|Reviews for Kick-Ass Drabbles|
| skywiseskychan chapter 6 . 3/3
so much for setting up a stable time loop. ;p
| Scarmagista chapter 6 . 2/26
... you have 1 drabble specifically designated as discussing time travel, followed by an image of a future child of Dave and Mindy, followed by a mysterious figure of indeterminate gender, and with 25 you have a person who knows too much changing canon events... other than 24, I am sensing a serious theme and left wondering.
My poor visualization skills imply mysterious figure as being BK, but I can't be sure (hence the 'poor'). if it is, though, you are setting off all sorts of big reveal flags for PC.
| Hickabickaboo chapter 6 . 2/25
Can't decide which I like more. I think the time-travel ones are great, especially how they can interconnect. But, "Legacy" is just down right funny.
| BlueEyedBrigadier chapter 6 . 2/22
#21 - Stable Time Loop
I personally have to wonder at what really triggered Dave's need to call Marty at 4AM to discuss the nebulous nature of time travel, and whether it would do any good to change events if one were flung into the past.
Are things in this drabble as nominally innocent as they seem, and it's Dave just needing to get a second viewpoint into a late night "mind's too busy" matter..or is there something bigger going on? Has the anniversary of his mother's death come around and he's feeling it heavily, or did Dave get Mindy hacked off and Daddy Damon came up as a reminder of Kick-Ass having blood on his hands (even indirectly), and now ideas about "fixing" the past are floating around his head?
Or has the unthinkable happened and Dave has gone back in time to a point where he could "fix" things like save his mother or help prevent Damon's death, but he needs an arguably neutral party to help him choose a course. Mrs. Lizewski living and/or Damon remaining alive has a shed-ton of consequences for Dave, Mindy and numerous others...and Marty's just pointed out the idea of those consequnces being worse than the known timeline.
#22 - Legacy
Amusingly enough, I thought this was going to be a thing where Mrs. Harrison was first meeting Mindy (11 is the right age for 6th grade) and having a flashback to either one of her parents giving her hell...but the idea of Mrs. Harrison meeting Dave and Mindy's little princess is all the more hilarious, since both parents are nucking futs (instead of just Damon for Mindy) and must have influenced Kim's behaviour quite a bit. Can't wait to see more of this drabble storyline...if any more percolates in your brain, I mean ;)
#23 - Never Forget
Ah...Biker Knight. What secrets do you hold about what drew to the life of being a vigilante fighting crime? Seems like justice for a lost loved one - common archetype, natch - though the similarities to how Damon and Mindy, and now Dave and Mindy, operate do make me wonder if there's a big bombshell to come in the Crushverse. Still, even if BK isn't directly linked to our dysfunctional duo to Vader-like revelations of identity to come, a look into the lonely life of being a crimefighter definitely adds a layer of compare-and-contrast to how Dave and Mindy being there for one another helps alleviate some of the mental strains.
#24 - Kiss Cam
Mindy is a crafty wench, isn't she? Taking advantage of situations like that to suck face with Dave in the guise of tormenting him with pranks, with Riley looking on in amusement. I bet Dave's gonna plan some interesting comeuppance in response to this incident ;)
#25 - Grandfather Paradox
Well now...it seems that someone's meddling in the KA universe's time-stream rather openly, if Dave finding both Chris and his Dad's goons slaughtered in the street is any indication. I have to say that, like other commentators, I now wonder if drabble #21 has become one half of a book-ending pair with this one...with Dave having come back in time and made the judgment call to take action to nip stuff like Chris truly losing his sanity and becoming the Motherf-ker and keeping Damon alive in the name of keeping truly big stuff - Damon's death, his dad's death, Mindy having to leave NYC to avoid police entanglements - from happening. Because I can't see a future!Mindy being as nominally restrained as the attacker who wiped out Chris and the D'Amico goons was if the possibility of saving Damon was on the table.
All in all? Another set of superb drabbles, Makokam :D
| Kyle37 chapter 6 . 2/22
Always great to get an update from you Mako, even if some of your drabbles leave me feeling slightly confused aswell as satisified. Keep up the great work mate.
| 2wingo chapter 6 . 2/22
21 - . . . Wow. Was Dave high or something? I ask because this is strikingly similar to a conversation I had with my girlfriend once regarding whether or not Batman was the true identity and Bruce Wayne just the façade (we were both on oxycodone at the time).
22 - Oh, I dearly wish to know what happened to cause Mrs. Harrison to react this way. Given that Dave had one foot out of high school by the time Mindy came along, something serious must have happened for it to be "they" instead of just "she."
23 - A rare look into Biker Knight's psyche. Seriously, I've been trying to figure out his/her/its/their deal ever since I dropped the theory that it was you-know-who, and I've made astonishingly little progress.
24 - I don't know why, but the comparison of Mindy to a meerkat had me giggling for an hour. I imagine that Dave read her the riot act when they got home. And seriously, can nobody else tell that the other girls are Riley and Angela? This had better happen in PC.
25 - And the Time Paradox comes full circle. As I've said before, adding preternatural stuff to a universe that just doesn't have it is not my particular brand of vodka, but this is interesting. Working from the theory that Mindy was the one who did this, a part of thinking that, even if she could, I'm not certain that she WOULD. Her friends, her relationship with Dave, all the simple things that people who live normal lives get to enjoy, she would not have had anything of these things if she'd continued her life with Damon.
| RobGill chapter 6 . 2/22
Stable time loop: I don't care if Dave and Marty have been friends since childhood; waking your best buddy up at 4 A.M. to discuss geek pop culture is jeopardizing said friendship. Anyway, I tend to favor the time travel model in which a changing the past causes a new timeline with those changes to branch off from the timeline the time traveler came from, a timeline which continues to exist, and preventing the time traveler from winking out of existence.
Legacy: Yeah, the mere thought of Macready offspring could very well drive some people to drink Maalox-or something stronger. The fact that she isn't at a predetermined "rebellious age" is beside the point.
Never Forget: This unnamed figure is certainly a haunting one. Yes, it may be a post-Mindy Dave at some undetermined point in the future, and with a redesigned costume, to boot. Then again, Dave isn't the only superhero who could experience the loss of a loved one in crime fighting...
Kiss Cam: Except for the stadium setting, this story sounds like a follow-up of sorts to the recent New Years HB; still trying to determine who the teen girls are, although I'm thinking that the one who smooched Dave must've been in an earlier Drabble (an out-of-costume Cub, perhaps?) You'd think Dave and Mindy would be careful with their affections around Jumbo-Trons. Unless, of course, they happen to be exhibitionists.
Grandfather Paradox: This scene almost feels like the pre-betrayal scene in the 1st film, with those other bodies in the SUVs being D'Amico's hired guns. If this is a message from the future, why would anyone want Dave to show Big Daddy and Hit-Girl to Red Mist, given how that event unfolded, originally? (Or was the death of Big Daddy necessary to prevent a worse future, odd as that may sound?) Was Red Mist's killer another time traveler, trying to undo the unfortunate encounter which Mindy and Damon had with Chris? Where Dave takes it from this point onward may be worth exploring.
| NJHarris chapter 6 . 2/22
#21 I love how this is the kind of conversation friends have with each other. Where one of them begins the conversation with a random query, that somehow ends up lasting longer than expected.
It's even better at how Marty has the knowledge of the "Stable Time Loop". It's that kind of random knowledge that can be found in everyone. Where they know something their friends don't, and at any point a moment could arise where they spout their knowledge to educate their friends. At four in the morning though, I can't imagine Marty was too happy to feed Dave with this information. Haha!
The randomness of the entire conversation and how annoyed Marty is at Dave for waking up about this clearly pressing matter, made this such a funny short! Haha!
#22 The names Macready and Lizewski must echo through the halls of their old high school. My god how much damage must they have done for an old teacher of theirs to think "Dear God. They bred." Haha! Possibly one of the funniest lines I've read of yours!
Then again when you're as awesome as Dave Lizewski and Mindy Macready, being their child grants you the status they've already put in place, haha!
Now, Kimberly will leave her own legacy. Cue sinister grin.
#24 This short had cheeky PC Mindy written all over it, haha! Taking any possible opportunity to get her hands on Dave, this time she didn't have to instigate the situation either. The 'Kiss Cam' did the hard part, all that was left as for Mindy to strike, haha!
There's nothing Dave can do but scowl at her, as Mindy's kiss is met with a roar of cheers. Haha, love it!
#25 Somehow, I can see a connection between this short, and #21. As its clear Dave's present and future have been drastically altered as he finds 'Red Mist' with his brains blown out, and Dave and Damon's hit squad left in pools of their own blood.
The 'What if' scenario's this short poses is immense! Wow, trying to think of all the possible outcomes of Damon and Mindy now never meeting Red Mist, and the possibility of Dave becoming part of their 'Super Vigilante Team' is giving me a headache, haha!
#23 Thought I'd save this one for last. And as I'm sure you can already gather, I loved it! The entire apartment lacking everything that makes it a home, the photo taped upon the mirror, the mystery behind our hero left intact. What I can see in our hero, is someone who has lost their identity. They've lost someone so dear to them that it's stripped them of what made them who they are, who they were.
The pain of loss has created the hero who that wears the helmet. That no matter how much pain they must feel, both emotionally and physically, they still go out every night. Taping the photo to the mirror for the hero to see whenever they enter the bathroom, to me, speaks as reminder for why our hero goes out every night. To me, it's payback for the one who was taken from them.
The tragic life of this hero, their identity continually shrouded in mystery, is what makes this character so interesting to me. And I will continue to love this character of your own creation. Loved this short!
Another great compilation of shorts Mako! Once again you never fail to bring your 'Kick Ass' magic!
| KrRcksMySx chapter 6 . 2/22
These are interesting :) I feel like they are more... Different than your usual stuff. In a good way :) In the first one I kept waiting for at the end, Dave telling Marty he'd gone back and done something, or something like that, but it never happened. Interesting piece though. THe beginning with Marty's reaction to it being four in the morning was hilarious.
The second one has me wondering who Mrs. Harrison is and the Never Forget one was also intriguing, lots to ponder on there :)
Loved the Kiss Cam one, total Mindy right there :) Although I have to wonder if Riley was a little upset, at least just a tiny bit that she hadn't gotten the kiss and instead it was Mindy, since that type of thing is usually rare to have happen to you and it's like a special moment to share with your loved one... But perhaps they've broken up at that point?
The last one was probably my favorite though, I can see a whole story spin off of that. Lots to ponder on: Who wrote the note (I'm guessing Big Daddy, but IDK), What/who killed all those people, and when in the movie arc is this happening? All very interesting :) Really liked all of these, and great job as always!
| The Dark Eccentric chapter 6 . 2/21
This was good. Are 21 and 25 related by any chance?
22 was amusing.
23 I quite liked as I always enjoyed Biker knight and its an interesting snap shot into his life.
And assuming i guessed whos who right in 24 that was kind of entertaining too.
| erbkaiser chapter 6 . 2/21
25 looks like part 1 of 21.
And I liked the little Biker Knight one.
| MOAR chapter 6 . 2/21
25- This was an awesome story and i wish it was a one-shot rather than a drabble. The title has me puzzled. There needs to be an edit review button.
| MOAR chapter 6 . 2/21
21- Interesting time travel theory.
22- "Dear God. They bred" This made me laugh way too hard. I'm guessing Mrs. Harrison was Mindy's teacher?
23- I gotta know who biker knight is. The suspense is killing me. I originally thought it would he would turn out to be an established character but after this I'm not so sure.
24- I like this idea. I know which one Dave is, and I'm guessing Mindy was the one to kiss him. Not sure who the other girl or the redhead is. The more I think about it, the more it's confusing me.
25- This was an awesome and i wish it was a one-shot rather than a title has me puzzled. I'm assuming that Dave was the one who traveled back, but it could also be Mindy. Would love to see a short' about why the time travel was necessary or maybe a short' into the future to see the results of #25. (I hope that wasn't confusing)
I love these drabbles. Can't wait for more
| WhiteTigerLilly chapter 6 . 2/21
Spoiler alert! Decided I'll do this if I'm writing details.
21: What could he possibly want to change? Or which thing? That "I'm here," scares me. And Marty feels like a way to tell the story. Like instead of just seeing what he's doing. (Which I figured out why later.)
22: Kimberly! *squee* I love when you write about them as a family. Even if it's just Kim we are seeing. I'd actually like to see more of this. Maybe another short fic or drabble of Dandy telling her about their experiences with said lovely teacher. LOL!
23: I always wanted to see more of him. BK, I wonder if we will ever hear his story. (Besides losing his partner, or at least that's what I get out of the photo.)
24: I feel privileged. I love this! LOVE it! It totally works with the near future PC verse too.
25: I knew it! You're great at foreshadowing. This could change things in SO many ways. He becomes the Kickass he is because of what happened there. There's so many what ifs' in that scenario. Like what if D'amico kills him and BD anyway? Who will Mindy have then? Marcus... Yea. But who's to say they can get her to him, or they don't kill her anyway? There's just too many 'what ifs!' (Well at least people won't suffer at Chris's hand.)
| shaqfu chapter 6 . 2/21
I'm assuming Mindy left the note in #25 because I don't think Dave is capable of creating that level of carnage.
