Dracarot chapter 4 . 4/2/2013 Just to expand on your theories to account for squibs. I'd like to propose a hypothesis that while there is only one gene for magic there are other genes that may take away a persons ability to access it and prevent them from using magic despite possessing a magic allele. Hair color for examples isn't based on one allele, there is the allele for the color, the allele for how much of the necessary coloration is produce, etc. As to why such allele's would exist consider this. Imagine if in caveman times you had access to magic, no books to study, no teachers to mentor you, just wild untempered magic. While magic could make a caveman's life easier it would also carry risks. So a part of the evolution of humanity may have been the emergence of supressor alleles that would prevent someone from accessing magic, for any number of reasons (perhaps alleles tied to mental instability or exceptional muscles (the former because n insane wizard is as Rarity would put "The Worst Possible Thing!" While a particularly muscled human would already have a biological advantage in hunting and thus wouldn't need to risk his life on magic). That would also explain why the wizarding population is so small compared to the rest of humanity. Rowling gives us a number ofr the size of a Hogwarts class of 1000, (although seeing how few names are given people tend to think Hogwarts is even smaller), which based on the distribution of population in Britain according to age, would mean the wizarding population of Britian would be equal to roughly 8400. Then when Britians population is compared to the globes, that gives us a total number of global wizards at roughly 840000 In the time period that the books take place in. |
pixeljam chapter 4 . 4/2/2013 Awesome job, and so interesting. I loved Flitwick's section on the Will, the Wand, and the Word was really interesting and super helpful on the concept of magic. Great job on the details and the references back to Ponyville and Biology. Super interesting and really cool. All in all, interesting and very cool! |
WriterPON3 chapter 4 . 4/2/2013 Woill Harry be friends with Twilight and Spike and discover some pony ancestry? |
Guest chapter 4 . 4/2/2013 Still reading this story, still enjoying it. Keep up the good work. I love theory crafting, so while some may complain your eating paper, or cushioning your story, i loved it. |
Laconeko chapter 4 . 4/2/2013 Good job on the infodumps, they slotted nicely into the story without breaking the pacing. |
Stainless Steel Fox chapter 4 . 4/2/2013 As always, you impress with your work. No forced 'lets get Harry and Twilight together so they can start plot' but instead, a good ground work chapter. So many fics jump to Halloween as the first significant point. I never considered that Twilgiht might identify Harry with Rainbow Dash, but now you explain it, I can see why. I also like the fact that Twilight's presence means this Harry is having an easier time of it than in canon, though I know that was one of your base ideas. I eagerly await seeing how things work out now that we have got to Halloween. |
MutantRancor chapter 4 . 4/2/2013 You must have put quite a bit of thought into the mechanics of magic for this. Comparing spells between different systems that do essentially exactly the same thing? And working out how they can be very different mechanically with the same results? That's fairly impressive, there. As usual, I don't know anything about the MLP side of the crossover. However, I did catch something on the Potterverse side. The Water-Making Charm does not have a Q in it. It's spelled Aguamenti, with a G. With a lot of authors, I could just say it's not that important and ignore it, but you put a lot of emphasis on correct pronunciation in this chapter. Looking forward to more (of whichever story you get to first), -MutantRancor |
kazikamikaze24 chapter 4 . 4/2/2013 Bravo on such an interesting update! |
Theta 'Krypto' Nigma chapter 4 . 4/2/2013 Harry is actually upset on the day his parents died instead of just eating candy? Brilliant! Looking forward to more. |
Guest chapter 1 . 4/2/2013 *IIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!* Fangirl moment |
gadman85 chapter 3 . 3/31/2013 Great Story so far. I really loved Twilight's sorting. I was thinking she would end up in Ravenclaw but then I realized who it was that suddenly decided to go to a school in France instead. I also agree with her placement as well since she does match what the sorting hat said about her. I look forward to the next chapter. |
Guest chapter 3 . 3/25/2013 A very fun read. Merging the universes in a fun way. If not for the example of Hermione I would think Twilight would have been better off in Ravenclaw. Daring adventure is just a side line from her true vocation, the study of magic. _ If you are inclined, it might be fun to see her and Hermione interacting. At this stage in the HP series Hermione had a lot in common with the pre-friend Twilight. I can very easily see Twilight conspiring to teach the lonely girl the magic of friendship. Might I recommend you think about posting this over at as well. A "My Little Pony" Fanfiction site with some really good author software. |
