You missed an opportunity here to have Celestia offer herself up as a martyr for Discord to take out his anger on rather than Equestria. As much as I despise martyrdom, it only took me 5 minutes to imagine her coming up with that solution.

Because I know very well that's what her kind does. She is Gutless and totally lacking in Willpower. And Gutless people of her kind kill themselves rather than eat the consequences of destroying others.

Celestia would rather kill herself than face the consequences of having destroyed Equestria. Or destroying Discord either. Offering herself up as a sacrifice to prevent either is obvious.
