This chapter is so well done, reflecting each one’s uncertainty about what the other really wants. They are both so good at talking themselves out of any possibility that they could be attractive to the other. They both do a lot of this: ‘She watched him anxiously, wondering what the hell was going on inside his head.’ I guess that’s kind of built into the mating dance.
For instance, ‘He knew he was acting like a petulant schoolboy…’ when Bella kept doing errand after errand. Snicker. But later in the day he ratchets that up to a capital offense and is reduced to hoping ‘that they could continue on in the way they had before he had so recklessly and thoughtlessly abused his position in Bella's life.’
And on her end, ‘Much as Bella wanted Edward—and she really, really wanted him—she couldn't help but think that he would find her wanting.’ Aww, women are so very critical of themselves.
There’s something very predatory about this: ‘Bella was jolted out of her reverie when she saw Edward move. She was frozen in place as he sauntered towards her, immobilised by his watchful gaze.’ There are some men who truly freeze me in my tracks just by sauntering across the room.
Bella’s phone conversation with Carmen made me smile: “I'm even writing again …. Yeah, I know, it's going really well. I think it must be this place—it's good for me..” Yeah, this place. That’s not all!
And yaay, she finally asks: "Oh, Edward. What is going on in that head of yours?" And even more directly, she eventually just kisses him. Misunderstandings all cleared up now! Nice: ‘He looked up at her, eyes wide, and Bella's heart melted at the warring emotions she saw there—surprise, relief, hope and, most gratifying of all, desire.’

Loved the story! It's amazing what a difference one small decision can make. They really needed to find each other. Loved your Alice and Rose. Always enjoy reading English writers and thanks for the clarifications. Never knew how crude "bollocks" was!
Thank you for entertaining us all with your beautiful talent.

You have a gift for writing natural-sounding dialog. This made me smile: "I like watching you sleep. You make these cute snuffling noises, like a puppy. And did you know you talk… like, a lot!" What a charming morning waking up together.
I keep forgetting Edward has long hair … I had trouble visualizing her pushing it aside to look at the angel tattoo between his shoulders until I remembered that!
That’s a good way for Bella to phrase it, that “[his mother] did love you the best she could”. Sigh.
Oh, how lovely that Edward had the experience of Marcus and Molly. That Marcus would “always find time for me…" – something every kid needs. Nice: “I loved it when he let me cook something and everyone really enjoyed it.” A little taste of success, of being good at something. Makes me sniffle that “[Marcus] was the best person I ever knew—at least, until I met you—so I want to tell you." Even though it makes Edward cry. God, has anyone ever listened to him tell his story?
“…my grandmother on Mum's side—she kicked Mum out when she got pregnant and I only ever met her a couple of times” So Edward’s mother never had a chance to learn good parenting from her own life.
Oh no, ‘Edward and his mother were left utterly bereft, losing both Marcus and Molly.’ How sad. No wonder Edward has trouble trusting that good things can last. Ouch, this really hurts my heart: his mother hooked up with ‘…a string of unsuitable and often abusive men … all of them disinterested in a vulnerable and heartbroken young boy.’
It seems so simple to the rest of us, but how miraculous to Edward that suddenly he can pursue the restaurant opportunity because “now you've got an address”. I love Carlisle in this role.

Amazing! I love this! I did feel like it happened a little too fast but I liked that you didn't gloss over that. You made them discuss it. Others would have just had them acting like teens and my thinking twice about it. I wish you would have added a 1 year anniversary of them meeting tho. That might have been interesting. But I loved everything! This is an awesome story! Can't wait for the next one! Much love!

I was reluctant to add this story. I waited for a while but finally added it. Wasn't sure I would like it. Obviously I added it. Oh My Gosh! I loved it! I started reading it on last week and finished it last night! It made my smile. It made me cry. It was wonderful! Thank you for sharing it!

Ooo loving this story so far and I love that it's British! I don't think I've ever read about Bristol in a FF before, if you could send Edward this way, I'd be very thankful lol
