| hjohn302 chapter 16 . 4/16
I am so glad to see these last two chapters. I haven't had the chance to read for a while, so two chapters at once was a thrill for me.
I like your inserting Halbarad in there, and Dwalin's interaction with him. It was a neat touch.
I look forward to more! :)

I LOVE THIS
always like a genderswap, and you got Bilbo exactly right!
Is she going to love a dwarf, or just mutual friendship?
| ACreativeHobbit chapter 16 . 4/9
Lovely story so far. I love how it's not uniquely Baggenshield, but Dwalin/Bilbo instead which is kind of rare. I love your writing style btw! I hope to read more soon. :) Cheers!

Well that was all adorable!
| elveriamoir chapter 16 . 4/8
he he Poor Dwalin, but at least you set his mind at rest. Thorin's head is still firmly wedged somewhere isn't it? I am glad Balin can still see the good in people. I girly squeeled when I realised you were back. Thank you for another lovely chapter.
| Athena Silverwolf chapter 16 . 4/8
Hmm. That, and the Dwarves' jealousy was interesting to read. I like that Dwalin promised he'd look after her, but I have a hunch Thorin was as jealous as the rest of them.
| ILove2Write13 chapter 16 . 4/8
LOVE Protective!Dwalin! I cannot wait to see how her relationship with Thorin progresses as the quest goes on!
| FlyingHampsterOfDoom chapter 16 . 4/7
Bless the way you write Dwalin. He is simultaneously in character, and someone whom I could easily see doting on Bilbo. I very much enjoyed your introduction of Halbarad, and I feel it served the very crucial purpose of introducing the Dwarves to a new level of protectiveness- not just that of Bilbo as their burglar as well as a woman, but also as someone they like and who they'll have to look after when around men. Because, as this chapter clearly put it, she's very pretty as well as a very good and kind person, and I imagine the dwarves will have a horrible time of "beating them off with a stick." Not that there's a whole slew of opportunities for her to interact with other men, but the way you've written the Company leads me to believe that they're both overly-protective as well as paranoid. Bilbo's love of elves is probably going to cause them no end of grief, and not just because of their horrible history and natural hatred of elves.
I'm very much looking forward to Bilbo integrating more with the Company, and I hope she comes to realize just how much they already like her. Her hesitancy and mild fear of them is currently preventing her from seeing how much they already try to look after her; though I imagine some of that also has to do with culture differences.
More than all that though, I'm excited about more Thorin interaction. I love the small bits we get to see inside his head, but I'm a huge sucker for seeing a character's reactions through another's eyes, and so the bits from Dwalin's perspective make me extremely happy. His surprise at Thorin's agreeing to Halbard joining them for dinner, and the multiple times he notes Thorin's more-than-usual sour face or hardness of tone. I need more of that in my life.
All in all, thank you for posting this fic, it's one of five Hobbit fics that I regularly look forward to updates, and re-read in between the updates. And thank you for posting a new chapter today! It was a great birthday present!

| Elsie chapter 16 . 4/7
Glory- new chapter! Love hearing from Bilbo, the OC Halbarad -presumptive he may be-, and even got a bit of Thorin. Still personally stuck on Dwalin and Balin eventually all but adopting her (Balin being quite obviously a kind old soul, and Dwalin a soft-hearted/intimidating grump) here. Ambivalent 'eh' to that inclination; I know that whatever progresses will turn out well!
Thank you very muchly for posting (and yes, sheep are a terror; any sort of shepherding is not quite the little nine-year-old dozing on a grassy hilltop).
Oh right! As for Bilbo's weaponized smile...sorry, Dwalin; the author has written- not a viable dragonbane. Thorin just experienced a moment of weakness for us all to smile about.
