98 when Harry is enrolled… 7 years… So he’d graduate just before the events of ME. If you should choose to base the Reaper invasion on Liara’s age rather than humanity’s calendar, of course.

As for plot, you could have Harry learn to control his magic by either: A) training it from the perspective of a Biotic, that is wandless Wingardium Leviosa, flying, barriers, etc. and goes to Hogwarts to learn what else he can do or B) realizing early on that he can do much, much more with Asari researchers being both awed and a little fearful of the implications of a race possessing such innate capabilities.

Having him live among aliens for four years (most of whom treated him better than the humans he knew), Harry could be much more accepting of non-human Earth races such as Goblins, Dwarves and Elves; hidden races and cultures that Liara eagerly asks Harry to research in addition to the magical culture.

There’s also the minor point of magic’s interaction with alien technology and if it can function in places like Hogwarts. I don’t see why it wouldn’t but after 4 years of Harry practicing with his “Biotics” and breaking nearby equipment (in the same way magic messes with any post-WWII era tech in the Dresden Files), I imagine that they’d find a way to shield at least an omni-tool for him to take.

I really like this story and I the plot is unusual and refreshing and I greatly enjoyed the chapter.

Heh, didn't quite expect something like this, but it was pretty good fun. I've read some HP books and watched all the movies, but haven't 'really' gotten into the fandom beyond that, but I'm more interested about the Liara/ME part. I'm actually more curious now about the relationship Liara would have with Hermione, she's my favorite and in many ways I think Liara's kindred spirit, so that should be interesting. :)

Some great moments there, I can't believe you managed to use the stargazing scene and made it fit. I wasn't super fond of it when it popped up in the game. Also, Liara the Jedi. I'm now imagining her wearing a mask like Darth Nihilus from KotOR 2. There's... something very appealing about that picture.

Anyway, if you have more of this to share, I'm game. :)

it's certainly ambitious to start talking about a four (or more) book series before you even finished one multi-part story. well, I wish you the best of luck with writing this, because it sounds rather interesting. then again, I would've rather preferred that Liara did not come upon a young Harry doing accidental magic, but a grown up one doing it deliberately, so they'd be something akin to equals.

A nice start for this story I can't wait to see what is going to happen next when Liara comes home with Harry her new little brother, keep up the good work and post agian soon as I must say its is so hard to find a decent Harry Potter Mass Effect fic.

As to pairings I approve of the Harry/Hermione so I hope you keep that and post again soon.

I like the premise of this story. I enjoyed it and am glad its a brother/sister thing.

But I must say ... Darth Liara is the bestest ever! Waiting for more!

A lot of potential to this story, I think you need to be a bit careful as some of the initial lines were a bit misleading, but the actual concept is a brilliant merging of the IP's without the normal cliches you generally see, so congrats are in order just for that amazing achievement, it even makes sense! My only real gripe is that I would like to see Harry with someone from the wider galaxy, mainly due to repeated stories with Hermione bashing. I look forward to seeing where you take this, best of luck and I hope it doesn't fall by the wayside like so many promising tales.
