Reviews for Just An Unorthodox Thief |

![]() ![]() ![]() Everything I thought I was missing in the last chapter was here. That was the perfect "end". Look at some people thinking about EMIYA's reaction to all of this, I think he would have been happy because Arturia is happy and just that, he too would find the whole situation funny, less clear what part of what happened to Rin. Even so in the end even Rin managed to have a happy ending here. |
![]() ![]() ![]() God four years of awesome adventure with lupin I hope I get to see more of him because the way you write him it's like I'm watching the show god I miss the show it was so funny and amusing till next time Ciao |
![]() ![]() ![]() I'm not sure if I mentioned this after Riko's letter, but that's not how regnal numbers work. Riko isn't Riko Lupin the Fourth, and Aria Holmes isn't Aria Holmes the Fourth. They're just Riko Lupin and Aria Holmes, unless there were three others with the names Riko Lupin and Aria Holmes before them. |
![]() ![]() ![]() To think I discovered this fic earlier this year... it really has been one wild ride after another reading this beautifully written piece of fanfiction. Hey there, TIM, Spiceracksargent001 here, and I just gotta say, outstanding work on this thing. Now, I will just say that, I have some knowledge of Fate, having been properly introduced to the series by Fate/Zero, and due to being a self-admitted Gundam otaku, I tend to research anything that can catch my interest as best as possible; I'd never even heard of Lupin III prior to reading this fic, so thank you for creating such a good first impression of the series for me. Let's kick this review off with the man himself: When I first read the first chapter and was formally introduced to the Thief called Lupin, I was immediately of the impression that this guy is gonna take none of this shit seriously and will the source of many hi-jinks. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Assassin actually took the Fourth Heaven's Feel quite seriously in his own way, but still took time out of the war to go out and have fun. While I, admittedly, still need to finish Fate/Zero proper, seeing Kirei not turn into a crazy, unhinged, "for-the-evuls" bastard courtesy of Prickgamesh (I regret nothing!), the rescue of Sakura, and the downright slaughter of Zouken were all events I downright cheered at, and as Lupin took the role of the Villain Protagonist, as it were, I really began to wonder just how was he turning this supposedly sacred tournament between Magi competing for an omnipotent wish-granter into his own, brilliantly elaborate heist for the very prize that laid in wait at the end of the War. The more involved he became, the more treasures he stole, the more invested I became in seeing this story through to the end. Job well done, Arsene Lupin III, and may the criminal underworld tremble as you fully unleash your chaos anew upon their unsuspecting souls. Next up: Zenigata. Lupin III's eternal rival, it seems, and if his introduction had made any indication in my mind: age is never gonna slow that man down whenever Lupin III is involved. I gotta say, making him one of the focal points of this story was a good move; it gave the perspective of an outsider looking in on the secret society of Magus and of the hidden tournaments they've been hosting under everyone's noses for over 200 years now. Even with Lupin now powered up as a Heroic Spirit, Zenigata is still able to keep up with the thief, and was even able to get the drop on Lupin a few times as well, something that certainly impressed me whenever it happened, and made me laugh to learn that he keeps a pair of handcuffs under his pillow for when Lupin sneaks into his room while he's sleeping. I like the whole friendly rivals thing Zenigata and Lupin have going on, and how they both hate it when people disrespect the other and will actively defend their rival whenever it happens. Even a full 12 years after the Grail War, Zenigata's still chasing after Lupin, and doing a pretty good job at keeping on the thief's trail if how the epilogue's heist ended was any indication. If the Heroic Spirit Lupin III were to appear in a Fate/Apocrypha fanfic, I would not be surprised in the least to see the two as either opposing Assassins, as Assassin and Rider for the same faction, or undergoing the same dynamic they have in this fic. Good luck, Inspector Zenigata. With your knowledge of how Lupin operates, you're bound to get him for good eventually. Next up... Jigen. Rest in peace, dude. While his role in this story was relatively minor, the guy still made his impact. I mean, how many other humans can say they participated in an engagement against the literal King of Heroes, and not only won, but were the one to strike the killing blow? Hooray for Chekhov's Sniper Rifle indeed, TV Tropes. I nearly came to tears when Jigen died they way he did, reminiscing about his life with his best friend, all the while enjoying one last smoke as he bled out from a gunshot wound. Hey Jigen, when you get to the Throne, tell 'em to get ready, 'cause when Arturia and Lupin get back, probably with Kirei and/or Zenigata in tow, things are gonna get real lively, real fast. Now for Kirei. In canon, Gilgamesh turns the otherwise emotionless, twisted priest into an demented being that relished in bringing others nothing but pain and misery. Here, though, Lupin saw through Kirei the instant they'd met, and throughout the course of the story, gave Kirei subtle nudges that helped the man break out of that shell and find a line of work that brought him genuine happiness by punishing the wicked, not as an Executioner of the Holy Church, but as a member of Lupin III's merry band of thieves. Not much to say about him, admittedly, but I enjoyed seeing his development over the course of the story. Best of luck, Kirei Kotomine, and may all who prey on the weak beware the divine retribution you deliver as Lupin robs 'em blind. And last, but certainly not least, the Servant of the Sword herself: King Arthur Pendragon of Camelot. Words cannot do justice to just how much the King of Knights changes just because one of the summoned Servants wasn't the one meant to be summoned. In canon, Arturia never really makes peace with how her reign ended, and it kinda made me feel bad for her. Here though, Lupin helps Arturia break out of her shell in much the same way he does for Kirei, but in a way that allows her to develop a similar sense of rivalry with the self-proclaimed Emperor of Thieves to what the man himself has with Zenigata. Also, the moment immediately after she'd fully broken off the shackles of her past was downright adorable with how she became Saber Lily in the ending moments of her hallucination. Then the ultimate test of her newfound character: Angra Mainyu. The entire time she was going through that trial, I was just wondering how the new Saber would react, and to see her not only stab Angra clean through the chest, but to then obliterate the Grail with Excalibur's full power was incredibly satisfying to read. Even 12 years later, her own chasing of Lupin III continues, and her resolve is as great as Lupin's original rival if that whammy of a curse Angra gave her is as effective against Arthur-chan as age is against Zenigata. Hats' off to you, oh fair and radiant King of Knights, and best of luck in your quest to finally capture and defeat Lupin III. All in all, this story was one wild ride after the other, and I enjoyed every second of it. Amazing work, TIM, and I look forward to your next project. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Hmm...curious since you had Kaito Kid from Cased Closed lol the potential branches this could take are honestly amazing...Zelretch could find a whole new set of timelines through this. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Everything about this story was amazing. The portrayal of characters, the action sequences, and the insertion of certain characters were all extremely well done. You made Kirei interesting, you had so many stories in it, and even continued onto part 4 with this world constantly including kaito kid. Thank you so much for the enjoyable and fantastic read. |
![]() ![]() ![]() i love this final chapter. i really hope someone continues where you stopped |
![]() ![]() ![]() A truly fun adventure from start to finish. One of the best crossovers on the site and kudos for completing the story. Looking forward to whatever comes next after this story. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ...It has truly been a wild, wonderful ride, and I have but one complaint: we didn't get to see Counter Guardian EMIYA's reaction to the drastically altered timeline. Ah well, all I can do is beg for an omake. *Prostrates self in dogeza* Omake, pwease? *Puppy eyes* |
![]() ![]() ![]() Huh, now that was a great epilogue. Normally, I don't like "And the Adventure Continues" type of endings, but you've somehow managed to make it fulfilling and awesome at the same time. It seems to fit a Lupin III story in so many ways that I can't even begin to describe it. I also really like the endings you've written for the characters. It feels like the logical end result of all the character development they've gone through. And then there's Kay. An adorable Welsh Corgi is always a welcome addition to any story. :) I just have one question that's been scratching at me though: my yuri senses tingled at the interactions between Riko and Caren. Do they have any romantic notions between them? Anyways, I'm kinda sad that this is the end and that there will be no more. No sequels or even spin-offs, but that's okay. It's been a great ride you've taken us all on. Thank you and sayonara. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Damn, that was long crazy ride. Favorite part, as usual, was Rin's suffering. |
![]() ![]() ![]() It's been a pleasure to read this story. As someone who's been with it from the early days, it is a little sad to see it end. Congratulations, this story was truly awesome! |
![]() ![]() ![]() I want to say that this has been an amazing ride. I began reading this story April 9, 2015. Sorry I didn't find you at Day 1. I found this to be the best story of either series I've had the pleasure of reading. I will mention the fact that technically Italy should have already happened in the Lupin timeline but whatever. Thank You though and hopefully you'll be able to make another story as great as this one. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Thank God it ended, I was afraid it was going to get much worse. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Very fitting. I'm glad you also won't be doing sequels/prequels/spin-offs. I only think those are good ideas when there is a story worth telling and/or needs to be told. I hope to see more stuff like this from you than that... thing... called Fate/Stay Away. |
