Reviews for A Question of Unity |

![]() ![]() ![]() Oh my heart! Words cannot adequately express how thankful I am for this entire Merlin fanfic! It’s now officially Merlin canon for me, more than the original show. A lot do the times I love your version way more than the TV show episodes. You improved upon them a lot and the way you expanded the story is just *chef's kiss*. Your original characters are wonderful. I am in love with this A Question Of series and I come back sometimes to re-read favorite parts. And I ***desperately*** hope we get a continuation of this! Season 6 and 7 and heck, I’ll be here for seasons beyond that if you so wish to continue! We need more! I totally understand if you’re just done and ready to move on, or if life circumstances got in the way (I really really hope you’re ok!), but please know, I check back here regularly to see if this is updated and I will read it in a heartbeat the moment you update, even if it’s years from now, I will read whenever you post more chapters to Merlin’s story! I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one. Your fan base is still here and will read and celebrate whenever you post more. I have a suggestion if you’re dealing with writer’s block, as you've mentioned in previous chapters. So, part of what I think may be stalling the narrative is this story at its heart is about Merlin’s and Arthur’s relationship. And lately it’s started to veer away from that core. The more we veer away from that, the less it feels like Merlin and the less material we may have to work with. I may be a minority voice here, but I'm not a huge fan of making Merlin‘s immortality a life sentence without Arthur. Merlin’s loneliness may fit the original mythological Merlin, but doesn’t fit the BBC version of Merlin that’s much more focused around a deep relationship between Arthur and Merlin. Which is why I think the BBC show’s ending was jarring and didn’t work for me at least. But even the BBC version shows hope of Arthur’s resurrection. Here’s where I’d love to see the story go instead of making Merlin immortal without Arthur: Given Merlin and Arthur are two sides of the same coin, you could say where one is, the other must be. They cannot be without each other. They are one in many ways. And given Merlin is immortal and Arthur is the once AND future king (with a promise of Arthur’s resurrection in that phrase), I think you could create a story where BOTH Merlin AND Arthur are immortal, just immortal in different ways...Arthur may die one day, but he’ll resurrect and when he resurrects, he's immortal. Upon resurrection, he can reunite with Merlin where both are immortal and live on into immortality together. So both Merlin and Arthur will be able to be there for each other for forever in their immortality. Maybe you could have a storyline where Merlin and Arthur realize Arthur’s immortal too and that could lead to Merlin finally sharing about his immortality to Arthur, too. Or something like that. And in that whole process, you begin to recenter Merlin and Arthur as the main characters again, and bring them back together where it’s both of them doing life together, going on adventures together. Because I think the story can lose its track when it starts to create more distance between Merlin and Arthur. Merlin’s & Arthur’s relationship is the heart and point of the story. So idk if I'm the minority voice here, but I’d at least love to see the story continue where we’re bringing them back together as the central focus of the stories and where they realize that they’re both immortal and so neither will be without the other (two sides of the same coin…they are one in many ways and won’t be separated). It’s at least my vote for where we go from here and maybe it could help unlock more story ideas for more episodes of adventures with Merlin and Arthur. Idk. But anyway, my heart just so wants MORE of this story! So whatever you do whenever you write more, I’m here, in years from now, I'll be here to read more whenever you're ready to a continuation of the A Question of Series. It's been an utter delight! I'm cried hard, laughed hard, and fallen more in love with all the characters. Thank you so much for this gift! I truly hope more and more people discover this gem and your brilliant writing. Much love! |
![]() ![]() I've read your "Question of..." series multiple times. You have spoiled Canon Merlin for me. I want to thank you for the great time I had while reading. Thank you very much. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I hope to read more of this fic in the future. I have really enjoyed your stories. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I’ve just finished reading this series for the first time, and I have to say thank you so much for sharing this with the world. It’s really well written, and is everything I would hope the show to be had Merlin’s magic been revealed earlier. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I love this series, it's the 3rd time I've read it. I hope you find inspiration to write more. Previously you asked for prompts: Perhaps you could start the unification with Mercia being invaded so king Bayard has to come to Arthur for help? Could the prince and princesses independently of Arthur (and secretly) form a council of kings at the new temple and when Arthur visits surprise him by swearing fealty? I know you don't plan on giving Gwen and Arthur another child, but I think Arthur's response to having a daughter would be hilarious (he'd be wrapped around her finger). Long term, Merlin's son and her could marry, formally unifying Albion with the Old Religion. |
![]() ![]() Just got done with a full re-read of the series. Loved it even more! |
![]() ![]() I'd like to know how the new temple is progressing and the day to day lives of the young prince and princess. |
![]() ![]() Excellent story arc about Aithusa and Cissa. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Hiya! Just to say I read the "A question of..." Series. over the past week almost non stop was AMAZING! I love the slow(but not too slow) development of Merlin being found and accepted and the growing number of allies they gain along the way while also sticking to the main plots of each episode! Merlin has been my favourite show since I was little wase out so this au that incorporated almost all the best bits and more while improving them was great! As u were writing as .came our, and I was reading with full knowledge of the eps, I was intrigued to see what you do with some part that you'd mentioned but I knew would later be contradicted in the later spa but you did them well! Thanks so much and I'll Diego be back for a re-read of my favourite chapters at some point in the future of if ever there are any new updates. |
![]() ![]() ![]() just finished reading the series and up to where you last updated and just got whom history won't remember to read absoloutely loved this series, that its took me just a few days to read as couldn't stop reading |
![]() ![]() ![]() I’ve just reread the whole series, and I have to say yours is one of my favorite tellings of the story. You’re an exceptional writer! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Love this series! I keep coming back and re-reading it, even though I know its unfinished. It helps me out any time I'm feeling sad or lonely. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I need more. Give me more! Hope all is well, can't wait for the next chapter. Binged the whole series the past month. This is really well written. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Your books are really good, If I could I would have given reviews for each and every chapter of all your books. Cuz it problem for the flow of reading, I couldn't. I really wish u update this ,even though its 2013 u last updated this |
![]() ![]() Are you ever going to finish a question of unity or a question of resolve? They both need good endings that will hopefully make the wait worth while. Plus, I would like to see Merlin reacting to seeing his old friend Morgana again rather than the sorceress that has been trying to kill him for a decade. It would be extremely awkward for Gwen and Arthur. :) |
