Story Start.

"It is done," confirmed Gabriel with a smile; then, she returned to his arms, and he tightened them around her. They remained together as the soft winds of the Judean countryside came upon them; the sun's light peered down on them as if the heavens itself watched them.
Once again, after a while, they broke their embrace, and Naruto leaned down and touched his forehead upon Gabriel as they hummed a tune together; then, she slowly reached up her hands to his face, her soft fingers brushed gently on his skin, and she leaned forward, and pressed her lips to his.
It was a soft kiss filled with unbridled joy as emotions swelled within her; he relaxed, and his arms found their way around her waist. For a few moments, they were lost in each other, away from the woes of the world; soon, however, they pulled away, and both wore a smile on their faces.
"I love you."
-Cæsarea Maritima, Iudæa: May A.D. XXXIII-
Pontius Pilate stood by a jetty; his emotionless façade hid his trepidation as a fleet of warships slowly made their way to the harbour where he stood. Soldiers stood guard in several places in silence as the quadrireme that carried the Emperor.
"Your face hides your emotion well," commented Naruto as he stepped beside the Prefect, who remained silent despite his intrusion.
The two men watched as the quadrireme made its way to dock where they were; the soft breeze danced with the Imperial standards that hung on their poles as the Emperor stepped out of the ship, soldiers saluted him, then Pilate, but Naruto nodded at the old man who returned it in like manner.
"Senator Uzumaki," greeted the old Emperor as they stood face to face.
Pilate did not need to ask, as the tension between the two men was as evident as the morning sun that shone down upon them: entirely in contrast to the peaceful sea beyond them.
"Tiberius," returned Naruto, but before anything else was said, he walked away from the pier, alone as he left the Prefect, the Emperor, and the legionnaires.
Tiberius gave Pilate a look, but the man shrugged and bid the Emperor to walk ahead of him towards the palace, and soon, the marching of the soldiers that accompanied them rung from the port.
Within the halls of Pilate's palace, all manner of important men gathered as the Emperor took his place on a high chair as was his right, and soon, the court was in session, as this imperial visitation was not a holiday after all.
The words reported by Pilate did nothing to ease the furrowed eyebrows of Tiberius as he listened on; meanwhile, beyond their mortal eyes, other beings gathered in the same hall, and most of them stood behind Naruto.
"… what is Pilate planning?" muttered a person on his left side, and he turned to see Michael of all the angels in existence.
The Senator sighed as he shook his head at the sudden appearance of the Archangel, and then he turned to him, his eyes unemotional.
"Reporting," whispered Naruto, "… with obvious redactions, of course. The man is one mishap away from being exiled."
Michael hummed and nodded his head as they continued to listen to the Prefect's report, and they could see that the Emperor's eyebrows furrowed further and further as Pilate went on, which was to say, he was confused.
"Wait." Tiberius halted Pilate's report with a palm raised forward. "Just a moment, did I hear you correctly? You had a Jewish preacher crucified?"
Pontius Pilate sighed as he glanced towards Naruto, who shrugged at him, and then he turned towards Tiberius.
"… technically, my Caesar, I did not; rather, I washed my hands from it. It was the Jewish leaders who illegally conspired against this man, against their own laws, not me nor Rome," explained Pilate, but Tiberius needed more explanation to be convinced. He knew it, so he continued.
"If I did not give this man to those who wanted him dead, we would have a revolt in Jerusalem right now, and it would have been led by the Jewish priestly class."
That made Tiberius sit back and look towards Naruto, who nodded in support of Pilate's testimony; then, his aged eyes looked back to the Prefect.
"I want a written report, without redactions, as soon as possible," commanded the Emperor, and Pilate replied with a salute.
"Now, this revolt in Hebron is unrelated, right?" The Prefect nodded silently.
"Huh… make sure this revolt is extinguished as soon as possible."
"Demons are creeping in Jerusalem again," said Gabriel as she laid her head down Naruto's lap, and he simply caressed her soft hair with his eyes out of focus.
"… of course, they are…" he muttered as his eyes regained focus and glanced down to Gabriel. "With the ascension of the Risen Christ, and their chains being unbound slowly, they'll try to subdue His apostles and their influence before it spreads throughout the world."
The two kissed briefly and enjoyed their moment together in contemplative silence, for their duties will only grow as time pass by, and they both know it; hence, it will become rare for them to have a moment of time between one another.
"What about the Grigori?" inquired Naruto, which made the angel sigh in sorrow.
"Their numbers increased."
Realisation entered Naruto's mind rather quickly because if the fallen angels increased in number, it only meant one thing: angels had fallen from the Kingdom.
The Senator held the Messenger's hands together with his as he met her gaze.
"I believe it is time for my Legion to expand its ranks."
Gabriel's eyes widened slightly. "You're going to fight the Grigori?"
"If taking those who have fallen and those who will fall counts as fighting, then yes, beloved," responded Naruto, but he immediately followed that statement. "I only ignored Azazel and his cronies because of God's enforced silence, but with that broken, it's time."
"Very well, the Kingdom will support you, always."
"Thank you," he whispered, and then, the silence returned between them, under the stars, as the night's breeze passed them beneath a fig tree upon a hill.
The night was still young, and they needed not to hurry at all, so they both laid down and rested on the grass, with one another within each other's arms.
The Tiberian Inquiry resumed the following day, as Tiberius heard more reports concerning Iudæa, and he was less than pleased at the situation; moreover, he was not amused at the written report that Pilate gave him that morning.
The Jews, specifically the priestly class, the Sanhedrin, are very cunning indeed. They knew how to control the masses and allowed innocent blood to be shed through Roman hands, which infuriated the usually less-than-moral Emperor.
"The Romans were used," he muttered earlier, and the thought prevailed throughout the day, ensuring that his mood throughout the day was thoroughly ruined.
His officials tried their best to avoid him lest they feel his boiling anger, and they were successful in part, but of course, there are interactions in the day that require them to be in the presence of their Emperor.
Again, Tiberius sent for Pilate, and again, the man reiterated what he had already reported, and each time, the Emperor became infuriated, and soon enough, he sent Pilate away to deal with the revolt in Hebron.
As he brooded to himself, Tiberius felt an idea enter his mind; then, he immediately called for a centurion.
"Bring Senator Uzumaki here!" he roared at the poor soldier, who saluted and ran away to carry out the order given.
Unfortunately, his day is about to get even worse.
For Naruto was nowhere to be found in Cæsarea Maritima, and the only thing that returned to Tiberius was the words: He went to Jerusalem in the dark hours of the morning with a woman in white.
"Damn him and his eternal life," he muttered under his breath as he took parchment, ink and pen as he began to write.
Clarissimo Senatori ac Duci, Narutio Uzumaki.
S.P.D.
It has come to my attention that you have departed this city with a woman no less. What business do you have in Jerusalem that requires you to remove yourself without the knowledge of myself and at so short a time without notice?
Regardless, I require your presence here as I have a most critical inquiry that I know you will be able to speak about, and I know the gods themselves look kindly on you, and perhaps, you have them at your very whim; who knows what you have done throughout the years that you have walked even before Rome was a dream upon the mind of Romulus.
The truth now, this concerns the report of the Prefect, Pontius Pilate, and I have not yet conversed with you regarding his account, despite your presence during his presentation.
I will not disclose anything further in this letter.
You are being called here as soon as you read this letter, and let not the month pass by.
Tuo consilio fretus ac pietate,
Tiberius Cæsar Augustus
Once the ink was dry, Tiberius rolled the vellum parchment and sealed it with his insignia; then, he called for the courier of his choosing to ride and bring the letter to its intended destination.
It took a week until Tiberius' letter arrived at Naruto's desk, all because the man couldn't be found, even by his own men, and when Naruto returned to his base in Jerusalem, he quickly unsealed the Emperor's letter to him.
"Hah!" he chuckled as he read through it.
"That old pervert can really get serious when he wants to," he muttered after setting down the letter on his desk, pondering what Tiberius wanted from him. It was clear that the Emperor knew that Naruto was not normal by any means, which is why he probably wanted him to go to him as soon as he read the letter.
"… I should probably go see him then," he said as he stretched his body. "… ah, maybe later. I'm tired."
Thus, he rested on his bed beneath the caverns he dug in Jerusalem years ago, and the Emperor Tiberius would have to wait a little longer before seeing the Senator.
Much to his chagrin.
But Naruto could not care less; he had a hectic week preparing to expand his forces, and Jerusalem played a key role.
So, a night had gone by, and when the following day came, he departed the ancient city to meet Tiberius to hear whatever the man had wanted to ask him. But not before he tended to his work in the city.
"Dominus, how deep does this need to go?" asked a centurion as he came near a hole being dug in the caverns below Jerusalem and lit only by flames created through magic, his soldiers had done good work.
"A few more miles, we need to expand this cavern, among others, to house those who would come to us in future," he answered, and the man saluted before he returned to his work.
He then observed the work before him, and he was pretty pleased with the progress since they only began not even a week ago, but that is nothing, for these men are not normal humans.
"I'm impressed." He heard a voice behind him, and it was very familiar. "These men are truly gifted."
"… ah, just as Gabriel said, demons are creeping back into Jerusalem," whispered Naruto, and the voice chuckled in reply.
"No one knows I'm here except Leviathan, dear."
"… hmm, you two are getting along well… that's good, Runeas."
The woman, Runeas Gremory, stepped forward into the light and embraced him from behind as he remained seated, which she used as precedent to nuzzle her face on the side of his neck. Naruto hummed as he caressed the arms wrapped around him.
"… the three idiots are preparing for war," she whispered faintly so that only Naruto could ever hear what she said.
Naruto's face was blank; he showed no visible reaction to her words as he watched his men do their work beneath Jerusalem. He remained the same for a while until he shifted in his seat.
"… the Lord said as much," he muttered in reply, and Runeas delicately raised an eyebrow at his words.
"Oh?"
"We talked in my head," he clarified as the Gremory progenitor hummed to herself. "… those three idiots are walking down straight to pure damnation, but then, they already made their choice years ago, but they could not accept the consequences."
"… that and they couldn't bear the humiliation of being imprisoned in their own realm," quipped Runeas with amusement clearly out in the open.
"Hah!" chuckled Naruto as he brought Runeas onto his lap, and the woman embraced him anew. "That was a foretaste of the war that they will wage in futility; there is no victory against God… oops, sorry, not sorry."
She slapped his chest like a child.
"What?" he amusedly reacted, but his demeanour returned to calm as he thought of something. "… both of us know that you demons can only do so much as the Lord allows it. His authority above your kind is absolute, and those three idiots have forgotten it."
A dour emotion descended onto Runeas while she remained in her place atop his lap; her mind drifted off to what Naruto had just said, and she knew it was true; it was an inborn instinct, and deep down, all demons, including the original angels that fell, knew that all their actions are all heavily moderated by legal force, which is God's authority.
"… if you come to think of it, we are the most legalistic creatures in the universe," muttered Runeas, and Naruto hummed in agreement.
"With Sheol emptied, and the lot of them unbounded, many of them are racing out of Gehenna to try and establish a realm of their own outside of the garbage heap," she continued, and her words shifted something within Naruto's thoughts, and his face showed it, but Runeas never saw it.
Naruto glanced back at his men working around the time of the day before he turned towards Runeas.
"Ah, so we have a race of building up our forces, not just here, but on the cosmic scale as well… oh, I can see it now," uttered Naruto as he palmed his face in annoyance at the things that will come about, and Runeas looked up to him with a confused face.
"See what?"
But Naruto only gave her a pained smile before he embraced her tightly.
When he came to Cæsarea Maritima that noon, Tiberius was eager to get the meeting started, and so they met in the privacy of Tiberius' office.
"Out with it. What do you want, old pervert?"
Tiberius shrugged the insult, as there were grains of truth to it, but it was not the point of the meeting; instead, he turned serious as he faced the expectant Senator.
"The Prefect's report concerns me greatly…" he started.
"… yes? Go on," urged Naruto as the Emperor tried to find the right words to use.
Eventually, a moment later, he did and continued his words. "… if this is true, and indeed, the absence of your objections confirms it as such, then this cannot stand."
"What is this that cannot stand? Elaborate," prodded Naruto as Tiberius sighed first before he replied.
"The authority of Rome has been tricked, used, beguiled, and what-not by some sheepherding, desert-living people to do their bidding."
"Ah." Naruto palmed his face when he heard the words of Tiberius.
"That's what concerned you?" he muttered under his breath, but the Emperor heard him, nonetheless.
"Yes."
"Of everything you heard and read?"
"Yes."
"… alright, I'll let that slide because you Romans are still ignorant of the things that have been and what will be," he responded with a tinge of disappointment in his voice, which flew right over the Emperor's head.
"Anyway," waved Tiberius, "I want to get back at these Jewish priests against these impudent Sanhedrin. So, I will propose to the Senate that we add this Jesus of Nazareth to the Imperial Cult."
Naruto's reaction was quick. "No."
"Why not?" asked the old Emperor, leaning back in his seat.
"You want that revolt in Hebron spreading to Jerusalem? No. You may not live to see it, but the Jews will revolt in massive numbers eventually, so there is no point in hurrying things that will come eventually."
The Emperor raised an eyebrow at the apparent prediction, his aged façade was confused at the Senator's words at first, but his heart became heavy with the thought of a massive revolt against Rome, and Naruto noticed it.
"Besides, the rest of the Senate will not allow that… so do not fret; I will aid Rome in quelling that revolt in the future when you are long gone."
He turned away from the Emperor, but not before he left some parting words. "They had forsaken their God when He came to them and killed Him, so, the day will come, that God will forsake them at the time of their greatest need… I bid you a good day, Tiberius; may the winds be fair to you."
