Just finished rereading this story for probably the fourth time and enjoyed it as much as I did the first time. Thanks so much for your lovely M/M stories. They are all fabulous and you’re sorely missed.

My goodness, this story is wonderful, from beginning to end. I enjoyed the way you skipped around in time, somehow without it being confusing at all. Also how you hinted at Matthew's plans, without giving anything away until the right moment - I knew something was up, but couldn't guess what until you showed it.

I've read several of your long stories, and every one, I think it's the best yet - so, right now, until the next I jump into, this is another favorite! Good God! Outrageous! :)

I just wanted to tell you that I love all of your stories. It's neat how you bring Alex into them in different ways. I think you've done a great job expressing the characters, and bringing your own twists and turns into the action. Well, back to reading, until I get through all of them! :)

I greatly enjoyed this story. I've often wondered what could have happened if Mary and Matthew met pre-series and I greatly enjoyed watching how how you pictured it played out. This fic took a harsher view on Robert and a more liberal/rebellious view on Mary, but I found both depictions well within their canon characterizations. Mary is headstrong, stubborn and rebellious and if she'd been give a push earlier those same traits which showcase her independence would have surfaced earlier. Likewise, with Robert, Robert is a great guy to those who are 'common' and within his control but he's never been that great in how he treats his family. He loves his family, to be sure, but he treats them worse than his tenants, villagers and servants very frequently. He's also arrogant, refuses to admit he needs help, proud, not nearly as smart as he thinks he is, and a little chauvinistic (which, admittedly, for the time period was still rather progressive). He likes to act as though he's the man, the ultimate authority and wisdom and teacher and protector, and he only ever seems to learn different after being forcibly confronted by people who won't back down and having his face shoved in the dirt a little. I loved the balance and the love and the respect in Matthew's and Mary's relationship as well - you hit just the right note! Your portrayals of all the characters were very realistic but still very different. I greatly enjoyed reading this story and will get started on reading the sequel tomorrow! For now, I'm going to sleep ;) Thanks for sharing :)

In fact, I just finish to watch all the episode of the 6 seasons of Downton abbey. It sas A réal pleasure to stay a little bit more on this world with your fiction. I am french but there is very few fanfiction about Mary and Matthew in french so I read yours. And it was perfect for me (and my english vocabulary ).

At the end, on your comment, you talk about a prequel of "Flirting with Convention". Did you, in the end, publish it ? If yes, what is the name of this story ? I will enjoy to read.
