A/N: Response to Twinkylady's Challenge

Lost in the Mail

The mail arrived on another lazy Saturday and Ororo was the only one around to receive it. There were X-men everywhere, enjoying the sunlight and the outdoors. Sorting mail, she noticed there was a letter for her, from Forge.

She slid her finger along the scratches of his penmanship. "The handwriting of an engineer," she thought. Her nail worked as a letter opener and she removed the page from its crumbled keeper. Staring at the folded paper, she choked down the tears inhaled deep and read.

Dear Ororo,

This is the hardest thing I have had to write to date. Somehow I thought this would be easy. I was hoping it would be. First I must say I love you. I always have loved you and no matter how hard I've tried to get passed that, I can't. You've made your way under my skin. I've tried to end my obsession, but I can't. I've tried to move on, but I can't seem to give up on us.

I am sorry, for all that I have done. I am especially sorry for my retraction of the marriage proposal. I was just as confused about what I wanted as you were. I was so sure of things one minute and then conflicted the next. After that, we drifted to an off again, on again relationship that drifted to limbo, but you were able to move on. You were always the strong one.

You were strong when I couldn't be

You are strong when I can't be

I love you still,

Forge

Saline drips filed down her cheeks. It had been 3 months. No one knew why. He left no letter, yet here one was, marked to the date. 3 months ago Forge used his mutant ability against himself and this letter was lost in the mail.
