The Doctor was working the TARDIS controls when he noticed Martha watching him.
"Okay, what is it?" He said turning around.
She shifted in her seat. "Nothing."
"You have been staring at me for fifteen minutes, there must be a reason."He said leaning against the console.
"Well I was just thinking you do this all on your own, right." Martha asked.
He nodded. "Yes, I do."
"Why?" Martha asked.
The Doctor shrugged. "Why not?"
"Well you could get a crew." She pointed out.
"For what?" He chuckled.
Martha observed him twirling around the controls again and smirked. "For one thing it would keep you from twirling just to run your console."
He put his hands on his hips and frowned. "I do not twirl, thank you very much."
She snickered. "Yes you do."
He did another twirl over to the other side of the console "Okay, maybe a little." He admitted.
She shook her head. "Do you ever get lost?" Martha asked.
The Doctor did a so-so motion with his hand as he hit some buttons with a mallet.
Her eyes followed along with his movements."Why not get a GPS system?"
He shot her a look. "I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that."
"Sorry." Martha replied, looking regretful.
The Doctor smiled at her causing her heart to skip a beat. "It's okay." He said.
"Is this machine all yours?" She asked.
"Sort of." The Doctor answered.
Her eyes widen in shock. "You stole it?"
Shaking his head he corrected her. "No borrowed, I was going to return her but I never got around to it."
"Her?" Martha arched her eyebrow.
The Doctor sighed. "Yes her and the TARDIS is a she not an it."
She glanced around in awe. "Wow, that's impressive, a living spaceship."
The Doctor smirked.
"Must not be easy traveling alone, I bet all kinds of things have happened to you." Martha said.
He nodded. "Pretty much but it's not like it's on purpose."
"What happened to all your friends?" She asked.
"They're gone." The Doctor quickly replied.
She looked puzzled. "What do you mean gone?"
He didn't say anything but his silence said it all.
Martha blushed with embarrassment. "So this is a police box, yeah?" She said changing the subject.
"Yep." He replied popping the "P"sound.
"So does that make you sort of like Superman?" Martha asked.
"Superman?" He said surprised. "Hmm I never thought of it like that." He replied grinning.
Martha smiled then asked. "Can you tell me where are we going?"
The Doctor grinned. "It's a surprise."
She groaned. "I hate surprises."
"Why?" He asked.
"The waiting. I hate the waiting." She replied.
"Hmm good point but it's still surprise." He said.
"Aw, how come?" Martha whined.
"Because I like surprising people." The Doctor teased. He then glanced at her and said. "You like to ask a lot of questions, huh?"
"I'm sorry." She replied suddenly feeling silly.
Puzzled the Doctor looked at her. "Why?"
"For asking so many questions." She replied peering down at her feet.
The Doctor smiled. "Oh, Martha there no such thing as too many questions."
"Really?" Martha asked.
He nodded. "And you know what?"
"What?" She replied.
The Doctor smiled and came closer to her. "I like being asked a lot of questions and I like you."
He then extended his hand to her. "Welcome aboard Miss Jones."
She smiled and shook his hand. "Glad to be here Mr. Smith."
