| abstractartist chapter 2 . 2/9/2013
I take it back... I would have cared if they'd walked away. This was haunting and beautiful... and so true to what I see Gibbs having with any woman at this point. Ziva is probably one of the only women I know that would be okay with what Gibbs can, at this time, offer.
"How the hollowness represented the hole that would never be filled in his heart. The symbolic reminder of the family he once had and lost." Isn't this what we think every time we see his home on the TV? It's a hollow shell. Whether he can allow anyone else in enough to fill it with new memories remains to be seen.
"He did not need the complication of her in his personal life. And she did not need the heartache of never being enough." Oh, I could feel how Ziva felt. I don't know if I'd have had the courage to stay in the light of day... particularly with the awkward silence and Gibbs' habitual lack of words or explanations. But Shannon always looms as a huge shadow; I don't know that it's Gibbs not being able to get past it versus he doesn't want to get past it.
"I have known who you are before I even met you. You do not scare me Gibbs." As I said above, Ziva is of the mentality that she could handle everything that he is. In their strange way they are simpatico... soul mates, despite the age difference. It's an attitude, and what life has made them.
"You can't fix me." Thank you for saying this. Really. I always believe that people can change if they want to. I'm not sure that Gibbs wants to change, and I think every women he's been with since Shannon has gone into the relationship with the attitude that he would eventually change. They would, in fact, fix him and his pain.
"Ziva was ok with that if it meant that she could have the rest." Yep. I've waited for the depiction of a women in his life that understands that she'll have a different part of him than Shannon had; that he'll never forget her, nor can she replace her. She'll have to grow into something that he doesn't even know about, yet. That's both the scary part, and the beauty of new relationships. We never have guarantees, but they have something fairly stable to start with.
That Gibbs tells Ziva that she's where she belongs... there with him, and her recognition that they may be as close as he'll ever get to saying "I love you" was terrific writing and insight. Gibbs is not a word guy. He's one of the ones that his actions speak loudest.
Going back to the first chapter, and then this one, one of the strongest parts of the writing here, imho, was the silent communication and understanding that are between these two. Words are so often not necessary. Their acceptance of each other, just as they are, is a beautiful thing. It's why, at the heart of it, I am a Gibbs/Ziva shipper for the most part. Despite the age, they get one another, their priorities are aligned, and they see the world the same way. And they are truly the protectors of it.
Of course, the sex was outstanding. To me very real after so much time and longing. It was raw, passionate, and wow... what a stud and studette! Lol. It was hot, okay! I don't need to go into details. This is the manly guy I prefer to see, frankly. Call me a sexist, but I like my guys knowing what they want, and a woman who has no problem with it and gives it back in fair measure. ;)
It is amazing how much you managed to convey in just two chapters. Thanks for making my night after a very long day of work such a good one. :)

How in the hell did I miss this?! OMG... and what a great treat to find! I LOVE how this is shaping up. Of course Ray was sort of slimy and slick... and then there were those ears. But really... standing her up on New Years? Boo. Thank goodness he was truly an idiot and lost her.
As for this lovely story, I was at turns grinning like an idiot, laughing or inevitably thinking how clearly I saw this playing this out. I think the responses from them were so true to character. I don't for a second think that if Ziva threw herself at him that Gibbs could push her away if he wasn't in his 'papa' role.
"Rule Twelve be damned. Never date a coworker. He had to have a rule for fucking one over a workbench." Wow! This is a Gibbs I'd like to see! And I actually do see him thinking this. But I also howled... it was so great! Such a guy!
"A very pleasant surprise. He couldn't help but stare in dumbfounded amazement." His reaction to Ziva's overtly seductive actions made me smile. Seriously, if this played out on the show, I can see his astonishment, and maybe even a bit of pride. He is older, and that would be quite a coup. ;)
"I don't know, you think you could take me?" "You could take that to the vault."
My money is on Ziva... definitely. Whether it's the vault, or the bank.
"With a flick of the wrist, he set the lock on the front door." I've been waiting for this move FOREVER! Does he not know what business he's in, and how dangerous the world is, and how many enemies he has! But if he wants privacy for Ziva, I'm cool with this. ;)
And then the Gibbs we all know and love reared his head. He wants her to stay the night, but no nookie. They need to 'sleep' on this, and see how they feel in the morning. I only counted one glass of champagne... just sayin'...
This is very true to form for Gibbs, though, and I'm anxiously and furiously writing this so I can go to chapter 2! At this point, if they do decide to walk away and save the potential upheaval to the team, I'll be okay with it. I think this is just such an outstanding play on humans and their reactions to suppressed attraction, emotional and important (holiday) moments, and extreme disappointment and hurt from someone that is supposed to be putting them first. But that passion was very real between them... would be hard for me to walk away from.
I, though, am a pretty good rule breaker. Lets see if these two will be.
Still am astonished that I missed this!

Loved this - you nailed both their characters and voices, and loved the realistic angst and honesty in what they could each give the other and how they both knew it wouldn't be easy from now on. Beautifully written.

Enjoyed immensely. I really liked your portrayal of Gibbs' and Ziva's feelings. And how you ended by having them commit to each other but not as a married couple. Thanks for writing Zibbs.
| mmkbrook chapter 2 . 1/1/2013
Yes! The way it should have been after Ziva and Gibbs drove away from the airport together. Of course it wasn't New Years. Must say this was hot, and an extremely good prognosis for future Zibbs stories. You do have an excellent basis for a followup should you choose to write one. I always encourage Zibbs writers for more stories.

Thank goodness there is another chapter. Couldn't stand that jerk CIA-Ray even before he killed that woman. Love the ever noble Gibbs but it is rated M.
