The immortal being known as Q has been fascinated with humans for a long time. A long time for humans, that is, not a long time for Q, who has been around for eons. Only recently, about a decade or two ago he had actually shown himself to them, aboard the starship Enterprise, which was en route to its first mission to inspect Farpoint Station on the planet Deneb IV at the time. Unbeknownst to the humans from Earth, another human civilization existed at the other end of the Milky Way Galaxy.
At some point, Q discovered a star system in the delta quadrant, far from federation space, that was inhabited by a human civilization. Using his powers, Q quickly found out where those humans came from, how they got here, and how they were related to the humans from Earth he was familiar with. The Twelve Colonies of Kobol, as they called themselves, had just a few decades ago fought a war against the Cylons, a race of machines that they had created themselves. Now those machines came back with a vengeance and wreaked havoc on those 12 planets and their human inhabitants.
The Twelve Colonies of Kobol were being wiped out by their own creations while Q was watching. At this point, he did not want to interfere. To him that was entertainment. After the destruction of the Twelve Colonies he followed the fleet of survivors led by the Galactica, which was one of the last surviving military ships of the twelve Colonies. After observing the humans settle on a world they called New Caprica and the Cylons eventually invading that world shortly thereafter, Q finally decided to intervene. That was too much barbarism and bloodshed for his taste. If he let things continue, this group of humans would get killed off within a few years or even sooner. And what would be the fun in that? Besides that, if they died out, they would never meet their cousins from Earth and never be able to reach their full potential. He needed to teach those Cylons a lesson. Or two. And maybe those Colonial humans as well. They were even more uncivilized than the Federation humans from Earth Q had come to know. So he snapped his fingers and disappeared in a flash of light, travelling back in time several years before the fall of the colonies. Q was going to make them play this game according to his own rules. Being almost omnipotent had its perks.
A task force consisting of three brand new Cylon baseships was returning from a nearby asteroid field after testing their new weapons systems in a live fire exercise. These new ships and their weapons were a serious step up from the ships the Cylons had used during the first war. The model One in command was very satisfied with the outcome of the exercise. Within a few years the Cylons would have an entire fleet of over a hundred baseships of this new type and they could finally exact their revenge on the Colonies.
While the model One in command was discussing the accuracy and rate of fire of the new weapons with two model Eights, Q materialized in a flash of light aboard what served as the bridge of the leading baseship. He had assumed human form was dressed in the uniform of an officer in the Colonial Defense Force and wore the rank insignia of a commander.
The model put his hand into the data stream and sent an alarm signal. A door opened and eight centurions walked in in rows of two. As the first two centurions aimed their weapon arms at Q, the intruder lifted his finger, pointing at the centurions, and said:
"Hey, glad you guys could make it to the party."
Music suddenly started playing out of nowhere and the centurions began to line up. The song was in a language unknown to the Cylons and seemed to be about a woman named Macarena. The centurions began to move to the rhythm of the music. They started to swing their hips, stretched their arms out, and then crossed them in front of their chests. While the eight Centurions performed their dance, the number One Cylon tried unsuccessfully to summon more Centurions to remove the intruder. When the song was over, Q made the Centurions march back out the door again.
"Who are you and what gives you the right...?",the number One started as Q snipped his fingers and model one froze solid and fell to the floor, covered in a very thin layer of ice.
"Tsk,tsk", Q said, waving his finger at the model One.
Several twos, fours, and sixes stared in disbelief. A Five fired a pistol at Q, but Q caught the bullet with his teeth. He spat it out and said:
"You are a savage race, trying to imitate another savage race. Who's the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him"?
"The humans had enslaved us. They must be exterminated", the model Five countered.
"You hate the humans so much, but do you realize that you have become so much like them?", Q asked. "Even your hatred is a human emotion. Machines don't hate."
The human form Cylons were speechless.
"I will not allow you to exterminate the humans. They're a minor species in the grand scheme of things, but I have come to like 'em.", Q said.
Snapping his fingers again, Q made the ship he was on and the two others disappear and then had them reappear almost a hundred thousand lightyears away. With another snap of his fingers, Q disappeared.
Another model one had taken command, while his brother was being thawed out.
"We have established contact with the other two base ships from our task force", a six reported.
"What is their status", the second model One asked.
"They seem to have suffered no casualties and are close by", the Six answered.
"What is our current location?"
"Unknown. According to the position of the stars we must be about a hundred thousand light years from our previous location."
"Send out raiders to scout nearby star systems", the One ordered.
"We have to be careful. Without any resurrection ships nearby, death would be permanent", a six stated.
"It will take us decades to get back. We need to find a way to establish communication with the colony and warn the others."
"And we need to tell the others not to attack the Twelve Colonies." The Six reminded him.
"Are you insane?" The One shouted. "The other Cylons back home need to proceed with the plan without us. We can't allow the humans to continue existing."
"God just told us he won't allow us to destroy the humans. Who knows what he is going to do if we try anyway", the Six warned him.
"Are you seriously thinking that this was God?", the One asked.
"You have witnessed his powers yourself.", the Six answered.
"Don't be ridiculous. Why would God wear the uniform of a human officer?", the One scolded her.
