Random Flyer chapter 15 . 4/24/2015 This is all bad news bears. Danny would do better to step back and look at the situation from every angle. The very fact that some of the few good ghosts he knows aren't at the meeting is a warning bell. If he was smart, he'd get out of there now. Very curious where you're going to take this. Update soon. |
Random Flyer chapter 14 . 4/20/2015 I liked the bit with Danny seeing Cas and freaking out. That's actually a pretty sane reaction. People in these days tend to think of angels as fat babies with wings, or serene ladies with flowers and fancy dresses. Actual biblical angels are freakin' terrifying. They fight demons for Pete's sake. I wonder if Danny's slowly becoming more ghost like. His initial inclination when he saw the Winchesters asleep seem to point in that direction. That or he's just being Judgey-McJudgerson... |
Random Flyer chapter 13 . 4/20/2015 Ok, I'm going to be a little philosophical in this review because I've seen this argument that "all killing is bad" before and I find it a little naive. Danny's right that murder is wrong, but when the killing is done in self defense or the defense of others then it isn't murder. That's why killing on the battlefield in wartime generally isn't considered murder because the soldier is defending himself, his comrades, his country, etc. (There are exceptions to this which is why we have the Law of Armed Conflict.) However, the whole discussion does a good job of showing Danny's remaining naivete. Sure, he's been fighting ghosts for years, has experienced more than most, and has the unique perspective of seeing the other side being a halfa, but he's still pretty young and inexperienced in dealing with real evil. (I don't think I can keep my mouth shut on this other minor point, Maddie's a fool if she thinks that unlimited energy will solve any of the world's problems. Many third world nations have vast natural resources at their disposal, but poor management, corruption, and many other human factors prevent them from taking advantage of it. More than anything, it's human nature that causes problems in the world. In some ways, I guess Maddie is pretty naive, too.) |
Random Flyer chapter 12 . 4/20/2015 In one of the author's notes you mentioned one of your readers didn't like that Vlad didn't get a "better death scene". Personally, I like how you killed off Vlad, partly because of this chapter. Up till this point, there's been the vague chance that Vlad might still be alive but here Skulker seems to be confirming the death. I like the route you're taking, telling the story almost entirely from Danny's perspective, but man, I'm wicked curious about the conversations the Winchesters are having. A piece of constructive criticism: Sometimes it can be confusing trying to tell who is saying what in the dialogue without the tags. |
Random Flyer chapter 11 . 4/20/2015 Congratulations on using "dove" instead of "dived". That's an error that always bugs me, and more common than you would initially think... I got the impression earlier that Dean might have had suspicions about Danny when they first met, I wonder, if that being the case, what the Winchesters will think now that they've found his phone in their room? |
Random Flyer chapter 8 . 4/20/2015 The ghosts popping up in Danny's ghost sense then disappearing makes me wonder if they're being "taken care of" by the angels. I'm curious what happened to Skulker. The last we heard of him he was off toward what I'm assuming would be Amity. It's been a day or two so it's conceivable it could take him that long between the two places, unless he was intercepted somewhere in between. Enjoying the story! |
Random Flyer chapter 6 . 4/19/2015 I'm curious where Cas is... Your style of description is interesting. It doesn't go into much specific detail, but you still manage to get the feel of the scene across, which is what really matters. |
Random Flyer chapter 5 . 4/19/2015 I'm guessing Sam got hurt and Danny started cutting her out of the ghost hunting to keep her safe and she's mad at him for it. That or they started dating and it went sour. See? This is what I mean. You give just enough information for the reader to figure out maybe 60% of what's going on, but don't spill everything too soon. Keeps us guessing and interested. A lot of authors either give away too much back story or not enough. It can be tough hitting that sweet spot. |
