/人 ◕‿‿◕ 人\ - "Let's make a contract!"

"What's your most desired wish?"

Kagome grit her teeth and clenched her hands, finally deciding to give the small strange creature a few moments of her time after it had followed her for the past few days.

"You have a wish, don't you?" The cat-like animal stared at her with those unrelenting red eyes and it honestly sent a shudder down her spine.

"Doesn't everyone want a wish of theirs to come true?" Kagome retorted, not bothering to stop her walk back home from school, "Why would you single me out out of everyone else?"

The creature kept up with her easily and she didn't even want to look at it. Yes, it was adorable and cute and even looked cuddly, but she knew she couldn't judge a book by its cover.

Kirara with her large form was testament enough for that.

There was something completely... off about this creature.

"I can grant you a wish if you make a contract with me to become a Magical Girl!" The cat's voice sounded cheery and she simply wanted to give a kick to its cute face, "Any wish that you want!"

"Magical Girl, huh?" Kagome repeated dully, thinking of those kiddy anime she used to watch when she was a little girl, "Going around and fighting in short skirts?" She smiled bitterly, "I think I've had enough of that already."

"Oh?" It tilted its head curiously, "Have you contracted already, Higurashi Kagome?" It asked, looking unconcerned when she glanced at it sharply, "My name is Kyuubey, if you want to know."

"I didn't," Kagome said coldly, fingering the bow that she kept strapped to her back, "There is nothing I want, nothing I desire for," She outright lied, "Take your 'wishes' and just leave me alone."

"But you have so much potential! Perhaps the most potential out of all Magical Girls!" Kyuubey didn't seemed to get the message, "Why waste such an opportunity?"

Kagome stopped and looked to the sky with unseeing eyes and a wistful voice, "Wishes, miracles – anything in that nature, it's not free. Nothing like that ever is and ever will be."

And so, it only took a second for her to snatch her bow from her back and charge it with a spiritual arrow, "What despair awaits me with your damned wish!?"

She then watched with an apathetic gaze as Kyuubey seemed to dissolve in a shower of sparkles as her arrow struck and simply began to walk once more, 'Wishes don't exist and they never have.'

Higurashi Kagome knew that well.
