"So, what do we do now?"

We were all sitting down in Stiles's living room and we all had no idea what to do or how to find Derek who Scott was sure is missing. Stiles's question went unanswered as the three of us looked at each other for solutions.

"You know he might not be missing at all, so what if he didn't answer your text. It doesn't prove anything."

"It wasn't a text; it was texts and calls Malia. Something is wrong I know it." Scott responded worryingly.

"Alright, his loft was probably the last place he was at, let's go and check it out." Stiles suggested to the room, I looked at Scott for confirmation while he slowly nodded in agreement. Stiles quickly mumbled something about being right back and left the room.

"Do you think he's okay?" Scott asked softly as he made his way to stand in front of the window.

"Probably not." I replied cynically, he turned around looking at me frowning so hard in my direction like he expected a different answer.

"What? If you really think he's missing that's just a fancier word for dead."

Scott scowled deeply as he fully turned to face me. "No he's not dead. We will find him." I just shrugged in response throwing myself on the couch.

"You know the first few days he didn't answer I thought maybe he was busy with something or he went to visit his sister." He continued talking slowly walking to a chair nearby to sit down. "But something is wrong, Derek always checks in on me."

I sighed, thinking that he was right; Derek cares for and would probably die for him if it came to it. "Yeah, he's a good friend."

"Yeah he really is. You know it's hard to think of a time when I didn't like him." He chuckled lightly; I raised my head to look at him.

"What? You didn't like Derek?"

"I was actually scared of him. Stiles and I thought he was a serial killer or something."

I laughed, thinking of younger Scott and Stiles running from Derek in the woods."You know with that 24/7 intense look on his face; I would think so too."

We both laughed for a minute before we went silent, waiting for Stiles to come back. Finally we could hear him coming down and we both sat up.

"Let's go." Stiles said when he reached us, looking at me he extended his arm handing me a…phone. "This is for you, in case we need to reach you."

"Oh. Okay."

"It's a little old but it will do for now." He explained as we all walked out the door and into his jeep. The ride over to Derek's was exceptionally long, maybe it was because we didn't know why were we going or what we were hoping to find. We had no leads and we knew it. Stiles finally parked in front of the building and the minute we got out of the car I knew something wasn't right, I sniffed looking around me.

"Guys stop." I demanded as I extended both of my arms out, protecting them behind me.

"What? What is it?" Stiles asked frantically at the same time I felt Scott stiffen behind me, sniffing the air.

"Someone is here." Scott said quietly.

"Not just someone, we're all here." A voice so deep and gruff announced loudly as he came out from behind the bushes and slowly three more came out of hiding. Scott slowly took a step forward.

"And who exactly are you?" he asked so calmly and confidently like nothing was happening. No wonder he's the alpha.

"We're the people who are going to kill you if you don't cooperate." the man replied with a smirk.

"What do you want?" Stiles asked.

"We want to know where is she?"

"Who is she?" I asked as I let out a sigh.

"You should know, you're the only who knows her." The man once again replied with a smirk as he looked me up and down.

"Come on, she's known as the desert wolf."

"I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about."

"Well, I could always take you and make you tell me." He threatened as he took a step towards me, both Stiles and Scott stepped in front of me.

"That's just not gonna happen." Stiles said sternly and bravely as if that man couldn't crush him on the spot.

The man's eyes suddenly flashed red, letting out a grunt. "Get' em."

On instinct, I moved quickly pushing Stiles behind me. "Stay back!"

Lowering my head as one of them came at me I punched him in the gut, before clutching his jacket and throwing him on the ground. I looked around for Stiles to find him nowhere. Oh god. I found Scott fighting three guys and he was losing, instinct took over as I rushed to him growling.

I got one of the guys of off him as I punched him in the face, he quickly punched back, feeling the other one come from behind me, I threw my elbow back hitting him in the stomach. Turning again I circled my leg around the one in front of me, making him kneel while using my arm to choke him, throwing my other arm behind me reaching the other guy's neck I flipped him on his back, quickly moving my foot to his neck as he struggled for breath. I looked back at Scott to find him still fighting the alpha, scanning the area; still no trace of Stiles. Panicking, I looked down at the two men at my mercy and then at the alpha. No no no.

"Where is he?" I glowered, tightening my grip on his neck.

"W..w what?" he gasped.

"You were four. Where did your friend take him?" tightening my grip even more, I growled.

"He's right here, sweetness." I turned around letting the one under my foot go. Stiles was in the man's grip, his claws wrapped around his neck.

"Let him go!" I spat.

"Tell your alpha to stop first."

I turned to look at Scott; he was winning against their alpha, punching him repeatedly.

"Scott stop, they have Stiles." I yelled.

Scott stopped mid punch, eyes red and fangs out as he looked back at us, reluctantly he let him go before standing up.

"We don't want to hurt you, just let him go." Scott instructed calmly.

I looked at Stiles and I can tell that even though he was scared, something in his eyes told me that he was ready to die at any moment, that he's never afraid to die. I hated that.

Their alpha stepped up to me, eyes still red. "Give him to us first." He said pointing to the one currently gasping for air in my arm.

"There's no way in hell I'm letting him go, before this dick lets go first."

There was a long silence. "Let him go or I promise you'll be picking your friend's guts of the floor." I warned voice calm and controlled. A minute passed before the alpha gave the signal of okay. He finally let Stiles go, once I made sure he was okay, I threw the man on the ground.

"You do know this is not over, right?"

"No. Because you have our friend Derek." Stiles and I both looked at Scott, it all made sense then. They did have Derek, because they think he knows who the desert wolf.

The alpha smiled."Indeed we do and he is alive by the way, before you ask."

"I don't suppose you'll tell us where he is?" Stiles inquired, sighing and crossing his arms.

"That would be too easy. You'll receive a call telling you where to meet us. I hope you'll have what we want."

"We don't know any desert wolves, we can't help you."

"Either way, now you have to." We all went silence before Scott growled and took a step forward.

"Leave. Now." Scott commanded, clenching his fists in warning. They all looked at each other before slowly started backing away.

"We'll meet again soon." and they were gone, I ran over to Stiles, gripping his arm.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine." He responded curtly, I frowned slightly."What happened?"

"Nothing I tried punching him, but obviously that was like a needle, so I went to get a brick and he got me then."

"We're okay now." Scott said patting him on the back.

"Who are they?"

"And who the hell is this desert wolf?"

"Whoever they are and she is, they seem sure that you know her." Scott reminded me. They did seem sure that I knew her. How was that even possible.

"Well, I don't."

"I know."

"What now?"

"Now, if Derek is anywhere in this town, I have a way to find him." I said brightly, moving pass them and into the apartment building, I could hear them following me as I reached the loft. Opening the door I turned around to face them.

"Find me something of Derek, Preferably something he recently wore or used."

"We already know Derek's scent to find him, why would we need something of his?" Scott asked frowning, I smiled widely in response.

"Because it's not for us."

"Okay Malia, what are we doing in the woods?"

"You'll find out in a second. Be patient." I said as we finally made our way to my den.

"Back to your den, what, spending the past few weeks here wasn't enough for you?" Stiles remarked snidely, I turned to give him a look that clearly said, seriously!

Turning back to face the woods, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "Alright don't freak out, especially you Stiles." Opening my mouth I howled.

"What are you doing?"

"Why would I freak out?"

They both asked at the same time, I raised my hand to signal them to stop talking, as I howled again.

A minute later, three coyotes emerged from around the trees, once they laid eyes on me, they ran toward me, kneeling down to greet them I smiled.

"What the-?"

"Oh my god."

"Okay Stiles, remember you freak out. They freak out."

"Malia, what's going on?" Stiles asked, I can hear the underlying panic in his voice, it was quite endearing. I stood up to face them.

"They are my friends, or as you like to call them, my pack."

"Friends? How do you even know them?" Scott asked while he walked closer to them, slowly kneeling down and patting their heads. Surprisingly they leaned in to his touch.

I smiled."They like you."

"Of course they do, he's a freaking wolf." Stiles exclaimed incredulously, rolling my eyes I went on to explain.

"You guys didn't really think I was alone all those years, did you?"

"Well..yeah?" Stiles said weakly.

"Well, I wasn't." I said.

"They're not confused by your human form?" Scott asked still scratching fury's neck.

"Of course they are, but they still recognize my smell." I explained as I sat down beside him patting the other two, so they wouldn't feel left out.

"They're amazing." Scott breathed out as he played with fury, I grinned they seemed to really like each other, which was weird since Fury hates everything."They really are." I responded.

"Oh that is just great, I'm glad you guys like each other, can we go now?" Stiles snapped at us and his tone only made me grin wider. "Come on Stiles, coyotes are loving, loyal and compassionate," I replied brightly, still not looking at him.

"Yeah I'm sure they're all warm and fuzzy."

"Hey! What is that suppose to mean?" I asked in mock horror turning to look at him.

He just stared back as if to warn me not to mock him and to take this seriously. "Listen Stiles, you of all people should know just how lovely coyotes are," I said beaming widely and throwing him a wink. A slow grin started forming on his face before he was smiling from ear to ear as a blush took over his face, I smiled wider as we gazed at each other.

"Alright! Stop with the eye sex and give me the shirt," Scott teased, raising his hand and showing his open palm. "Right, Stiles hand it over,"I said to Stiles, waiting for him to come closer but he just stood there, peering over our heads, like he was making sure they won't attack. "Really? Still afraid?"

Stiles bit his lip and shook his head."I'm just cautious." He answered, taking one step closer and throwing the shirt to me. I caught it, bringing it closer to Bob, looking into his eyes.

"Okay Bob, don't let me down."

There was a sudden silence, I looked at Scott to find him staring at me, looking back at Stiles, I found the same funny look. "What?" I finally questioned.

"Bob?" they asked in unison.

"Oh I named them. You know…in my head."

"Really? interesting."

"Aha, that one is Bob, this one is Showy and that one who seems to be in love with you is Fury."

"Lovely names, after certain traits I assume,"Stiles said, shooting me a grin. I nodded smiling.

One by one we made them take in Derek's scent to their core while Stiles waited behind us leaning against a tree. "Are you sure this is will work?" Scott questioned, doubt in his tone.

"Trust me, if he is here; they will find him." I reassured him, giving him a weak smile.

"So, do we follow them?" Stiles asked from behind us. This was ridiculous, why was he so scared.

"No, if they do track the scent they'll come back and then we'll follow them. If we follow them now, we won't be able to keep up," I told them, looking back at all three of them, I smiled, staring deep into their eyes as mine turned blue."Find him and then find me." I instructed, they all bowed and took off.

After we dropped Scott off, the car went silent, Stiles was unusually quiet which led me to belive it was me. Maybe he didn't want me to go back to his house with him, maybe he was still mad at me and I just misread everything between us as usual.

"You can drop me off at Derek's; I'll sleep there tonight,"

He was silent for a moment before he glanced at me. "Is that what you want?"

"No."I replied honestly.

"Then, you're coming home with me,"he countered simply, looking at the road.

"Is that what you want?"I couldn't help but ask. Not missing a beat he answered.

The smile that spread on my face could not be controlled but when I looked back at Stiles, he was still frowning staring ahead. He was clearly thinking about something and it was upsetting him, reaching out I lightly punched him in the arm.

"What's wrong?"

"Ha…nothing, I'm fine." He answered, plastering on a smile.

"Seriously Stiles, give it a rest, I know you better than that." I countered exasperated.

He let out a long sigh, before suddenly stopping the car in the middle of the road, once we were parked he went back to silence as he hunched over the wheel, before dropping back against the head rest.

"It's just I hate when things like what happened today happen,"he started, slowly saying what's on his mind. "Sometimes I feel so helpless you know, like I couldn't help enough."

All I could do was gap at him in shock. "Stiles, that pack would've never survived this long without you and you know that."

"Malia, a Japanese spirit possessed me because I was weak,"

"Listen to me that could have happened to anyone." I argued, it baffled me the way sometimes he saw himself.

"Yeah, but it happened to me. Because I let my mind be open to it, My mind which is supposedly the strongest thing I have!" he gave a punch to the steering wheel in frustration.

"Stiles, you told me you thought you were dying, you were vulnerable and it took advantage. It's not because you're weak."

He let out a humorless laugh. "Sometimes I can't believe it all happened, you know? What kind of world does all of this exist?"

"An imperfect cruel one,"I started hesitantly. "Although, I think at times it may surprise you and be wonderful, you could even say interesting,"

"Yeah, a wonderful, interesting world where humans are sometimes wolves, where people die, and evil spirits exit-"

"Okay okay, point made."

We both laughed softly as I took his hand in mine and gently rubbed it. Looking up at him to find him already looking at me, I softly smiled.

"Why are you thinking about this now?" I quietly asked, because we've had conversations like this before.

"Because of what happened today, when that guy had me and I couldn't fight him,"he started, his other hand playing with his hair."Don't get me wrong, I don't wanna be a werewolf or have super powers. I'm glad I'm human-"he trailed off.

He turned back to look at me, his eyes wore so many emotions, like he was feeling too much all at once. "I hate feeling like I could never control the situation." He let out a shaky breath, averting his eyes from mine. I raised my hand to touch his cheek, so he would have to look at me.

"A very wise person once told me, control is overrated."

Slowly and gently one of the biggest smiles I've ever seen, graced his lips and I couldn't help but smile right back at him, stroking his cheek. Letting out a chuckle he nodded his head in agreement.

"He is very wise." We both laughed before we quieted down.

"Stiles, get out of the car." I abruptly commanded.

"Just get out,"

Once we were both out and we were standing facing each other, I smiled brightly.

"Stiliniski, I'm very proud to say, I'll be your mentor from now on." I announced giddily.

"My mentor? What are you even saying?" he said chuckling and raising his eye brows.

"I'll teach you self defense, I'm actually surprised Scott never taught you,"

"That's because I never asked and I'm not asking now!" he said exasperated.

"Too bad you don't have a choice."

"Malia you're extremely strong but that doesn't mean you know how to properly fight; so you could teach someone who doesn't have super powers." he remarked, thinking he was so smart.

"First of all that doesn't make sense, you've seen me fight and you know I can kick ass,"

"Yes, but—"

"If and that's a big if, what you say is true, I know how to survive and that is what I'm going to teach you." I finished happily.

"Oookay, what exactly are you going to teach me?"

"I'll teach you what you learn when you suddenly transform into an animal. Trusting your instincts, knowing your surroundings, and oh so much more." I gave him a wicked smirk.

"May I ask, what are we doing right now?" he questioned, crossing his arms with a slow smile.

"Right now I want to work on your reflexes," I started as I moved closer to him."I'll try to hit you and you duck, ready?" he reluctantly agreed, I waited counting in my head the seconds passing by until finally, I threw in a punch and it hit him right in the nose. Thank god I didn't use full strength.

"Oh my god, you were supposed to duck."

"And you need to stop punching me!"

"That was once!"

"We're leaving, get in the car," He demanded already moving back to the car

"Don't be a baby, it wasn't even that hard." I said as I followed him and got in the car, once I closed the door after me we were driving again.

After a few moments of silence he spoke up. "I hope the next lesson goes better."

I glanced at him to find him smiling widely, looking at the road. I let out a loud laugh.

When we first reached the street Stiles's house was on, the first thing I noticed was the crowd and apparently so did Stiles, if the car slowing down was any indication.

"What is going on?"

Then I noticed the police cars surrounding Stiles's house and…an ambulance. I quickly turned to Stiles to find him staring in shock at the scene in front us, while I just looked at him, not wanting to believe what was going on. I didn't know what to do or say, because out of all the scenarios that we could play in our heads, we were focused on the most important one. And that was the scenario that gripped Stiles with fear, he couldn't move. He was completely frozen. I just sat there staring at him with wide eyes, counting 1..2..3. His body finally reacting, he Suddenly moved so quickly, struggling with the locks, finally opening the door and sprinting out of the car. I quickly followed, running after him and calling out his name. But he just kept running in panic one word leaving his mouth.

"Dad, DAD!"
