Chapter 15

Ginny showed Harry the potion vial and no he understood his wife's cryptic remarks. "I…I want his baby, but I can't…."

"Shh," he pulled her into a hug. "It's okay. There's no rush, let me look into a few things, okay?"

"Okay," she agreed, clinging to Harry who rocked her gently until she fell asleep and he placed her in her bed before looking in on his son who was sleeping peacefully. The next morning, he went to the hospital.

Ginny waited with bated breath as Luna preformed the scan until the blond smiled widely. She was pregnant. She took out the potion and drank it, altering her baby's parentage from Harry Potter to Neville Longbottom. And Harry hadn't even needed to touch her all thanks to medicine. The explanation had been strange, but they had collected a sample from Harry and implanted it inside her. In eight months there would be a new Longbottom heir. There was very little chance of anything going wrong, her magic would protect her baby and nurture it, that was why few witches ever miscarried.

Harry walked through 'his' section of the village, inscribing runes as he went. Luna and Hermione were doing the same, each taking a third of the village and surrounding wall, while Ginny watched the children. By the time they were done Konoha would be the most protected village in all the Elemental Nations. Nothing would be able to breach the walls except maybe one of the biju. There would be an intent-based ward as well, ensuring no one meaning harm would be able to enter the village, stopping any possible invasion before it could begin. Some of the wards would be useless in the Wizarding world, too easily taken down by a half competent wizard, but ninja weren't wizards.

Kakashi knew what they were doing and was all for it. He had lived through the last war after all, he also knew that eventually another would break out. Their actions would keep his family safe when it happened.

Ginny frowned as she saw a group of older children chasing a younger one and not in play. She knew those sorts of looks from Hogwarts and a good number of the Slytherin's. she walked after them as quickly as she could in her condition and found they had cornered the other child. "Hey!" She shouted and several of the kids turned to see a furious redheaded woman descending on them…. they didn't stick around. She shook her head and slowly approached the child. "Hey there, you okay kiddo?" She moved to kneel down in front of…him. The little face raised, and she smiled as she took in brilliant blue eyes and odd marks on his face, like whiskers. "Hi, my name is Ginny, what's yours?"

"Nar'to." The small body mumbled.

"Where are your parents sweetie?"

He shrugged. "Got none."

"Well then, you better come home with me and we'll get you cleaned up." She bit back a groan as she picked him up and began to walk home with the shocked child. As soon as she was home she went to work gently cleaning him up and then went and transfigured some clean clothes out of his sight. "What would you like to eat?"

"Ramen!"

She laughed at his reaction but got some out and set to work preparing it. Harry always made sure the pantries were well stocked, cooking was one of the few chores he had actually enjoyed as a child. Poor boy, she knew from Harry that being an orphan was horrible and it appeared he was picked on by older children. "Where do you live?"

"Orpha..nage."

An orphanage that was perhaps not doing everything for him. First guess would be younger than little Shikamaru and his friends, but she had the sick feeling they were of an age. He yawned, and she smiled at the cute sight before picking him up and depositing him in one of the guestrooms. "Get some sleep sweetie," she sat and ran her fingers through bright blonde locks till he fell asleep. She then went to find Harry and Kakashi.

Sarutobi looked up as his secretary admitted Kakashi, Potter and Longbottom, the young widow obviously pregnant. "Good afternoon, what brings you all here?"

"Uzumaki Naruto," Kakashi answered. He had stayed away from Sensei's son, unable to handle his grief and then busy with his own new family. He had thought the boy would have been adopted and yet Ginny had found him wandering alone form the orphanage. He had not expected to find him small for his age, not speaking as well as his age mates and being bullied by older children. Getting him to talk had been hard until Harry stepped in and he didn't want to think about what that meant about his newest friends' childhood.

"What about Naruto?" the Sandaime straightened, staring at them. Ginny and Harry explained what had happened and what they had coaxed out of the child, watching the growing anger on Sarutobi's face.

"Why hasn't he been adopted?" Kakashi asked and Sarutobi sighed.

"Because the only ones interested were planning on using him and I could not allow that. Those his parents wanted all turned him down, you were too young, his Godfather is never in the village…the orphanage was the last resort."

"Why would people want him to use? Were his parents famous?" Harry asked, eyes narrowed, his childhood was becoming eerily familiar.

Sarutobi could easily sense Potter's building anger but wasn't sure why, he saw young Ginny take his hand and squeeze. Potter was a noble…and an orphan according to the paperwork he had submitted. "Yes, his parents were very well known, his Father especially had many enemies who would love to learn of Naruto's existence."

"We'll adopt him!" Ginny announced, and the three men looked at her. "Who better to teach him how to deal with unwanted fame and danger?" She looked at Harry who rolled his eyes.

"He doesn't have an insane, snake loving, immortality obsessed dark lord after him, does he?" Harry asked and Sarutobi nearly swallowed his pipe.

"You know of Orochimaru?" he demanded.

"Who? I was refereeing to Tom Riddle, the maniac who killed my parents and spent almost two decades trying to kill me."

"I see…"

"Joint custody between the Potter's and Hatake's could work?" Harry offered, Ginny was considered part of the Potter clan and she wasn't complaining about it.

Sarutobi frowned, he knew Kakashi would ensure his Sensei's son was raised well and there was definitely more to his wife and her family than normal civilians. "Very well…on a probationary period."

The probationary period became permanent within six months, Naruto thriving among the growing families as Ginny gave birth to a son, Neville William Longbottom and a daughter, Molly Augusta. Twins ran in the Prewitt line. A year later Luna had a daughter, Dorea Lily, for Harry's Grandmother and Mother. Ten months later Hermione too had a child, this time a son, named Sakumo Dan Hatake for both their Father's.

When her twins were two Ginny remarried Yamanaka Santa much to Harry's happiness and relief, he had been worried she would refuse the chance to marry again as many widows in the Wizarding world did. Two years after the marriage she gave birth to another son.

Naruto grew up well taught and was not the dead last in his Academy class. The Uchiha clan massacre and attempted coup never happened thanks to the wards the magicals had placed around the village. Itachi did alert the Hokage and he eventually summoned Clan Head Harry Potter who admitted to the work they had done to protect the village. The adult Uchiha vanished with magical help and the children raised by those who remained or the new orphanage that the Potter's ran. Sasuke still had his big brother and still ended up on Naruto's team as did Sakura with Kakashi as their much more serious sensei.

Orochimaru's invasion never happened, the armies gathered but could not breach the walls. Traps were activated to thin the numbers and capture others. When Sarutobi stepped down six months later the hat passed to Kakashi, proud sensei to Team 7 and father of four. Hermione was very happy to have her husband in the village 24/7, even if one of their children was a genin and another attending the Academy. Hermione was the magic teacher for the children, with Harry as the practical tutor. The Potter Clan had a seat on the civilian council and had close ties to several ninja clans. Yuriko and Naruto ended up dating and marrying when she was seventeen. Sirius James married a cousin of Shikamaru when he was eighteen. Over the years the magical children married into various ninja clans, strengthening Konoha even further as magic began to spread into the clans.

Harry watched it all, hiding beneath glamour's. Only Luna had ever known the legend of the Hallows and its connection to the Potter family cloak. He watched as Kakashi stepped down and passed the hat to Naruto who had taken his Godfather's place as Toad Sage a few years earlier. All the sannin were dead of war or age. Kakashi passed peacefully in his sleep, a blessing for a shinobi, just like his predecessor the Sandaime. Akatsuki too had faced the magical protections and even with the power of several biju had failed, the Master of Death had stood against them, powering the village protections and the group had fallen to the loyal ninja of Konoha. Kakashi was not the first of those close to him to pass but after him they really began dying, old for shinobi but not by magical standards. They all rallied around Hermione and then eventually Ginny as they lost their spouses and even their non-magical children.

In the end Luna was the last to leave him, smiling and promising to send his love to the others. With her death he vanished from public life, shinobi were living longer thanks to magic but none as long as him. In the end, only Naruto was left of the children, Kyuubi extending his life to extend its own. He eventually stepped down and passed the hat on to Harry's grandson and the two men left to explore the worlds until eventually even Naruto passed, leaving only Harry with Death trailing after its Master, unwilling to claim him.

But not even Death could keep the world turning forever and Harry smiled as he saw Luna come to bring him home after so many millennia. His one true love had waited as she had promised.
