Reviews for The Waning
Violet chapter 30 . 11/23/2016
Thank you for seeing this out until the end. As always, you're such an amazing writer, the ending was so well done it almost made me cry. Thank god you love USUK as much as I do (it'll be about 2 and a half years for me). I'm kind of interested in knowing how you became to be so fixated on them. They have one of the most intriguing, entertaining dynamics that is even supported by frickin RL (RL can be like a fairytale apparently), so you're not alone in your obsession. Good work dude! I look forward to stalking newer works in the future haha .
hikikomori-kuma chapter 30 . 11/22/2016
Why does your AN feels like a graduation speech? I feel so happy and sad at the same time!
Thank you for making such a wonderful fic, it's three Halloween's worth. :)
Nightcore Senpai chapter 30 . 11/21/2016
*Violent clapping*
Holy mother of fanfiction...that was freaking awesome. Long enough to be a book and good enough too. I loved reading this, it was a pleasure. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this and actually completing it. There is nothing more depressing then getting into a really good fanfiction, then having the author give up on it. Moreover, I was SURE that the ending was going to be soul-crushing and bone-snapping. I was waiting for the rest of my week to be filled with gloominess and depression but I was not only pleasantly surprised, but overjoyed to have my little gay babies back into their crib, safe and sound. And making out.
I hereby name this the 5th best fanfiction I have ever read. You can bet I'll be re-rereading this one.
Darkabyssoflove chapter 30 . 11/21/2016
Awwww damn I teared up slightly. I love this story and I'm definitely reading it again. You're an amazing writer. I've read a lot of your work and this is one of my favorites... perhaps my absolute favorite. I'm glad this story is finished so I can reread it every time I'm feeling salty.
Prism Queen AA-9 chapter 30 . 11/21/2016
That ending was perfect. I loved this chapter it's just totally wonderful and I just am such a sucker for pain, misery, death, destruction, and finally a happy ending. This fic has been one of the best I've read and I'm quite happy to have been reading it before it was finished. I dunno, it just makes the experience a little sweeter. Thank you so much for writing this and for giving those two dorks a happy ending in many AUs. It's been a truly wonderful fic
Guest chapter 30 . 11/20/2016

Guest chapter 27 . 11/20/2016

Tea chapter 30 . 11/19/2016
It's...it's over.
It's so beautiful that words literally cannot describe this.
I had planned on writing a fanfic that would span the AU's, now I know how to effectively do that and what things to avoid. Thank you for this great fic! Definitely my favorite and a classic that should be as popular as 'We'll Meet Again' in my opinion.
Mythomagic101 chapter 30 . 11/19/2016
I cried. I cried at the end of this.

I really don't know what to say. With every email notification, I would click the link and read with great excitement. However, today I did everything at a snail's pace. I knew it was the end, but it was difficult to admit that the angst, adventure, and magic would be gone. This story was, like the characters you portrayed, a monster, a beautiful and stunning monstrosity. It was no doubt a pain to write, and for the readers it was an anxiety, yet at the same time there was a certain satisfaction and intrigue in the plot and star-crossed protagonists. At times I was stunned and scared at the turn of events, the appearance of the Hands of Lucifer for one, but mostly I was reading with my eyes wide and my mouth open. The motifs and artistic writing somehow made the story shine instead of steeping it in gloom, which it had plenty of. I'm just rambling now.

What I loved with this epilogue is that you connected the entire Hetalia universe. Canon, Sweet Devil, Cardverse, Gakuen, are all interconnected, crossing with The Waning universe at its axis. It's absolutely genius and another testament to your creative mind. With The Waning complete, there's now room to expand. Perhaps another story will appear to rival this one, though I'm sure you want to take a break after this victory. Keep writing, because as just proven, you have a gift for it. It was an honor to be with you for this story until its end.
I acknowledge awesomeness chapter 30 . 11/19/2016
At first I was slightly confused with the name and scenario changes because at first they're at a high school halloween party then in THEIR castle, and again they're nations, and I was thinking that maybe I had misunderstood but the cleared it all up. Alfred created tons of realities just in case he fucked up. That is sappy as Arthur said, but undeniably sugary sweet and heartwarming. Very nice. Perfect closure to a very intricate and wholesome story. I love it, even to the end.I thank you for having made this story and seen it to its end.
Tamitan chapter 30 . 11/19/2016
*ugly crying*
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhwwwwwwaaaahhhh .PERFECT.
I love this ending, i love it, I FREAKING LOVE IT! It was amazing how you described each world and took us to the truth. Finally, they don't have to suffer anymore. Finally they are happy. It's beautiful.
Thank you for this amazing story and these great years of emotion, suspense and updates! XD
Amelia F chapter 30 . 11/19/2016
Awwwh, I'm so filled with emotion... I can't believe this is the end! I'm so glad my babies got their happy ending and thank you for this amazing literary ride of twists and turns, its been a blast and I've enjoyed every last moment of it! :)
pinkdoughnuts chapter 30 . 11/19/2016
I get it! It's all the world's Alfred made, so not just becoming countries, but the card verse, a highschool version. This ending was beautiful and amazing.
It's sad to see it end but then again everything must come to an end. But I had a great time.
Thank you.
ScorchingFlamesBurn chapter 30 . 11/19/2016
OMFG my mind was blown
like, at first I thought that there was some mistake, they were students then royals?
but then I noticed that you were switching around between their parallel universes and I LOVED IT.
I love love love how you write these things and btw have you listened to lana del rey; national anthem? I think you would love the beginning of it- the dialogue.
Anw, Thank you so much for this and i can't believe that it's over T.T The sad thing to admit is that nobody is writing good usuk fanfics anymore. You are the only writer I still get alerts from, did you know that? And The Waning has kept me company since 2014, and now it's over...
Oh GoD WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH MY LIFE ANYMORE
seriously the only reason I open fanfiction anymore is to read this.
Thank you again and again and forever more for writing this and going on with it till the end, and I hope that you never bore of this, and that we as well never lose interest in hetalia or writing
TRhank you for such a majestic ending, thank you for making us scream and cry and yell at our screen "Robin WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO OUR BABIES!? T.T WHY WHY"
tHANK YOU FOR continuing this, thank you from all our hearts. We LOVE you. ;) onwards and upwards baby, and you know what I wish for now? I wish that these would become real books, I wish that someone would turn them into comics as with Butterfish's stories
Diurnal Days chapter 30 . 11/18/2016
Lost souls, seamless AU transitions, and an actual gooey romantic ending (for once)?

Jfc. Just when I thought that the ending of this fic was becoming a bit stale, you throw in some new spices for good measure before you gift-wrapped this early American Thanksgiving treat. :D

Gakuen? I never thought you'd write Gakuen Hetalia, since you don't seem like the sort of writer to write cheesey humanverse fics, but you subverted all of my expectations and actually wrote Gakuen. When I read the first segment I had to back up and check to see if I was reading the right story several times, seriously. O.o Despite the weakness of the Gakuen segment in comparison to your more typical Cardverse and canonverse segments, this was still the most unexpected ending I've read from you, especially after I predicted the canonverse segment several chapters ahead of time.

Speaking of which, that amazing canonverse kiss takes the spot as the best kiss I've read in one of your fics, ever. I've screenshotted it to read later in my times of misery and despair to recall a crowning moment in one of your most iconic fics ever. You've seriously blown me away with this update.

Matthew and Alfred's relationship in the Cardverse was a lot gooier than it was in your other fics and in Hetalia canon, but that's all in good fun and cheer, considering just how happy this ending is in stark contrast to some other recent updates. I did feel like the last chapter left some open threads hanging loose, so it's nice to see everything neatly wrapped up in one amazing package.

I've probably mentioned most of what I can say in my final review of this fic in previous reviews, so the rest of this review will be disjointed ideas about what I liked, what needed improvement, etc. Don't expect any coherency from here on out, especially since I'm half asleep but still determined to leave a good review at the end of The Waning.

The idea that Alfred created a whole multiverse with the Hands of Adam/Lucifer is very, very interesting. It makes you wonder if the extraordinary powers of nations in canon have to do with anything like that, or if APH America created the world of Hetalia and simply acts young and clueless to circumvent suspicion. It's kind of a far out idea, but a valid one nonetheless. I'd also like to note that some scientists believe the Big Bang happened after a previous universe contracted into nothing, and that Hawaiian mythology mentions a world before ours that was destroyed, the only survivor being the octopus. (Weird, right? o.o) I'm happy that all of the universes Alfred spawned in a moment of supreme creation have the happy, romantic, gooey USUK ending I was hoping and holding out for. It's unconventional, but definitely an ending that has put a big smile on my face.

Unfortunately, I have a small gripe with the themes in The Waning. I may be against organized religion infringing on human rights and government, but I feel like the Vatican and religion in general was too one-dimensional in this fic. The concepts of Arthur's origin as an exploited young monk and the vampiric Hands of Lucifer/Adam are certainly interesting, and this fic would be significantly different without the presence of organized religion, but a lot of the church's general character in this fic felt too flat, lacking a full respect for religion's somewhat dubious but existent benefits. It's especially strange considering that this fic takes place in a more conservative time than our own, and whilst monsters that are constantly persecuted by the church would have a rather negative view of their oppressors, it's still strange to me that even the outsiders Alfred and Matthew still don't seem to like religion that much despite their upbringing in 1940s America. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I like the concepts associated with the church's involvement in the fic and I do agree that the church is not necessarily a benevolent force, but I also felt like the fic could have had a touch more realism or depth if the church had been presented as more than the Big Bad.

Wow, Al and Art have come a long way, haven't they? They met as a doughboy American soldier and jaded vampire English officer and ended up as two undead lovers whose love extended so far that it created an entire ever-expanding multiverse of happy realities. Canonverse may be the most bleak of them all, but it's also the most self-aware universe and the closest to the world of The Waning that you built, at least as far as the reader can see. Overall, this fic is actually quite romantic, despite the bleak setting of a 1950s where there is ceaseless war between monsters and the church.

Vampires do have a strange kind of sexual something, don't they? It is exploited constantly in the media, but it made Arthur seem all the more beguiling and charming, especially in his most defining moments where he is either backstabbing Alfred, kissing him senseless, or both. It should be plenty clear by now that so many people (especially me) are fascinated with your iterations of England due to your way of playing up up his charm just enough to emphasize his manipulative, masochistic, bastardly character in ari
