|Reviews for The Raven's Blade I: A distant Light|
| tygrislily chapter 1 . 1/15
Just finished this over on archive of our own. Just blown away by the sheer awesomeness of this story. Thank you for crafting it.

Oh, and one more thing, I'm also not a huge fan of the stuff you shoved into the last few chapters. Prophecies can only go so far before it breaks my sense of disbelief, which the swords fucking do for me. I think it's because of how fucking intricate you have said prophecy be. Another thing is you're selling up the arcane effects too much in my opinion. You yourself mention that this type of spellsmithing is rare, which if of fucking course why we see it so much now. On top of this, the motif you've tried to set up is now trying to beat over my head. I get it already, ravens, raven, Kili is associated with them. I'm only three chapters from finishing, but I'm just getting tired of this.
| Imma Potato chapter 26 . 12/19/2013
Selling up an enemy's threat ONLY WORKS when I don't know the fucking outcome. Since you've reliably reused every major set piece in the books, I'm not inclined to feel worry or tenseness from these battles. There's no way in Hell you'd kill Aragorn. Actually, you've basically refused to kill any of the named "good" characters now that I think about it. Because of that, I'm inclined to think that they will all live throughout this fic.

I liked this story a lot.

Kili is best Xth walker ever!

Absolutely brilliant story. Your storytelling is captivating and exciting: you really have a gift. When I visited your profile, I couldn't believe that you weren't a native English speaker. Believe me, the number of badly-written fics I've read which are written by native speakers... And I can't say I'm entirely innocent of that myself.
I think you really captured the sense of Tolkein here. I loved the Dwarven culture you created as well as the embellishments you made to the other cultures around. I particularly liked the way you dealt with the Haradim and Easterling leaders: I liked that you made them competent and worth respect, even while they should be fought as enemies. I don't normally read fics about Boromir: I didn't really like him in the books or film. However, I may have to change that now, due to my great enjoyment of this fic. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series!
Thank you very much for writing and completing. I have really enjoyed reading this.

Well, I have finished the first part of your magnum opus, and I'm looking forward to the rest. I really enjoyed your characterization of Boromir, and I'm glad you didn't spend too long retreading The Lord of the Rings. I also thought your OCs were believable and well-drawn, which is very impressive. I'm am looking forward to reading part 2 when I get a chance!

Wow. Kinda forgot to review, have you noticed?
I've been reading over on AO3, but I prefer commenting on here because I have an account.
Soo... Kili and Boromir's relationship is probably my favorite thing about your story. In a small, kind've painful way, I see Boromir has a mantle for Fili, in the sense that Kili does everything he can to protect him.
And some chapters way back, Kili said to Faramir and Boromir that no brother should have to bury his brother, and I think my heart just about fell out of my chest, it was so touching.
I must warn you; it's taken me daaaays to get this far in the story, and I'm almost done. I'll jump right into the second part, and will probably be just as bad at reviewing!
But it's only because I'm too enthralled reading to stop and collect some thoughts!
| uno mega chapter 12 . 8/13/2013
Oh shoot, I've totally been forgetting to review.
So...I made the foolhardy decision to start your series at 11:45 at night. It's 1 in the morning and I'll have to stop now because my eyes are drooping as I type.
I am so conflicted! Most fics I read that are canon compliant with Thorin's death and Dain's succession make me dislike Dain. I dislike Dain so much more here because he's a jerk.
And I'm partly heartbroken that so many of Thorin's company would not band behind Kili, even to the point that Gimli (whom I have always headcanoned as hero worshipping Fili and Kili) is suspicious and untrusting of Kili!
But this is so well written I can't wait for morning so I can continue reading!
| Beloved Daughter chapter 29 . 7/17/2013
Really cool story! Poor Kili though. I love the person he has become though because of all his trials as you depicted him. The one thing that I was curious about is what Gimli thought of everything. Maybe I missed it but he didn't seem to come with Aragon to Minas Tirith and encounter his dwarven kin.
I can't wait to start reading the next story! Thanks for writing and posting.

Great story. I wonder if Baramir's lifespan is going to be expanded or if Kili's too old for it to matter.

Rereading odd chapters (as I do) I noticed that you repeat this sentences 'There are only three others of the same make' and thought I'd mention it.
| MomoftheShire chapter 29 . 5/15/2013
I thoroughly enjoyed this! The twists from the original tale(s) felt true to the spirit in which they were written. But letting Boromir and Kili get more story satisfies me greatly. Two characters cut off WAY before their stories should have ended, in my opinion. Blending the movieverse and bookverse worked well too, bringing back fond memories while I was always wondering how, when you changed the original plot, you were going to get the essential developments to happen! Well done! I will definitely be following your work.

HOLY MACKERAL! This is THE most epic fanfic I've read in my life and I have read millions! God bless you for this!

Really brilliant and such a good idea and so well written and I loved the ending, and how Boromir and Kili (two characters who should have died) helped each other, and the dragon mark they and Faramir now wear, and I'm going to read the next one now bye.
