Just want to say I love this fic so much! I've been thinking about it recently, and I had to come back on ffn to find it and read it again. Thank you

So cute! Loved it!
Guest chapter 1 . 5/20/2022
Will for William, and Joyce for Joyce, as in William Joyce, the author of the Guardians of Childhood series, aka the original version of the Guardians. I loved this by the way!

Either stranger things, which is unlikely or because those are two of the most Core tennents of Christianity
Valerie Rose Daniel chapter 1 . 4/5/2021
I like your one shot. I think your ideas would've made a really good movie 2 if they ever went with it.
Kim chapter 1 . 11/26/2020
I think the reason religion was never brought in is because the "belief" theme here is about a different kind of "belief". Belief in yourself. Belief in doing what's right. Belief in the "magic of childhood". Not the faith and devotion of religion.
While the story was well-written and thoughtout, I find the mixing of religion into it... tasteless and tacky. It kinda ruined it for me.

There's a difference here in that the moon never looks for recognition, devotion or followers. I DO see the parallels, but I have to nope out of that one.

Also... Jack's portrayal here seems kinda weird? He lacks that certain "spark" which makes him the guardian of fun. He seems a bit too mysterious and "docile"(?).

I'm not saying I hate religion or your story... I'm just saying I think it ruins the original story... which might come off as just as bad now that I think about it.
I'm sorry for leaving a review just to complain. I'm a bit of an asshole from time to time. I hope you'll have a great day despite this. (I know I probably shouldn't post it, but as I said earlier: I'm an asshole.)
Nadbeta chapter 1 . 8/17/2020
I absolutely loved this! I always wondered religion with this too. I wanted to add it to my fanfics but I was afraid to offend people with different beliefs. This made me really happy to see!
Ariyah chapter 1 . 7/28/2020
I call dibs on cookie (points)! I know exactly where they came from. (Any chance Katherine comes from the same /family/ of thought?)

I'm surprised to find someone who's thought of the Guardians as angels. I've considered it, though not as a reflection of my beliefs on the nature of real angels. (I don't really want to get into it in a review, so back to your story.)

I really like what you've done with this story as a whole. I loved seeing Joyce welcome this stranger in (hm, entertaining angels unaware? just thought of that now) and mother him and borderline adopt him just as she accepts his not-quite-human-ness. You also did a good job with balancing her ignorance of Jack Frost's identity with the reader's knowledge of all this. It resulted in lots of smiles and a back-and-forth of, "Oh, poor Joyce... no, poor Jack... oh man, this is playing out well."
The inclusion of Will was something I really appreciated, giving backdrop to why he's no longer around, the impact he had on his family, and how that translates into the Jamie we know and love from the movie.

I have a few small nitpicky things like a couple misspelled words and wondering why Jamie would lie about Jack being part of their church's pageant (either Joyce would notice him missing or wonder why no one else noticed the lanky shepherd keeping out of everybody's way), why Jack hid his hair when it could well have been dyed, and why Jack would be puzzled about a pre-meal prayer if he's an angel.

But I still quite enjoyed this story. Thanks for writing it!

This is one of those incredibly rare and beautifully written gems just waiting to be unburied under the dirt of a fandom. Everything about this story just touched me. I loved seeing the incorporation of religion in this story too. The concepts of believing in the unseen and all of those things... In such an odd way this story was constantly giving me that sense of supernatural wonder. The purity and ease and light felt when your a child. And the fact that you were able to capture that bewildering and nolstolgic feeling in this tale is just aweing. Also, the fact that you named the father and mother after William Joyce... good lord, that really added to the emotional value (especially because loss is something that I believe inspired the series in some ways). I've always loved and wanted to see more of the human characters in the movie. I've also had my own curiosities about the Bennett family (especially because I love the headcanon of them being biologically related to Jack through his sister), so reading this story and watching it expand on Jamie and Sophie's life through their mother's eyes of all people was really wonderful and quite frankly, breathtaking. It wasn't the perspective I was expecting to read from and it was so interesting watching her get closer and closer to believing that Jack Frost was real by the end.

Thank you so much for sharing this story. It brought tears to my eyes so many times while reading it, bringing back a lot of memeories from when I was a kid. It made my day, 100%. You are an incredibly gifted writer, and I hope you continue to keep sharing it with people. God bless :)

Wow this was fantastic! I have never seen a religious take on it either, but it totally worked! I just love the idea that the mom eventually sees him too because the kids believe in him so strongly... you did an amazing job on this story, honestly. Probably one of the best out there.
Thank you so much I really enjoyed it!
FullOfFaith chapter 1 . 10/2/2019
So beautiful! I totally agree with the religious bit. Jack lived in the 1700s when most people in the US were Christians after all. Great job!
mgsglacier chapter 1 . 9/22/2019
Oh my goodness, I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this story. I've had a couple different ideas about RoTG and religion but you brought them together so well! Thank you.
Guest chapter 1 . 8/17/2019
I love how you used the author’s name! William Joyce! Guardians of child hood! And I appreciated the story, well done
