|Reviews for Mello and the Thousand Paper Cranes|
| AngelsAndShadows chapter 1 . 3/5/2013
I really, really love this story. It made me both insanely sad and really happy. I had to keep myself from crying.
While reading, I randomly thought of Near. Thinking about if someone would make him a thousand paper cranes. Then, I thought of this. So basically, Near is working on the Kira case when he receives a package with a letter in it. I don't know who exactly it's from, but it is from a childhood friend he hasn't heard from for years.
It's written in the form of a poem/letter.
You've always told me wishes were stupid.
That a waste of breath could never turn to reality.
You'd always disapprove of my love of ghosts and supernatural.
The kira case made me worry.
One wrong move, you're dead.
So I tried wishing upon stars for your safety.
But then I remembered how ridiculous you had claimed it.
But I kept going.
I got bored
Of trying to find a shooting star.
So I gave up on that.
But I still worried.
Insomnia from thoughts
Kept me up at night.
I'd just sit in bed and fidget around
But you said to think without action is worthless.
So one night,
I decided to do something about it.
I walked up to my study
And stayed up all night
And wishing upon
So maybe there could be a chance.
So Near, I hope you know,
That I care enough
To spend my nights
To make you
A thousand paper cranes.

I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved this story. It was SO CUTE, and it made me all warm and fuzzy inside. I loved Mello's focus and resolve through the whole paper crane making process and the ending scene was just amazing!
