This will always be such a painful lesson for them. The first time they are confronted with their parents mortality, suddenly everything becomes scarier and bigger and less known to them. And it all becomes far more precious to them too. I have a similar headcanon scene in my head where Brennan experiences a medical emergency and Booth teaches them to cope with the idea of their parents being frail by taking care of her all together as a family.

This scene is great, I've always wondered how the kiddos would grow up learning about the dangers of Booth's job. This is a really great depiction of that. And your writing! You summed up all of their realisations and thoughts so gracefully! really great job on this one

god this is such a turning point in their relationship, and I think you characterised them so well here. Booth's honesty in him not being ready, and him giving her his complete opinion on her having sex is just so important for her. Like that's the tool she needs to be provided with to make her best decision, and to make sure its her decision. I love the openness, the bitterness of them having to let their little girl go just a little bit more. And I LOVE Booth being the one to set the bar for her, taking her on a Daddy-daughter date bc he'll be damned if she isnt treated right. Fabulous!

okay i know its been years but you A/N at the end is so important. The thing is w B&B is that they're both still flawed people. Theyre not too perfect, they both hold trauma, Booth is too controlling over christine and her gender plays into that massively. Brennan is forceful with her views and even if she doesnt mean to, she can alienate her children because of that. THEY ARENT PERFECT! But they are normal! They have both been through so much in the show and theyre both still so in love. Aside from the obvious deviations from canon, you got a lot of this stuff right! These are realistic characters. these kids have trivial issues bc they live in an incredibly wealthy household with kind loving parents in a developed country, what do people expect? Let booth and brennan and their babies be happy gotdam

Okay so, to adopt this BRILLIANT chapter and give you my unsolicited hc for Christine (I know this differs VASTLY from ur own so please dont feel you have to read this). This is exactly how I see her and Booth as she grows up into an incredibly intelligent and strong willed young lady. I see them butting heads all the time like this. She's testing him, pushing him, and he pushes right back with his foot down bc he never had to do this part with Parker and Zach, being the youngest, is the most EASYgoing kid in the world. So christine is an opinionated, researched little teen who is ANGRY at the injustice of all the world and takes it out on her father a lot. But i think they become so close because of it. I imagine her being very SJW and anti-establishment, anti-cop and stuff and she will happily tell him that he is selling his labour to a fundamentally racist and corrupt institution. Ofc as she grows older her opinions temper and her world becomes less black and white but her sense of duty and justice that she gets from Booth means that her teen years are spent just butting heads with him all the time (but ofc they talk it out afterward each time so their relationship is never hurt and they become great friends as adults).
