![]() ![]() ![]() I've just had to revisit my favorite fanfic story. Also the song by Queen one year of love perfect description of this chapter |
![]() ![]() Oh my fucking God. This is so uniquely intriguing and the way you are playing with & seaming it together is fan-fucking-tastic. I Love this story. |
![]() ![]() Damn. I'm hooked on this & I'm a guy. Vegeta is one of my favorite characters but I don't dive much into the romantic and slices of life aspects of the series or the fanfictions. I like the "what if this person lived/transformed early/wasn't evil or went evil here" type of tales. But this story is pretty fucking awesome. |
![]() ![]() ![]() This story has given me life these past days. I have no true words to express the amalgam of thoughts and feelings that I have right now. Eventually. I'll be able to come up with something coherent after digesting this masterpiece of yours that I've just read. I am so glad I stumbled upon this fic! |
![]() ![]() ![]() I just finished reading this epically, massive story of yours and wow! It wasn't what I was looking for at the time I started it, but I quickly became hooked. It's incredible the amount of time and effort and thought that went into this. I can't tell you how much I'm impressed by it! The action sequences were amazing, character development was on point, and the lemons... *chef's kiss* You have some serious talent! I look forward to reading more from you! |
![]() ![]() ![]() I'm so happy we had a happy ending! There were times where I wasn't sure that was going to happen. After reading your author's note, it looked like you weren't so sure either, lol! The fact that you took the traditional fanfiction write-as-you-post approach makes it all the more impressive that you produced something so cohesive and complex. All the loose ends were addressed, and any plot holes (so far as I can tell) were avoided. The twins yet again give us a sobering reminder of the differences that can be prevalent on different timelines. On this time line, Bra never existed. On all of the others, as much as I'm guessing given the unorthodox way Vegeta and Bulma got back together, their children Bardock and Bonnie don't exist any where else. So we finally have our answer as to who stole Dende from Bulma's timeline. I wonder what Gero wished for with the Dragon Balls? Not that I really WANT to know... It made sense that Trunks was asked to join the Time Patrol; he seems cut out for it, after all. :D I was kind of surprised that 18 had a crush on Trunks! Good luck starting something with Trunks now, 18. Then again...I think of how Vegeta got Bulma's boyfriend killed and then terrorized her on Namek, so you never know. I was REALLY surprised to hear Kaibito admitted had had a crush on 18. Well...maybe. I like how you pointed out his loss of objectivity after the fusion, thus calling into question his ability to levy impartial judgement. It would make sense then that he'd step down from the position. Everything was wrapped up, and the ending was heartwarming, sweet, and very real. I'm so glad you managed to give us a happy ending after all the nail-biting! Thank you for writing this excellent story! |
![]() ![]() ![]() I was overjoyed that Vegeta made it back home, minutes after Bulma read the letter! At the same time, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. After reading the happy reunion and seeing how much there was left in the chapter, I was a little afraid that something bad could happen yet. It can be really difficult to know where it's best to break chapters. The end of chapter 43 made for a fantastic cliff-hanger. I wonder though if it wouldn't have been better to just put their reunion at the end of that chapter, ending with Vegeta's words: "I'm home!" It was the climax, the triumphant end to all their trials, so it would have been a good place for it. It would have lengthened an already long chapter, yes, but the scene is so short it wouldn't have added much more. All the lightness and general silliness that quickly followed that scene in chapter 44 (Goku and Vegeta brawling again, the Elder Kai planting his kiss on Bulma) felt like a lot after Vegeta JUST got home. Everything after the first page break would have been a good beginning to this chapter, because it was wholly dedicated to wrapping everything up and winding down after all the drama. I enjoyed the intimacy they shared, and how they at last opened up to each other about what they need. The very end was especially sweet and humorous after all the heavy events. There is still one more chapter, so I'm holding my breath a bit, but here's hoping to a happy ending! |
![]() ![]() ![]() This was a terrifying and tragic end in an alternate universe. The worst things imaginable, the terrible fate they had fought so hard against through the entire story, has come to pass. They're reunited for but an instant and are denied even being able to touch each other. Vegeta is killed, and Bulma is lobotomized. Only the italics keyed me in that this does not HAVE to come to pass. So, the warning note that Vegeta read in the last chapter - he really DID die. So, after having read Bulma's proposed solution to give Vegeta a warning, I realized I did indeed understand how the N clippers worked. However, I just couldn't wrap my head around the notion of collapsing universes and just what it entails. After reading this chapter, it's best desribed as "A Do-over" - something the character Whis from Dragon Ball Super described. I know this is pre-DB Super, but the concept sounds identical: time is rewound in such a way as though the events in question never came to pass at all. There are no divergent timelines. I saw the similarities in the heated conversation Bulma has with the Kai as compared to that in a previous chapter. They're nearly identical, so I paid extra attention to the part where Bulma was described as floating two inches outside her own body. It could have just been for the dramatic effect of describing her intense anger, but I do wonder if there was some sort of temporal displacement occurring at that moment. Does this mark the moment where time was rewound? Now we know HOW the warning letter made it to the time machine, even though it's apparent that our Bulma and Trunks didn't plan for things to play out this way. They gave the warning to the "wrong" Vegeta, the one that decided to stay with his family! What a chilling revelation from that letter. By creating it, Bulma did indeed create a paradox. In the last chapter, in an alternate timeline, he ceased to exist when he made that jump. But, he could either cease to be or be killed by the Kai. No matter what he's destined for destruction...or stay stranded here. The notion of the causality loop following personal histories makes so much sense. Bulma's and Trunk's attempts to help have in fact painted him into corner. Like he said, if he were to change the time and/or place he returns to them, he will have negated their need to write this warning in the first place - a paradox. I was blown away by the brilliance of forging the letter! This would get the message across to Vegeta (who recognizes her handwriting) while nonetheless having no ties to the Bulma he's trying to get back to. No personal history involved no paradox! Genius! Two Bulmas are better than one (Even though Vegeta thought of this one, lol)! |
![]() ![]() ![]() This was a jarring, exciting way to begin the chapter. Bravo! I had to get my bearings for a sec before I realized what was going on! :D So this is the fellow that's going to get back home. I immediately did a double take when I read that first italicized part, then the next paragraph was phrased exactly the same way! Before I got to the end of the chapter with the AN's, I took this to mean two divergent timelines. Very clever! I sucked my breath in when he discovered the N clipper already installed. Is he in a time loop? I recalled what Cowboy Trunks said...something about one of the Vegetas trying to fix something with the N-clippers and all but disappeared. That couldn't have been OUR Vegeta, could it have? When Vegeta found himself wondering how his family was doing and considering going back to check in, I was like "stick to the plan!" I guess it was good that he did go (maybe?) because if he hadn't Bulma wouldn't have stopped him from making that final jump. But just what happened to him? He said he would have been killed, but was he? Or did he cease to exist because his universe collapsed? Same thing? But poor Vegeta! Now what is he going to do? Someone (likely Bulma) was trying to "help" him, and in so doing would either kill him or strand him. At any rate, it sadly looks like he can't get back to our Bulma! I was gratified to find that I had been following and figuring things out before I reached the AN's at the end of this chapter. That said, I didn't follow everything. I was getting a little lost as to how many N-clippers there were, and which numbers corresponded to which universes. Also, not until I reached the AN's did I understand why Vegeta was UN-installing the NC-11 clipper.B ut, your AN explained everything: He removed it in that scene to prevent Bulma and himself from finding it and, avoiding them thinking they needed to "fix" something and thus interfere in a way that would prevent him from installing it in the first place. It's certainly getting more and more difficult to keep track of everything. This was an intense, mind-bending chapter and a real challenge to comprehend! Vegeta's reaction at the end was absolutely heart breaking. How is this all going to end? I'm at the edge of my seat. Thank you for writing! |
![]() ![]() ![]() In the last chapter I was a little confused as to why Vegeta set the time machine for two years later than when Cowboy Trunks told him that he and Bulma left Bra. I was even more confused when he met Bulma and she was far older than the mere two years she would have been when she and Trunks took off to look for him. I was thinking that his Bulma and Trunks returned to Bra shortly after they left her, but I had mistakenly thought the N-clippers had done their thing and collapsed that universe already, making Bulma and Trunks their original, un-aged self at this point in time. I realized that I was starting to confuse myself as to how the N-clippers worked: they're supposed to collapse timelines of related universes, not the destination that the time traveler arrives at and stays (...I think). NOW I get it (again - I think): Cowboy Trunks and Bulma returned to Bra like they said they would, but they were waiting for Vegeta to return close on their heels. They were waiting on him to get there and use HIS N-clippers that would prevent new timelines. So, from Bra's perspective Bulma and Trunks took off in the time machine to find Vegeta, then returned shortly after having aged roughly 15 years. Then, Bulma and Trunks have been waiting for another 2 years in that universe until Vegeta finally showed up. Lol, no wonder Bulma's mad! He was so late! Plus, he's seeing her old which she was very much trying to avoid. It's creepy to think this timeline will collapse when he leaves, and Bulma's even aware of it. Well I was happy to see them reunited. And all that time Vegeta was wringing his hands over cracking after 15 years and "cheating" on Bulma, when she "cheated" on him numerous times and soon after she started her time traveling. LOL. I was relieved that Bulma was understanding. And truly, Vegeta was futilely trying get back to them before finally accepting that he couldn't and accepting a new life with the other Bulma, only for Trunks to give him a way but too late. Again, I just have to mention how well you write emotion: "Inside his head a wordless howl of regret and sorrow filled the space that thoughts had fled, though he made no sound." It was such a painful thing to read the part where he lied to Bra that he's not "her" father. He was, and he had been thinking of her so much. Now here he is, CHOOSING to relinquish ownership of his family to a version of himself that hasn't arrived yet. I enjoyed the comic relief of Vegeta going into ultra-dad, "not-my-daughter" mode. Then Bulma screaming "No Super Saiyans in the house! Get out!" LOL. I chuckled when Bra surprisingly went Super, and Vegeta's brain was struggling to process which of the news was more shocking: "Super Saiyan? Fiance? Super Saiyan?" LOL! This whole scene provided a nice, light interlude and space to breathe before plunging back into the heavy stuff. Best of all, he got to train with his Super Saiyan daughter. The end of this chapter had me begging the question: Just where is he going now? Thank you for writing! |
![]() ![]() ![]() It's really fitting that Vegeta's "thinking place" is the void left by Buu. Not only because it's just dark nothingness, but because this was where Vegeta went to return home from his escapade defeating Cell only to find this. This was where he condemned himself to wander for the next 15 years. I enjoyed how this chapter examined the previous chapters from Vegeta's perspective. It allowed us to better see what he was struggling with and what ultimately led to his decision to try to make it back to our Bulma. On a side note, it was gratifying to read that Vegeta did take it upon himself to kill Frieza at some point. The line about him "literally stepping into the boots of the cold hearted warrior he'd once been" was very cool, btw. I've been wondering for some time now: Who took Dende from Bulma's timeline? Vegeta, or one of the Time Patrol Trunks? Was it even one of the Bulma's? And to what end? I had meant to bring this up in my last review and forgot, and now the subject was brought up again in this chapter. I'm wondering if Dende's disappearance indeed is the result of a decision our Vegeta makes at some point in the future. If it is, he obviously doesn't know about it yet. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I loved the observation Trunks made of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, how a lot of what happens there is because you bring it into the chamber with you. That was some profound stuff, and I think very true of our own reality. Ha ha, I liked how our Trunks got a scar like Cowboy Trunks (only on the opposite cheek) because he snuck up on Vegeta in his sleep. :D Aside from the foreboding letter Vegeta left, we now know that our Vegeta's universe must have collapsed. We were briefed on this ultimately happening after he spoke with Time Patrol Trunks, and then the Supreme Kai said "his Bulma and Trunks" disappeared. Weren't the first Bulma and Trunks that were on the Kai's planet VEGETA'S Bulma and Trunks? It was as though Vegeta died, certainly with the way Bulma reacted to the letter. While he's not technically dead, that version of him and a number of other would have been essentially absorbed into a single entity. The person that was shaped by his experiences during his time travel in other universes - including his experiences with our Bulma - was erased. It would be Vegeta, but with no recollection of these other lives in other universes. Yes, in a sense our Vegeta is indeed gone. :( Or at least, that's what it sounds like. Where will the story go from here? |
![]() ![]() ![]() I laughed about Vegeta stealing the cake and then tempting Bulma into having some. That was such a sweet, sad, surreal moment when Bulma ran into her mother. What Bunny said about Vegeta not being able to stay away from Bulma could have been some foreshadowing...or maybe it's wishful thinking. At any rate I love the double meanings you weave in! I gasped when Bulma ran into the younger Vegeta. There were already some differences in this timeline - I was worried this could affect things profoundly! I started wondering if the Nexus universe - the original universe that all other universes would collapse into if it were to ever happen - was in fact the universe where the Androids kill the Z fighters. I would thinks so, because it was in that universe that Bulma is prompted to create a time machine and start this whole process. Not a happy universe, certainly... |
![]() ![]() ![]() OMG I busted out laughing after that slow, sexually charged lead-in and then 18 yells at them to get a room! XD. I laughed even more when Vegeta's pillow-missile met its target in an explosion of feathers. I just love how you balance comic relief with the gravitas of this story! And boy the humor is needed. Oh my god the way you illustrated how his tender touches escalated into something desperate, as if trying to hold onto something that would dissipate into smoke at any second. Oh god I feel for Bulma, but also for Vegeta and his rejection. After that painful exchange in the bedroom...when Vegeta lifted the pillow off his head and simply repeated what she wanted him to say, as if on command: "Goodbye Bulma"...ow. OUCH. I felt that. You're the puppetmaster of emotion, and I mean that as the highest compliment. That dream about baby Trunks was frighteningly intense. My god, you write dreams SO well! You capture the overall feeling that a dream conveys, whether it's hope, wishful thinking, anxiety, or abject fear. I forgot to touch upon Vegeta's Bulma back in chapter 36. There was just so much information going on. It was anguishing to hear how much he wanted to see her, the wife he left behind 15 years ago to embark on this time-traveling foray. Now, she's so much older, and keeping him at arm's length. That was hard to read. Vegeta's wearing the gloves at last, along with his old boots. He definitely does cut the picture of a younger, more untrustworthy Vegeta with those on. Things seemed to be playing out as they should, in spite of Trunks leaving for the past younger than he did in the original timeline. But now things are beginning to diverge when Trunks goes to train with Goku as Bulma suggested. What does this mean? Looking forward to seeing what happens next! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Oh my god I could barely handle the angst. This was all just too much. All this time one of the Time Patrollers was his own son. And now, now Trunks has presented with him a way back home. But is it too late? Vegeta is in so deep now. I idly thought it was a good thing that Bulma wasn't awake to hear him say that he'd stay, because it looks like he may have to go back on his word after all. Wow. WOW. I've read many angsty things, but I've never been wrapped up in a single one of them the way I'm wrapped up in your story. And oh wow; that scar on Cowboy Trunk's faces was inflicted by Vegeta himself. He did that to his own son and didn't even know it. This is just too much. And wow - this revelation that Vegeta's escapade was what created the Time Patrol. Indeed, it's what sent his own family on this fool's errand to retrieve him and leave a 17 year old Bra alone. Hell, OUR Bulma is about to embark on the same futile adventure right now in an effort to get her own son back! Vegeta's wife and son anguished over his disappearance to the point that they followed him, and then created the same mistakes he did. Holy crap. And what Trunks said about how the N-clippers worked. Wow, I had a feeling. I don't remember how I called it exactly in my previous review, but I thought as much: Their souls will collapse back into the universe made by the jump. They'll simply be home again, in their own bodies, with no recollection of their experiences in alternate realities. Save, possibly, for the exception of the odd dream. What will happen when Vegeta and young Bulma go their separate ways, if they do? Will her reality continue to exist for her? She has the N-clippers for her timeline, after all. Or, will her soul collapse onto the nexus timeline - whichever one that is? The N-clippers will kick in when Vegeta travels to his own time line. Is HIS timeline the Nexus timeline? Will she be his Bulma again, back in the body of the older Bulma he married, but with no recollection of her time on this alternate reality? What of her pregnancy? And OH CRAP. I knew it. The others were listening in, listening in on Vegeta going back on his word. That damn comm link! Can't blame Vegeta for destroying those things in his rage. I'm grateful Bulma didn't hear him say those words to her only for him to take them back. Sure she hoped he'd stay, but all along she expected him to leave. To have her defeatist expectations realized...our poor Bulma...wow. There are SO many twists and turns in this story, there is no way to know for sure what's going to happen next. I haven't even finished this fic, but I'm blown away by the thought and care that went into weaving this very complex story. It is truly unique. I honest to god can't say with certainty how this will end. What the HELL is going to happen next?! Thank you for writing! |
