Reviews for An Unexpected Addition
Direwood chapter 19 . 4/27/2013
It's actually getting hard to review every chapter now becuase they're all so good and I don't want to stop reading to review. But I will try! But onto the story, I really liked Fili's rant at the end. He's just stated what every reader has probably felt up to this point. But I do like the slow build since it really allows Thorin and Bilbo's relationship to healthily and realistically progress. Romance doesn't completely take over a person's life, unlike what most movies and books make you think. But poor Fili, vomiting's never fun. And right on Bilbo and Thorin, too! XD
Direwood chapter 18 . 4/27/2013
I loved the roasting of the traitors! That's a reference to the three trolls in book and film, right? Hahaha, Bombur shouldn't be messed with simply because you should never mess with someone who handles your food. And I agree with Thorin, the whole city's gone mad! Donel and Frodo are adorable together and Bilbo's protective instincts over Fili were filled with feels. Poor Thorin's head is going to explode when he fnds out what happened to Fili.
Direwood chapter 17 . 4/27/2013
Wow, that was quite the exhilerating chapter. Dori being skilled with boats was something that I would've never thought of, but it actually fits his personality pretty well now that I think about it. Loved Bifur's joyride, too. And Thorin tucking Frodo into his shirts was adorable beyond words. Too bad about his chest hair, but I'm sure Bilbo can soothe his aches. XD

"You've got to be joking," Dwalin groaned. - I love the reference! Poor Dwalin's always getting blindsided by unpleasant things.

"I trust you with him." - Awwwwwww!
Direwood chapter 16 . 4/27/2013
Yay! None of the children are mortally injured or dead! Bilbo's actually pretty badass, too. It's nice to see the hobbit taking charge of a situation, even if he's using that nasty ring to do it. Thorin reassuring Frodo was also too cute for words. He's turning into a second uncle now.

"It's kinda small, but I think…owwww! Something bit me!" - Little dwarfling piranha! Dwina sounds like a tough runt so far.
Direwood chapter 15 . 4/27/2013
And the One Ring has finally made an appearance! I love how protective the dwarves are over the children. They don't have many of them, so it makes sense that they'd be vicious to anuyone who hurts them. And I like all of the medical and combat jargin. Gives the story a realistic feel. Vicious Bofur was my favorite part in this chapter. :D
Direwood chapter 14 . 4/27/2013
I actually like the "medieval"-ness that you've added in. Most adults can become absolutely vicious if anyone hurts the children in their lives. And since dwarves have so few children (Gloin's the only one who's an actual canon parent in the company, right?), it makes sense that they'd take fingers and tongues if anyone threatened them.

"Thorin had kept one of the fingers for himself." - Yessssssssss! I've never been so happy about a severed body part before. XD

"You've already earned it." - They're finally moving along now!
Kory Persephone chapter 32 . 4/26/2013
This was a beautiful story. I really liked the slow romance between Thorin and Bilbo. Little Frodo was adorable. Wonderful, simply wonderful.
Direwood chapter 13 . 4/25/2013
Woohoo! Go little hobbit and dwarfling! Bilbo's probably gonna have a hernia when he finds out Frodo's missing, but it's nice to see that kiddies beating the groin of a traitor. And with a Kili toy, no less! Donel sounds like he'll be a good friend so far. Frodo definitely needs some friends his own age.

"A hobbit lady with a mop's as dangerous as a dwarf with a hammer. They'll bash your brains in!" - I can totally picture this!
Direwood chapter 12 . 4/25/2013
Well, that was...brutal. But it makes sense, I guess. The Romans and Incans and ancient Chinese had much, much harsher punishements than we do today. And the dwarves aren't exactly known for being a diplomatic or peaceful race, so tongue cutting and finger chopping is probably a lawful punishment to them. Protective Thorin and company are awesome, too. Don't mess with Thorin's children!

"Bofur made me a dragon. It ate you." - I think this whole convo here is my favorite of the story so far. Very, very in-character for a small child.

"Both of them were watching with wide eyes, dwarvish noses resting on the top of the furniture." - Just like in Snow White!
Direwood chapter 11 . 4/25/2013
Dwalin's a big softie underneath that badass, tattooed exterior of his. Well, to Frodo and other people close to him, at least. That nasty dwarf lost his tongue and learned his lesson the hard way. I agree with Erebor having problems after such a recent reclamation. Stuff like that rarely happens without political and economic instability. Poor Thorin's got a long road ahead of him.

I'm thinking that pipe's a courting gift, too. Time to read on and see if Thorin will finally make a move now!
Direwood chapter 10 . 4/25/2013
Ohhhhhhhh, the fooooooood pooooooorn! I think you're trying to rival the Redwall series here. Those books always made me terribly hungry. And now I'm hungry and stuck in class. Not fair. Fili and Kili are adorable here, hugging Bilbo and acting like a bunch of kids and all. It's pretty cool how he knows their favorite foods, too. Like Bifur's and Dwalin's, which shows that he cares for all of them. Gives me lots of feels.

"Wide-eyed and puzzled, he didn't put up an ounce of resistance, too focused on getting to the food to care about it." - This just solidifies Bilbo's badass awesome control over the dwarves. Bilbo's the true power behind the throne!
Direwood chapter 9 . 4/25/2013
I adore Frodo now. To be truthful, he was never my favorite character in the films or books, but I really love his wee self here. Yet again, I love the accuracy and realism, too. Makes the story more enjoyable to read. Stuff like that goes a long way. Plus, Thorin and the rest of the company are just too cute when taking care of their sickly hobbits. Diarrhea, yuck!

"Well, that's quite gross." - Poor Gloin!
Direwood chapter 8 . 4/25/2013
Awwww, poor Frodo! Plus: "Indoor plumbing, it's gonna be big." Sorry, I couldn't help quoting Hercules there. That line's always stuck with me. And thank you for at least trying to be realistic about illnesses. So many stories just seem to throw realism out the window just for the sake of drama. I'm the elves and dwarves (considering their longevity) at least have semi-modern medical/plumbing knowledge. And ohhhhhh, Thorin's really starting to show his intentions here!

P.S. - Sorry about all the reviews, but I just feel that this story is so good that each chapter deserves a little bit of comments. I'm usually a lurker, but really, really great stories can bring the revierwer out in me. Even if the story's already complete like this one here. And I usuaully hope that it'll encourage the author to write more stories, too. XD
Direwood chapter 7 . 4/25/2013
Okay, I officially love Nori. And I love how you're focusing on the 'less handsome' dwarves, too. A lot of people just ignore them in favor of the Durins and maybe Bofur or Ori. Reading about their backgrounds and personalities will be interesting. I'd really like to know why the dwarves have a book on elvish sexual positions in their library, though. ;)

"I knew there was a reason why I didn't like politics. Everyone's always trying to kill one another. It's depressing." - I completely agree!
Direwood chapter 6 . 4/25/2013
I guess it's not surprising that they'd eventually clash. Thorin's overprotective and Bilbo's independent. It's nice to see that Bilbo's not a doormat, either. A lot of fics make him act like one and it's not very in-character.

"You're acting very Tookish, Uncle". - You're very right, Frodo.
