| Snapping Quill chapter 1 . 4/13/2023 Huge fan, rereading this story for the second time, and it occurred to me: how did the ministry obliviators know what memories to wipe? Obviously it wasn’t a blanket “all memories involving magic” because Vernon and Petunia remember Dumbledore, but in order to target the memory of Harry’s accidental magic, wouldn’t they have to at least identify the incident they were overwriting? And if they did, does this mean the ministry went to a muggle home, saw memories of the abuse of a magical child, saw that child disappear in an act of accidental magic powerful enough to register on the Trace (which doesn’t normally pick up accidental magic), and said, “Whelp, that sure is odd!” before continuing on their day—and apparently not even filing a report about it if Dumbledore didn’t find anything when he checked at the ministry in Chapter 2?! |
