I know, I know, it's been a long time. I hope this long chapter makes up for it!
18. Harry Potter vs Aurora Sinistra
Draco was in a bad mood.
Harry was in a bad mood.
Severus was in an atrociously bad mood.
And Severus really could not figure out why they were all in a bad mood.
Everything had been going fine. Mother's Day had come and gone, and Severus thought he had done a good job celebrating it with the boys. He had them make pictures for Eileen and for each of their respective mothers. He had taken Draco to the Malfoys' graves, so the young boy could give his picture to Narcissa. It had been almost a year since Narcissa and Lucius had been killed, and Severus couldn't believe, as he watched the little blond boy place the picture on his mother's gravestone, how much Draco had changed. He was much more animated, he had grown a couple inches, and he seemed to understand more.
He had then taken Harry to the Potters' graves. Harry drew Lily a lovely picture, and the little boy chatted animatedly with his parents. Severus also couldn't believe how much Harry had changed in the last few months. He, like Draco, had grown taller, smarter, and much more confident in himself. There were still trying moments, but Severus knew that Harry would be alright. Before they departed, Severus took a minute to talk to Lily alone, and he asked her if it was alright with her if he pursued a relationship with the Astronomy Professor, Aurora Sinistra. He knew that it was rather silly, asking a gravestone for advice, but Severus just had a feeling that Lily would give him some sign. His mother, colleagues, and the Astronomy professor herself had told him that Lily would be fine with him pursuing happiness, but he needed to know for sure.
Severus was not disappointed. After he was finished speaking, the wind blew gently, and the scent of lilies hit his nose. As soon as the sweet smell hit his nose, he heard the faint sound of laughter. He knew from that, that Lily would approve.
The following evening, while Eileen was watching the boys, Severus made his way up to Sinistra's tower. She was getting ready for classes that evening, and he knew she would be alone. When Aurora heard the door open, she looked up and smiled when she saw who was at the door. "Good evening, Professor Snape. What can I help you with?" she asked as Severus stalked up to her desk.
Without saying a word, Severus placed a gentle hand on the side of Aurora's face and kissed her gently on the lips. Aurora immediately responded. When they finally broke apart, Severus spoke, slightly breathless, "I think I'm falling in love with you. You are so good with the boys, and you put up with a lot of my nonsense. I want to be with you. Would you like to go for dinner some night?"
Sinistra just smirked before she kissed him again. "It took you long enough," she replied after she pulled away.
Since that night, the two had spent a lot of time together. Severus was rather hesitant about having Aurora spend a lot of time with the boys. Eileen seemed to have the same concerns. However, after the three adults shared an evening together, Eileen gave her approval. Severus then knew that he had nothing to worry about.
After that night, Aurora spent a lot of time in Severus's quarters with the boys. The couple had been careful to keep their displays of affection to a minimum around the boys. Severus already knew Draco would probably be alright with their relationship; it was Harry he was worried about. Harry didn't always do the best with change, at least, that was the excuse that Severus was going with. A small part of Severus was a little terrified of Harry's response to his relationship. Severus knew, subconsciously, that Lily would approve of Aurora. Severus was terrified of Harry's response. If Lily's son didn't approve of this relationship, Severus knew it would have to end. He wasn't sure why he felt this way, but he did.
The potions master had shared this with Aurora. He felt like this was something he could not keep from her. She had urged him to talk with Harry, but Severus hadn't yet. He just asked Aurora to be patient with him and that they not act like a couple around the boys.
As the weeks passed, Severus had a suspicion that Draco knew, but the blond boy had already confronted his godfather weeks ago about this and had given his approval then. Severus wondered how long he could keep it from Harry. However, Harry did find out, and his reaction was not what Severus had expected.
Aurora had come over for dinner, like she did most nights now. They had just finished eating; the boys were playing in the living room, Severus was just finishing the dishes, and Aurora was sitting on the couch, alternating between her book and the boys. Severus entered the room, drying his hands on the towel, and flopped down unceremoniously next to Sinistra on the couch.
"Hmph," Sinistra exclaimed as the man flopped down next to her. "I never imagined the great Severus Snape flopping down on the couch like a common folk. I thought such actions were beneath you, Professor Snape."
"Hm, well, the affects you have on me, Professor Sinstra," forgetting that the boys were in the room, Severus leaned forward and kissed her gently. When they parted, Severus started when he saw a pair of emerald eyes staring at him. "Harry…"
"Sev'vus, why are you kissing Miss Aurora?" The question broke Severus's heart. He didn't know what to say. He wasn't prepared for this. He was completely gob smacked. He just didn't know.
"Because Uncle Sev likes Miss Aurora a lot. He loves her, Harry." Draco said matter-of-factly whilst he continued to play with his blocks.
Severus stared dumbfounded at Draco. How could that little boy make a complicated situation seem so simple. Severus cleared his throat, and Aurora, sensing his unease, grabbed his hand. "Harry, I, ah, I should have told you this weeks ago." He gave Aurora's hand a squeeze. "Aurora and I have been dating for several weeks now, and I care for her very much. She wants to be a part of this family. However, if this makes you uncomfortable in any way, I will stop seeing her."
"Sev'vus, why are you dating her? I don't understand what that means."
"It means that Aurora and I spend a lot of time together getting to know each other. We enjoy spending time together. I felt very lonely for a long time and now I don't feel so lonely. Do you understand?"
Harry slowly nodded. "I think so. I like Miss Aurora. She likes to play puzzles with me. Um, we can still play puzzles, can't we?" Harry looked shyly at Aurora.
The brown-haired witch gave the boy a smile. "Well of course, Mr. Potter. I would be rather sad if we stopped doing that together."
Harry returned her smile. Severus had hope that things would work out.
However, a week later, Severus was not so sure anymore. He thought things with Harry were fine. The boy seemed a little quiet, but that was not abnormal behavior for Harry. Severus just let it slide, and he decided that he would talk to the boy if it continued much longer. The boys had just spent the day with the Weasleys, and Aurora was going to spend the evening with them. Severus hoped to have a pleasant evening with his small family. However, when the boys stepped through the floo, Severus knew that was not going to be the case. Green flames erupted in the fire place, and two small boys were produced. Draco immediately ran over to Severus and hugged him. Severus placed a hand on the boy's head; he could tell Draco was upset. "Harry was being a meanie. He pushed me today, and he didn't even say sorry."
"Oh, really?" Severus looked sternly over at Harry. He could immediately see something was wrong with Harry. Usually the boy had a repentant look in his emerald eyes whenever he got into trouble, which wasn't very often. However, Harry didn't look apologetic at all. He looked rather furious. "Harry James Potter, why did you push Draco?"
"He was being a git, that's why."
Severus opened his mouth to scold the boy, but Aurora, who had just walked through the door, beat him to it. "Harry Potter! You do not call people names!"
Harry whipped around to face Sinistra so fast that Severus was surprised that the boy didn't get whiplash. Severus also noticed that Harry had a look of intense fury in his eyes that was unlike Severus had ever seen before. He had, however, seen that look in another pair of green eyes many years ago after a certain incident by the Black Lake. Severus could not fathom what Sinistra could have done to deserve that look from Harry. Looking up at his girlfriend-er-partner-er-significant other, Snape was surprised to see that, while slightly startled by Harry's anger, was not afraid of it.
"Shut up! This is all your fault!" Harry screamed at Sinistra. He looked like he wanted to hit her.
"Harry James Potter! We do not tell people to shut up," Severus reprimanded the small boy. He took a step forward, but Sinistra put her hand up to stop him and discreetly shook her head.
"What have I done to offend you so greatly, Mr. Potter?" Sinistra asked calmly. "I believe we parted on good terms last night. I feel like I do not deserve to be disrespected by you."
"Well, I feel dis-ra-spected by you! I hate you! I wish you never started dating, Sev'vus!" Harry stormed over to her and gave her a shove. Hard.
Sinistra, slightly surprised by Harry's aggressive behavior, stumbled a little, but she managed to stay on her feet. Before she could say or do anything, Severus was at Harry's side, kneeling down to his level. "That is enough." He growled in a stern voice. "We do not push, and we do not talk to other people like the way you just spoke to Aurora. Apologize."
Harry shook his head angrily. "I won't. I won't 'pologize."
Severus gave Harry a stern a look. "Then you shall go to your room until you can apologize. I don't wish to see you until your attitude has changed. I am very disappointed in you, Mr. Potter."
Harry then did something that shocked everyone in the room.
He burst into tears and fled to his bedroom, slamming the door behind him.
Severus stared that the closed door in disbelief. What had just happened? Aurora knelt down beside him and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Severus, if I'm going to be a problem, I can—"
Severus cut her off. "No, I don't think you really are the problem." He turned his attention to Draco who was sitting on the couch, clutching his stuffed dragon for dear life. Severus opened his arms, "Come here, Dragon."
Draco perked up a little at the calming voice of his godfather, and the little boy hastened to his godfather's open arms. Severus hugged and cuddled him and placed a kiss on top of his head. "Draco, can I ask you a question?"
Draco didn't answer, but he nodded into Severus's chest.
"Did someone say anything to either of you today about Aurora or myself? Why did Harry push you today?"
Draco pulled away from Severus just enough so they could look each other in the eye. "Everything was good. I was playin' chess with Percy, and Harry was playing with Ron and the twins. Then, Harry just stopped playing and went to sit by himself. When Mrs. Weasley told us it was time to go, I went over to tell Harry. He got really mad and pushed me. I yelled at him. I told him I didn't like that he had pushed me. He just ignored me and went into the house. I didn't say nothing to Mrs. Weasley because I was gonna tell you when we got home. I don't know why Harry's being a meanie."
Severus pulled Draco closer again and thought about what he had said. One of the boys must have said something to Harry that caused him to be this upset. Severus had no idea what it was. Things had been going so well, that he couldn't even think of what could have set Harry off. Severus glanced at Sinistra. She appeared to have a look of understanding in her eyes. Severus was glad to have Aurora around. She seemed to understand this situation more than Severus did. He took one hand off Draco's back, and grabbed Aurora's, interlacing their fingers.
"I think it has something to do with me," Sinistra whispered. "I don't know what, but something was said to Harry today to make him feel this way. Go and talk to him. I'll stay here with Draco."
Severus nodded. "Draco, I'm going to go and talk with Harry. Would you mind staying out here with Aurora. I'm sure she would love to color a picture with you."
Draco pulled away and looked at the Astronomy professor. She gave him a smile and held out her hand. "Come, Draco. Let's go color a spectacular picture."
"What does 'pectabular mean?"
"Spectacular means it's really awesome. We can make a night sky if you want."
"You better go and teach her how to draw something else, Draco. She spends so much time looking at the stars, and that's all she knows how to draw."
Draco giggled while Sinistra scoffed. "I'll have you know that I can draw lots of different things."
"Well, go and draw them then, whilst I go and speak to my wayward godson." Severus smirked at the pair as they ventured over to the boys' art supplies. He took one last look at the pair before making his way to Harry's room.
Severus softly knocked on the door before entering. He noticed that the curtains were closed around Harry's bed, and he could hear the boy quietly crying. Severus moved to the left side of the bed; he knew that Harry usually preferred the right side. Potion stained hands opened the curtains, and Severus's heart almost broke at the sight before him. Harry was curled up on the bed, crying. His glasses were skewed, and he had tears running down his face. Harry was not acknowledging his presence, and he didn't know if that was because he was ignoring him or if he hadn't heard him enter the room. Severus laid down on the bed next to Harry and gently placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
Harry did not pull away from the comforting touch on his shoulder, but he did not lean into it either. His only acknowledgment was a sniffle. Removing the hand from his godson's shoulder, Severus began carding through the messy black hair. "I am very displeased by your actions today, Harry," Severus told the boy in a gentle voice. "You pushed Draco, even though you know violence is never the answer. You were very rude to Aurora and pushed her as well. I would like to think that there is something that is frustrating you, which is why your behavior has been so atrocious today. I will be most displeased if you are just acting this way to be naughty. Would you like to tell me what is wrong?"
Harry shook his head and continued to sob.
Severus knew that Harry would eventually tell him, so he just continued to gently card a hand through his hair. "I plan on staying here until you tell me what is wrong, Harry. I hate seeing you so upset." Severus placed a gentle kiss on top of Harry's head. "I love you and Draco so much, and it makes me dismayed to see you this sad."
"I love you too, Sev'vus," Harry mumbled. His sobs had devolved into tears. Harry turned over so he was facing Severus. A potion stained thumb gently wiped the tears away as Harry spoke again. "I love you, and that is why I'm mad. I'm so mad that my tummy hurts."
"Why are you mad, Harry?"
Harry sniffled. "When-when you and Miss Aurora started datin', I had this feeling in my tummy, too. It was different then it is now. I didn't want her. We are fine, just you, me, and Draco. But Draco told me that she makes you happy, and I want you to be happy. I like Miss Aurora, and the feeling in my tummy went away as she spent more time with us. But-but today, Fred, George, and Ron said some stuff, and the bad feelings came back much worser."
"Worse, Harry, not worser," Severus corrected quietly.
Harry nodded. "I just got so mad. I shouldna pushed Draco. I was just mad. Then Miss Aurora was scoldin' me, and I just kept getting madder and madder. I'm sorry, Sev'vus. I'm really, really, really sorry."
"I know that you're sorry, Harry. However, I wish to know why you are so mad. I wish to make it better. That is my job."
"I don't want you to stop taking care of me," Harry admitted in a rather quiet voice. "Ron and the twins were saying that now that you have Miss Aurora, you won't want Draco and me no more. You're gonna marry her, and you won't want to keep us no more. You and Miss Aurora are gonna have your own kids, and you're not gonna wanna take care of us no more. I'm a scared that I'll have to go back to the Dursleys'. I was so mad that I pushed Draco, and when I saw Miss Aurora with you tonight, I just wanted her to go away. I want her to go away so I can stay with you!" Harry wailed and burst into fresh tears. "Please don't send me away, Sev'vus!"
No words could describe the emotions Severus was feeling right now. Harry thought that because Severus was in a relationship with Aurora, that he would send the boy away. Lost for words, Severus gathered the small boy in his arms and soothed him while he cried.
"Calm down, Harry, you're going to make yourself sick. Shhh, it's alright," Severus tried to calm the boy in a soothing tone. "Oh, Harry, I think you have the wrong idea about this whole situation. Come on, calm down and look at me."
Green tear-filled eyes looked at him sadly. "Harry, I want you to listen to me very closely. I love you, and Draco, more than anything else in the whole. More than coffee, more than potions, more than chocolate cake, and more than teaching dunderheads all days. You boys are the most important things in my life. You two and your grandmother. You three are my family. However, I found that I want to add to my family. I wish for you two to have a mother figure. I wish to have a partner that will help me raise you two. Your grandmother, Grandpa Albus, and Aunt Minnie have been a tremendous amount of help to me this last year. But I want someone here all the time with us. Someone who loves you just as much as I do. I believe that Aurora is that person, Harry.
"Aurora is not here to steal me from you. You will never go back to the Dursleys. Never, never, ever will I send you back there. Draco and you live here with me. I want Aurora to live here with us. I love her very much, Harry. However, if you truly do not want her here, I will ask her to leave. You have my word."
"She makes you happy," Harry mumbled. "I don't wanna make you sad, Sev'vus. I want you happy. I just- I just—" He was unable to finish his thought.
"Yes, Harry, Aurora does make me happy. However, seeing you this upset and anxious does not make me happy. I want your happiness to come first Harry. I want you and Draco to be happy. If you two are happy, I am happy."
"What happens if you and Miss Aurora have kids? What's gonna happen to me 'n Draco then?"
"You two will have to be the big brothers. You and Draco will have to help us take care of the baby. However, if Miss Aurora and I have a baby, I will still have time for you. I will still read with you, play with you, and do the things that we do know. I may not have as much time as I do now, but I will always have time for you. You will never have to leave, Harry. This is will always be your home, no matter what. I promise you this, Harry."
Harry sniffed and wiped his eyes. "But, Sev'vus, if you and Miss Aurora have kids, they're gonna be more important than Draco and I. They're gonna be your kids. You're gonna be their dad. You're not my dad, Sev'vus." Harry sniffed again. "I'm not your son. I'm just your godson."
"Oh, Harry," Severus just pulled the boy in for another hug. He held the boy for a long time until both had calmed down. They broke apart, and Severus used his handkerchief to wipe away the rest of Harry's tears. "I would like you to go out and sit at the kitchen table with Draco and Miss Aurora. I believe we all need to have a talk. I shall join you shortly." Harry nodded his consent and made his way to the kitchen.
As soon as the boy had left the room, Severus put his head in his hands and sighed. How could he have missed this? How had he not considered this? Severus had been trying to get the adoption papers finalized for weeks. The kink had been Draco and his inheritance as the Malfoy heir. Severus had just gotten the final papers back earlier in the week. He just had not found the right moment to talk to the boys about them. He finally stood from the bed and went into his bedroom to retrieve the papers.
Harry found Draco and Sinistra sitting at the kitchen table drawing some kind of picture. Harry, who was a little leery of how Sinistra would react to his presence, took a seat next to Draco, away from Sinistra. "What ya drawin', Draco?" Harry asked.
Draco stopped his coloring to look at his godbrother to see if the other boy was still mad at him. Seeing that Harry no longer looked angry, Draco relaxed a little bit. He knew that he should be upset with Harry still, but he knew that something was upsetting his godbrother. He knew that his Uncle Sev would fix it. "We're drawing the forest at night time. Isn't it neat?"
Harry nodded in agreement. "It is pretty neat." Draco smiled at the praise and went back to his coloring.
Harry watched him for a moment before saying, "I'm sorry for pushing you, Draco. I was mad at something else. I wasn't mad at you. I'm real sorry. You can push me back if you want."
Draco looked at the boy surprised. Before he could respond, Severus stepped in the room. "That's very nice that you apologized, Harry, but nobody else is getting pushed today. I would like for you also to apologize to Miss Aurora, then the four of us are going to have a talk. After we talk, Harry, I expect your nose in the corner for twenty minutes, so that you may think about your behavior today."
Harry nodded solemnly as Severus took a seat next to Aurora and took her hand in his. "Miss Aurora, I'm real sorry that I yelled at you and pushed you. I was really mad at something else. It was un-'ceptable behavior."
Aurora gave the green-eyed child a smile. "I forgive you, Harry; however, please try to remember not to take your anger out on other people. It hurts other peoples' feelings."
"'M real sorry. I won't ever do it again," Harry mumbled as tears began to well up in his eyes. Severus brushed the messy fringe back.
"No more tears, Harry. That was a very nice apology. Now, on to other matters," Severus said as he put an envelope on the table. "Harry was upset today because the Weasley boys told him that if the two of us got married that Harry and Draco would be kicked out. I quickly squashed that idea," Severus exclaimed when he saw the horrified look on his girlfriend's face. "He then thought that if we have children that we will not want to keep Harry and Draco around because they are not our children but my godchildren. This brings me to my next point." He pointed at the envelope. "Inside this envelope are two sets of adoption papers. You would both have to keep your last names because you are both the last of your bloodlines. What do you think?"
Both boys gave him a blank look. Draco spoke up first. "What does 'doption mean?"
"It would mean that I would be your father, not just your godfather anymore. You may still call me what you usually do though. You would both get to be my sons, and if Miss Aurora and I get married, you two would also get to be her sons as well."
Harry was too shocked to speak, and Severus noticed that Draco looked a little apprehensive. "What's the matter, Dragon?"
"Uncle Sev, I want you to be my dad. I love you, but I don't want my other dad to be hurt or mad at me because I want a different dad now."
"Oh, Draco, come here," Severus pushed his chair back and situated Draco in front of him. "I want you to listen to me very closely. Your mother and father could and would never be made at you for this. They would be very happy that you have a family that makes you happy. If you are truly uncomfortable with it, we can remain as we always have. I will not be mad."
Draco leaned forward and hugged his godfather. "I want to be your son, Uncle Sev."
"I want to be your dad, Draco," Severus murmured as he kissed the blond head. He looked over at his other little boy. "What do you say, Harry? Would you also like to be my son?"
Tears were running down his cheeks, but he nodded. "It's what I always wanted, Sev'vus, but it's too much to ask."
"Oh, Harry, come here," Severus kept one arm around Draco and wrapped the other around Harry. "This is most definitely not too much to ask for. I'm just glad that you both want this as much as I do. I love you both very much."
"Love you too." Both boys mumbled into his chest.
Severus gave the boys one last squeeze before he looked at Aurora. She had a content smile on her face.
She reached forward and touched his face. "Are you happy?" She asked.
Severus nodded and leaned forward to kiss her lips. "This is the happiest that I have ever been." He kissed her again but this one was even longer than the first. It was cut short when they heard both boys groan. Severus chuckled as he pulled away. "Well, I think I have a naughty son that needs to go put his nose in the corner before we have supper. Your grandmother may be joining us." Severus stood and lightly smacked Harry's bottom with the adoption papers. "I'll be sending these papers off in the morning." Harry giggled but walked over to the corner. This was the happiest he had ever been, and it was all thanks to Sev'vus.
