"I'm coming back for you, Calypso, I swear on the River Styx."
Calypso gasped as she stared at the retreating raft, blurred by her endless tears rolling down. She could hear the empty promise he made. She didn't know why but she could.
At that moment she wouldn't care why.
"Coming back?" she muttered to herself. "Coming back? He really shouldn't make empty promises. If I see him here next time, I'll—she gritted her teeth in an attempt to look ferocious—cut him up and make some nice steak with him." She raised her head to feel the wind, but instead of looking stronger, the wind pierced her eyes, making her cry even harder.
Or was it really the wind?
Calypso looked up at the glint of gold in the sky. She looked back down at her plants.
"No, Calypso, "she thought. "He won't be coming back. All those heroes with their empty promises."
But, all the same, she stared up again. The glint of gold was getting closer and closer…
Could it be him? Could it?
Getting closer, closer, closer…
Calypso looked away, eyes wide with joy…and horror. No, it couldn't be…
There was a deafening crash as she heard a familiar voice cry out, "Seriously, Sunshine? I thought you'd learn from last time not to put your dining table on the beach where innocent demigods can just crash into!"
Calypso stood up straight. She could hear his teasing smile in his voice. No, no… it was just an illusion…
"Sunshine?" He called again, now his tone was a bit worried. "Calypso?"
She couldn't stand it anymore. Illusion or not, she was going to meet him.
And then she could see him.
Scrawny, messy hair, cute little smile.
She inhaled sharply.
He had his arms held out wide, as if welcoming her into his embrace.
Calypso didn't hesitate. She ran toward him and kissed him full on the lips, as she had done so long ago.
"See, mi Solana (my Sunshine), "he smiled. "I don't make empty promises."
She smiled too. "I know, Leo."
I know.
