| excessivelyperky chapter 2 . 5/2
Yes, in many ways Snape did have it worse as a kid-at least Harry had people who pretended for like him and he wasn't outright persecuted with the staff turning a blind eye to it. And he's right-time out in a cupboard is better than a beating, since food was scarce for both of them.
And he really is trying hard not to think how his mother hosed Snape, too.

This is a good story, but I think it could benefit from a confrontation with his former friends. Perhaps even years down the road when Lucius Malfoy tries to become the next dark lord and suddenly everyone wants Harry back to "save" them yet again.

Nice story, although rather sad. It does, however, jibe well, with many of the fics that show Dumbledore as a manipulator who was willing to throw either or both Harry and Sev to the wolves for his so-called "greater good."
I find it rather odd that some of Harry's staunchest supporters would desert him now. Ron I can understand, as he has always been jealous and often suspicious of Harry. Neville and Luna, however, have always been fiercely loyal and have seemed to see the real Harry when no one else ever did. Hermione pulled off a lot of powerful magic along with Harry, and she was the main one to keep him focused and determined during the times when he wanted to just abandon it all and give up. I don't understand why she would allow herself to be convinced that Harry was dark. She needs to learn to stand up to people and not abandon her friends. Sad ...

I'm loving it so far, but...well, I'm a little finicky about some subjects, including familiars. A familiar chooses the human, not the other way around. Most people go their whole lives without finding their familiar, but sometimes circumstance brings you together (like a birthday gift, or deciding that this time maybe you won't pick the runt of the litter). You don't just buy an animal and forge that sort of connection with them, and even if you do become so incredibly close with the pet over the years, chances are it could be just as happy with someone else. A familiar is the one to forge the connection, not the human, and it's usually almost immediate.
