|Reviews for The End of the World|
| SFCBruce chapter 27 . 1/14
Being a relative newcomer to the world of fanfics, I have to say that I was extraordinarily impressed with this story and I am looking forward to delving into your other works as well! Incredibly well written and really lays the foundation of Haymitch as a very complex character. In my opinion you captured the depth of the "broken" individual from the foundation layed in the Hunger Games trilogy thru the characters of Katniss and Peeta. Also, you stayed right on track with established Hunger Games canon. Your perspective is very refreshing!

It is very likely story

Now that I've pretty much finished reading all your works...
I don't understand how you don't have more reviews. This is one of the best Hunger Games fanfics out there. Devoted to cannon, three dimensional characters, well-written, well-paced. The names, culture, and society of the Capitol and District 12 are both in sync with canon and expanded. You include more about Panem's past without infodumping.
I have only the utmost respect for authors like you who write an already established storyline from another point of view and succeed in making it fresh and interesting. I prefer to linger around with the very minor characters so I have less restrictions. High praise.
Looking forward to reading so much more.

Just a wonderful story. Your universe is so perfect and your characters so realistic and in character that I can't help but think this is the real story behind Haymitch. Beautiful

This is awesome. I love everuthing aboit it so far. You've created the world with such detail and while its faithful to District 12 in the books, its nice to see it changed just a bit. I like that Indigo is an orphan...nice unique touch.
| BecomingAmanda chapter 27 . 11/26/2013
This story was just amazing. The attention to detail was supurb, although I would suggest reading the earlier chapters before the reaping and doing your math over agin because the previous victor would have had to have been forty when she won the games in order for her to be ninth-nine when she hung herself years before the fiftieth anniversary.
That's my only criticism though. I think you did a beautiful job of capturing Haymitch and showing his transition throughout the story and I felt my heart just break for him repeatedly. You have a true talent for how real you make every character seem. I would also like to note how very Panem all the names in this were! And the fashion, you changed it from the 74th hunger games but it is still believably fashionable for Capitol people.
What I am getting at is that I could see this being a published book.
Even the ending, it got to me so much! I wanted to leave a scathing review about how much of a cliffhanger it is, but really, we know what comes next. It was probably the perfect way to end it and I grudgingly came to realize this after about five minutes of just starig at my phone screen completely dumb struck.
I applaud you for this amazing creation and all the hard work that must have gone into it that clearly shines through. If you ever publish a book please let me know because I would love to buy it because you have such a unique writing style.

Wonderful, great story. The ending is spot on, superb final line. Thanks for the entertainment ( should I say experience, some of it was NOT entertaining :-) )

What an ending. (And exactly 27 chapters, too, nice.)
I just got 'Catching Fire' out of the library, determined to reread it before November comes. But I wanted to finish this fic first, even though I knew that the worst was going to be in the last three chapters. Oh, my god, Fernwithy, how well did you tie everything together. I am in awe. Those last few paragraphs say so much - that Haymitch will always pull himself together, even bleeding and broken, when people need him - the imagery of fire burning away death, the match - Haymitch trapped in the Victor's world - conquering his own morbid imagination - DAMN. I'm so glad that I found this fic and read it, remembering my wholehearted admiration for your Sugar Quill work. Thank you so much for writing it.
And speaking of the Sugar Quill... I couldn't help but hear an echo of Dumbledore when Seeder wrote "The ones we lost never really leave us."
Now I have the task and pleasure (and feels) of reading all of your other Haymitch fics. Thank you again, Fernwithy, for writing this.

Always wondered why he didn't take his own life...
Keep writing as life allows...
| Norbert's Mom chapter 27 . 10/12/2013
Wonderful heartwrenching ending. Beckett really screwed up Snow's plan. She took away the last person he could hold over Haymitch and made him a sympathetic person the the Capitolites. Great job.

The end? As in, the actual, legitimately, complete end? NOOOO! I've become so attached to this story that I forgot it would one day be over. Anyway, I'd like to congratulate you for writing something so heart-wrenchingly beautiful. I have loved every one of your characters, the twists and turns of your games; essentially every letter of this story. You deserve a million reviews (and I'll deliver them, if we get a sequel hahaha)

Sad... ;( Poor Digger
| SteveHG chapter 26 . 10/10/2013
You're getting as bad as Lorata, building emotionally involving characters and then killing them off :-)
The idea of shallow colourful and fanciful Capitol TV is just about spot on - you clearly watch too much daytime TV LOL!
I do really like the almost matter of fact way you're seeing things from his point of view - close to canon but detailed and real in a way THG wasn't. It's almost surreal in places - we can see what's coming WHY CAN'T HE... and when it happens it's all the more effective.
| PB chapter 26 . 10/10/2013
Oh my god! Loved the ending! Agh you're so talented, but sooo cruel! Poor haymitch.
