I'm back! Like I said, I'm gonna be popping these chapters out fairly quickly. It's crazy to think that August will be FIVE YEARS since I began writing Dead Inside and now Saving Gold. It started as just a random story with no plot or end game in 2013 and my husband found it on my computer. It was terrible but, he really enjoyed the idea of it. So, I rewrote a lot of it and posted it to here. I'm overwhelmed by the reviews from you guys, the fanart on DeviantArt, and all the messages I get. Thank you, thank you, thank you guys for not giving up on this 26 year old momma and Sonic fan. It means the world to be able to post my fan fics.
I've also started to write a fantasy story with my husband that is ALL ORIGINAL. Eventually, I plan on entering it in the NaNoWriMo and FictionPress. So if you're interested in reading some original content, be sure to follow me on DeviantArt. And I'll eventually post links to my profile on here as well.
And speaking of terrible, original Dead Inside, I will eventually rewrite Dead Inside as well! There's a lot of grammar issues, some cheasy lines, and a few plot holes I've managed to fix in Saving Gold but, I want to fix them entirely. So, keep a look out for a remastered version of Dead Inside. I just want to perfect it as much as I can. It's my baby XD
Here's CHAPTER 20! GUYS! I've BEEN WAITING to write this chapter. I keep talking about the turning point in this story and IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING! But. I'll shut up now and let you read ;)
(AGAIN A REMINDER TO PAY ATTENTION TO TIMELINES AND DATES)
Chapter 20: Blood Rose
May 15th, 2:47 am (Time of the Peractio)
Gold Star Rose's Point of View:
I choke a sob as I sit on the shower floor, blood rinsing off of me and down the drain. But, it's not my blood.
I should've known I would be too emotionally absorbed into this mission to pull it off. I knew that today and tomorrow will be extremely hard. It's been ten years. Ten years since I watched a bullet fly into my mother's head. Ten years since I watched my father scream in anguish and hold my mothers limp body against his own as he gave up all hope and Lord Ivo forced his robotic arm through my father's chest.
Ten years since I was informed, at five years old, that I held the key to our world's final hope. I had a great source of power, rebirthed within me from my mother. At that moment, Lord Ivo told me I too would die. I remember a warmth leaving my body as he took The Healing Star from me. It's a warmth I've never felt again. I remember falling unconscious and bullets being fired as the rest of my family and friends were shot down.
I woke up to the red eyes of my Godfather, Shadow. He had found me unconscious and I was reminded what had happened. His words, "No need to sugar coat it…everyone is gone…Lord Ivo has won…" still haunt me in my nightmares.
And upon the realization that I had lost everything, my true ability was awakened.
Suddenly, an overwhelming pain raced through my chest. It was the familiar pain I had only felt twice before, but much more fierce. My emotions spun completely out of control. I screamed as my blood boiled hot and I remember the look on Shadow's face as a dark red aura enveloped my body and my fur changed color. I felt nothing but hate and sadness…two emotions a five year old should never feel.
In that moment, I became the monster I call: Blood Rose.
Blood Rose slept deep within me and The Healing Star acted as a gate for my soul, preventing her from escaping. Blood Rose was also the reason I didn't die when The Healing Star was taken from me. Some details are still a mystery, but apparently my powers as Blood Rose are also latched to my soul. Any other host would have surely died.
Shadow managed to calm me down and I changed back into my normal self. He still won't tell me how he did it…all I remember is blacking out. I think he may have knocked me out somehow. Whatever he did, it was the right thing to do. Apparently, I had begun to form a large ball of dark energy. Shadow said he had never seen such great power in such a short amount of time. I went from believing I was without abilities, to being able to manifest terrible destruction.
And apparently…this is my dad's fault.
It was that day that I learned the true beginning of the war. Lord Ivo had found the X-Emerald's and learned that my mother then held The Healing Star. He needed The Healing Star to form The Peractio. Unfortunately, at this same time, my father had too began to struggle with an ability like mine, which he called Dark Sonic. Dark Sonic was powerful, ruthless, and destructive, but still weak compared to the power of The X-Emerald's. Dark Sonic was also released by dark emotions and in the heat of war, loss, pain there was also an overwhelming love my mom and dad had for one another. And one night, Dark Sonic and my mother performed an intimate act of love and I was conceived.
I guess because my dad was in his darkened form, those powers developed in me as well.
From that point on, Shadow took me in and raised me, both of us hiding from the Robotnik Empire. He helped me contain Blood Rose, she rarely came out. Until, I became a teenager. I began to realize that…maybe I could do something. Maybe, this burden I carry could do some good. Maybe I could harness my abilities and get good at them.
Maybe, I wasn't evil. I was a hero like my parents.
Dad ALWAYS made sure I knew when I was young the difference between good and evil. AND, that there was good and evil in everyone. I think it was his way of telling me that he too had dealt with mistakes as Dark Sonic. I didn't realize that until I was older.
So…I started trying to unleash Blood Rose, little by little, to try and learn what powers I truly possessed. It angered Shadow. We started fighting constantly about it. And before long, I ran away.
I decided I would try my hardest to rise up against Lord Ivo. Take back this world. Shadow had taught me how to use a gun and how to fight. I found when I was ten just how strong I was. I was also fast. Maybe not like my folks, but definitely more powerful than anybody alive today. Especially since Lord Ivo began removing abilities from anthropoids.
One by one, I began to take down G.U.N camps. I never released Blood Rose on them though. Hell, I never got angry enough to do so. Soon, I found Silver and Blaze and we became the only resistance against Lord Ivo. We, The Children of Chaos, had yet to be defeated. I could see a glimmer of hope. Maybe we could someday, with enough followers, form the A.P.M again and take Mobius back.
But then, I started getting sick.
On the eve on my 15th birthday, I came down with a high fever and started to vomit violently. I had to lie in bed for days. Blaze and Silver were so scared. And honestly, I thought I was going to die. I began to have what I thought were memory lapses, and then I would wake to find that my body had been rapidly transforming from Blood Rose to my normal self. She was trying to take over.
Finally, Blaze talked me into traveling to see Shadow. We were lucky I made it there alive. I was so weak and tired.
After consulting Shadow, he concluded that Blood Rose was indeed trying to take over my body permanently. My body was fighting the forces of good and evil within itself.
Until tonight, I thought I had won. But...it's been ten years. My heart is tired. I just want Mobius to be free again.
Tonight at the G.U.N base, Blaze and I had made it to the location where they were keeping some rebels. I don't know what happened. One minute I was fighting a G.U.N soldier, my hands pushing his rifle against his torso to prevent it from turning on me. I was already feeling terrible and weaker than normal.
And then, he managed to jab me in the stomach with his elbow and then hit me across my face with the butt of the gun.
All went black.
When I woke, everybody was dead. Even the people we went in to rescue. Blood spilled across the floor, creating a river from body to body. I couldn't do anything but run away.
And now, I'm here. Waiting for Silver and Blaze to get back. Who the hell knows what I'm going to say. Or what they're going to say. "I've failed..."
"GOLD! Gold, are you here?! Where are you?!"
I sigh and turn off the water, surprised we still even have access to the public water system. The apartment complex we live in is abandoned. We're not sure who owns it, but so far we've gotten away with hiding out here. Electricity and water still works so we assume someone is paying for the building but, we may have to move on soon.
I get out of the shower and wrap a towel around me just as Blaze bursts through the door, throwing her arms around me, "THERE YOU ARE!" She exclaims, sobbing.
"I'm okay Blaze—"
"But are you?!" She says, shaking my shoulders, "What the hell happened—"
"She fucking took over again, Blaze! I have no control over it! I don't even know what happened! Everything went black or red or...I DON'T KNOW."
Blaze frowns and steps back as I wipe away the heavy tears. She sits on the closed toilet lid and sighs, "Then we need to see Shadow again—"
"Like that asshole is going to do anything! He helped me control it when I was young but, this is WAY different. He barely knew how to handle my father after he got to this point. But, Sonic remembered everything! And, he still had the will to fight the darkness. I don't have any control over this."
"Then we hang tight until you're better Gold..." she says sternly, "You can't continue like this. What if you..."
She stops suddenly with pursed lips. I glare at her, "No. Say what you need to say, Blaze..."
Blaze huffs and turns away. "What if you turn on us?" she says quiet and seriously.
I shake my head and don't say anything back. I knew that's what her concern was. Probably Silver's too.
"Did I turn on you at the base?" I ask cockily.
Blaze doesn't look at me, "I honestly...hid. You were hit in the face. The next thing I knew you were screaming and you ripped that man apart. I didn't know what else to do. I yelled for you but there was no getting through to you. You created a huge ball of force and sent it flying through the room. I couldn't do anything but duck and hide. It tore everyone in the room apart, within seconds and then, you came to. And ran."
My eyes welled with even heavier tears and I drop to my knees sobbing. Blaze places a hand on my shoulder, "Gold...we're gonna figure this out. I promise..."
I sniffle and nod. "I just want to be like our parents. I just want to save this world. And the only thing I have against this evil IS evil."
There was a knock at the door, "Uh…hey guys?" we hear Silver's voice.
I huff and stand, quickly wiping away my tears before opening the door. "What?"
I see Silver's eyes widen as he looks at me in a towel. I roll my eyes, "Come on Silver. Don't be like that. We all sleep in the same bed together—"
"You're practically naked!" he says as he turns away, scoffing.
I'm not exactly the most modest of girls. I really don't care that much. For a second, I think about flashing him…but just laugh the idea off. He's a big baby.
"I was just going to let you guys know I have to go somewhere…" he says quickly, still turning away, "It's urgent."
I raise an eyebrow, "Right now? Silver…G.U.N is probably marching through the streets looking for us!"
"Well, that's not exactly my fault and this is important—"
"You wanna swing that one by me again, big guy?!" I snap as I lift a fist. The sudden movement makes my towel drop and sends Silver into a fit of gasps and embarrassment.
"GOLD! WHAT THE HELL!" he screams as he throws his hands over his eyes. I make a dramatic pose before I laugh hysterically and wrap myself back up.
"Thanks Silver. Really needed the laugh!" I exclaim just as Blaze walks out of the bathroom, giving me a harsh look of disapproval.
Silver, now bright red, huffs and walks towards the door. "For Chaos' sake…I'm leaving now!"
"Wait!" I shout, stopping him, "Silver, where are you going?"
He turns back around, still avoiding eye contact with me, "I…I actually can't tell you."
My eyes widen and I look at Blaze. She steps up to him, grabbing his arm, "Silver…why not?"
Silver glances between the two of us. I glare at him. I can tell he's hiding something. "Silver. What is it?"
"I really can't tell you," he says timidly, "Just know that…I…I had a vision..."
"Another one?" Blaze asks, "Is that why you were unconscious earlier?"
"Yes…" he says as he gazes forward, his mind elsewhere, "And…I can't tell you much. But Gold, I do need to know…something from you…it will point me in the right direction…"
I raise an eyebrow. I've never seen Silver so serious. His strong sense of justice has always been admirable but he's never been one to go off on his own; usually he's stuck the Blaze's side like a puppy dog.
"Okay…what is it Silver?"
"I need you to tell me if you know of an immortal life form?"
I smirk and stiff a laugh, "Well duh. Shadow—"
"OF COURSE!" Silver exclaims, beginning to pace, "Why didn't I realize that immediately! He was able to use them in the past!"
I glance at Blaze, who looks concerned, "Silver…Shadow was able to use what?"
I see Silver gulp and shake his head. I cross my arms. "Why can't you tell us?" I ask harshly.
"I just can't, Gold…" he looks towards the door. A strong adjustment in his stance comes over him. He looks determined, focused, and yet strangely, a bit frightened, "I may have a chance at changing something. If I tell you both, it will ruin everything. So please, just trust me. I'll be back as soon as I can…"
He walks up to me and places a hand on my bare shoulder, "Gold…I'm gonna make things right."
And with that, he teleports out of the room. I huff and turn to Blaze, shaking my head, "I hope he knows what he's doing…"
"Me too…" she says, "He looked—"
"Scared…like he had seen a ghost…"
"His vision must've been something of great importance…"
I shrug, "Silver's visions as of late are of our freedom. Of a new Mobius. Of the Mobius we want back. Whatever it was this time, we have to try and trust him."
Blaze nods in agreement. I leave her in thought to put my clothes back on. I wear a black cropped top, allowing my midriff to show and be free. It makes movement easier. I also wear black garter pants with black and silver boots. I have a silver utility belt I wear with a holster for my gun and small pockets for ammo. I slip on my black fingerless gloves and begin to comb my spines.
Blaze rushes into the bathroom, "Gold. G.U.N. Outside the apartment." she whispers quickly.
I immediately crouch down and crawl to a window, peeking out. Four floors below, I can see at least twenty gunmen. One begins pointing in several directions and giving out orders.
"You don't think they followed me do you?" I whisper back to Blaze and she crouches down beside me. Before she can answer, we see four gunmen enter the building.
My heart leaps to my throat, "We gotta go, NOW."
Blaze grabs our only pack, full of extra food, blankets and ammo and throws it over her shoulder. I grab my gun and we slowly open the front door. I peer down the flight of stairs in front of me and see the gunmen below. Blaze crouches behind me. I make a motion to go higher, knowing of a fire escape on the seventh floor that is coincidentally broken and hanging against the building beside it. We've discussed this escape plan before. If we can get to the broken ladder, we can easily get over to the next building and climb to the roof. On the opposite side of that building lies the outer borders of Robotropolis and then, a vast forest. The forest would provide enough hiding places for a while, it's where we were before moving to the city.
We begin to race up the stairs and we hear the soldiers below begin to climb as well. A few shots are fired and we duck our heads and press on. Finally, on the seventh floor we find another abandoned apartment. Blaze burns through the door with her pyrokinesis abilities and we enter, running to the window. We can hear the soldiers getting closer, their footsteps stomping heavily.
I try to lift the window and growl when it doesn't budge. I slam my elbow through, shattering the glass. "Up there!" we hear a soldier shout.
"Move! Go!" I cry and push Blaze towards the window. She crawls through and jumps to the broken fire escape. I wait for her to balance her way across and then I do the same. Blaze kicks a window in and we jump inside just as the soldiers reach the room across the way. They fire shots at us and throw ourselves to the ground. We've entered an abandoned office building. I stagger to my feet along with Blaze and we continue running through the halls to get to the opposite side of the building.
We turn a corner and are met by ten soldiers, their guns pointed towards us in a line. I smirk and jump into the air, aiming my gun and firing. The bullet hits a soldier in the head and he falls dead, but not before his finger pulls his trigger and a bullet flies towards Blaze. She dodges, sending a wall of flame towards the men. A few of them scream as they light on fire as another charges towards me as I land on the ground. I quickly jump into a back-spring, my foot kicking the soldier in the jaw. He yelps and recovers quickly, firing at me. I quickly dodge every bullet.
As I spin back around, I race forward only to be hit with a wave of exhaustion. It makes my vision blurry and I try to fight it. The nausea comes over me again, "Damnit! NOT HERE!"
I know, in the heat of battle, I'm getting sick because Blood Rose is just begging to be released. I try hard to focus as I dodge another line of bullets, jumping off of a wall and twirling my body around the kick another soldier in the face. Blaze charges forward in a flaming, twirling tornado and scorches another couple of men.
Then, chest pain. It hits me sharply and takes my breath away. I swear, I can hear her screaming in my head, "LET ME OUT!"
Distracted by such intense pain, I don't see a bullet and it sinks into my left bicep. I gasp and stumble backwards, falling flat on my back. "GOLD!" I hear Blaze yell as soldiers surround me, their guns pointing at my head. I growl and glare at all of them, my heart racing from the unsurety of their next move.
"Don't shoot yet, men!" I hear a man say a few feet away, "We were ordered to keep this one alive…"
The men back away, keeping their guns pointed at me directly. Blaze rushes to my side, shielding me defensively.
An officer walks up, clapping his hands slowly. "You've given us quite the chase, Children of Chaos…" the officer mocks, "But…it ends here. One move and I'll give the order to end you both."
I glance at Blaze and we lift our hands to the sky. Just as I do so, I suddenly feel sick again. I can't control my bilious stomach and I topple to the ground, vomiting. The officer lifts a hand, "Hold fire!"
"Please let us go!" Blaze pleads, "She is sick! She needs a doctor!"
The officer glares down at the both of us. "Sickness will not spare you. Today, you meet your fate," he smiles wickedly, "Lord Ivo has been waiting to meet you…"
I wipe the vomit from my mouth and look at Blaze. I can tell she's a bit hesitant on what to do. If only Blood Rose WOULD come out. We could maybe get away. "Blaze…go…" I mouth the words without speaking. She shakes her head slightly. She's too loyal for her own damn good.
A soldier grabs my arm harshly and forces me up as I'm hand cuffed. I'm so weak or I would try to break free. I glance at Blaze who also gets pulled off the ground. "Blaze! Just go! Go find Silver, damnit!" I scream as I'm pushed forward.
"You fucking move, you die!" a soldier shouts.
I see Blaze huff and she rips free, sending a blast of fire outward. She jumps into the air, spinning forward and races away. "GET HER! SHOOT!" the officer yells as he grabs me. But they aren't quick enough for Blaze's impeccable speed. She jumps and crashes through a window, disappearing into the night.
I can feel Blood Rose's power surfacing as my blood boils hot once again. I close my eyes, my weakness suddenly disappearing as I give in to her strength and become overwhelmed. Everything goes black.
What only feels like seconds later, I open my eyes. I gasp as I am now on a rooftop, staring at the early morning sky. I feel disoriented and my memory of what happened is lost. I sit up and see once again, I'm covered with blood. My own this time though. The bullet wound has continued the bleed and my wrists are cut and sliced. Apparently, Blood Rose ripped my handcuffs off. "Did…did she kill all of the soldiers? Where am I now?"
I stand to my feet and shake the dizziness away. Just as my vision finally clears up, I see something shining out of the corner of my eye. Up against an air shaft, lies a deep red jewel. I cock my head in curiosity and move closer. My eyes widen as I bend down and pick it up. I've only seen a jewel like this once before. My father kept seven of them in a bag on his study desk. I haven't seen them in ten years, "A Chaos Emerald?"
I'M SO EXCITED! I finally got to introduce 15 year old Gold from the alternate timeline! And can't wait for y'all to see her character development and place in the story. BUt I feel like I'm saying too much. XD
Read and review! Thank you!
