365 Days of Drabbles Challenge: Prompt Used - Misunderstanding
Luna stared at the ceiling fan. "It was a horrible, horrible misunderstanding," she mumbled.
Barty sighed from the doorway. "I agree."
Luna sat up and allowed her eyes to devour him. "You're home."
Barty nodded, keeping silent as his eyes went up and down her form.
"I wasn't sure you'd come home."
"Either was I," he admitted.
"Why are we still doing this?" Luna whispered, tears falling down her pale cheeks.
Barty stayed silent, his eyes on her still form.
Luna continued as she stood up from the bed. "We scream, we fight, and we throw accusations at each other. We can't seem to get along for more than a couple of days at a time. So, answer me. Why do we do this?"
Barty finally left the doorway. "Because we love each other, and that involves pain. And when you love someone, even with all of the pain that is involved, you don't want it to stop."
"I do love you," Luna said.
"I love you, too." Barty finally came and stood in front of her, pulling her into his arms. "Maybe we should try to go easy on each other every now and then, though."
"I agree." Luna closed her eyes and breathed in his scent. She allowed his scent to take her to a happier place, one with less arguing. Maybe someday, they'd get there for real.
