This was very well written! I love how Calvin still has Hobbes! :D I couldn't imagine them without the other. You kept them very much in character, though I'd like to think that Spaceman Spiff is not actually an alter-ego, but just his imagination. This story is well done! :D

Great work. Catch ya on the flip side.

Loved it. It was totally realistic and everything Calvin did was really believable. Two thumbs up to the best writer ever!

Like other people have already said- the drama is great, the dual stories are great, and the Spiff idea is definitely great.

Woah... I really liked this one! Lol, Calvin. Getting yourself in trouble as per usual. XD

You really ride the line between humor and drama in this one. I think it's very much in character for Calvin's focus to often center on the excitement of what's going on rather than any danger that may be involved, or if he does register the danger it only enhances the sense of adventure. The way that you have this switch between present and future was very effective and I like the parallels and history repeating itself vibe. This is genuinely funny in some parts, but it's fairly dark in others, such as when you realize that young Calvin has likely been nabbed by some depraved sicko. It seems totally like him to at first just be smug over his own coming fame at being kidnapped, but then things actually start to sink in. The original series does mix raw emotion in with the comedy, but it's always done very judiciously. I don't think Watterson would ever cover something like pedophilia and child molestation, but the way that you start with humor and then punch us with a world without safety nets is a nice echo of the way he did the more dramatic aspects of the comic strip.
Calvin's many dives into space opera and film noir style scenarios seem mainly like a coping mechanism for boredom, but it's interesting to think that they might also fill in for other stressful situations. It also comes at a good time, right before things sink to the very vile and gritty aspects of kidnapping. I so approve of Hobbes being a presence even while Calvin is 16. I'm not sure how exactly I would define him, but he's more than just a figment of Calvin's imagination. Great sequence where Hobbes logically lists off all the reasons why Calvin wouldn't have stolen Susie's car, and one the foremost ones being that Calvin wouldn't start a life of crime without taking Hobbes along for the ride. It's also a good segue as things get increasingly serious, and it's very affecting to see things from Hobbes' viewpoint.
Interesting piece. We don't see a lot of Calvin's parents being that overt in how they care for him, but it was nice to see them hugging and crying over him, and Calvin not minding, and it has that rock of truth in it that this is probably how it would. Really liked how Calvin's dad just lifted him off his feet when he got back from his second kidnapping. I like how Calvin pretty much comes out on top in both the kidnapping scenarios, though police presence was very welcome when he was younger. Thanks for writing!

Hey, I haven't reviewed a story in a while, but I really felt like I needed to review this one.
I love Calvin and Hobbes. Always have. Grew up with it, and what not. There's always been something so safe about reading it. Like it's a little safe haven in my heart, a bit of childhood leftover that can't be touched. It's good to read the funny parts, but there are also those strips, like the one about the little injured raccoon, that you just need in order to heal. It's sad, and it's scary, but there's something that just makes the end feel like a sigh, and we feel all our tension release.
This is one of those stories.
I haven't read a lot of fan fiction for this particular category, but I'm glad that I did today. I was feeling a bit down, but something about your story just made me feel better. Like that even though the world is dark and scary, there are still safe havens and there's still a lot more hope than we think. I feel really relieved.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. I've been on break and was trying to get caught up on things before the next term begins on Wednesday. Anyway, I really enjoyed this story. It was well worth the wait. Could there be...feelings developing between Calvin and Susie? Naaaahhhh... Guess I'll have to wait and see. ;) If I don't hear from you before, have a wonderful Christmas and New Year's. Thanks for the kudos, dahling! :)
