Okay, so first of all, I am NOT a fan of Shingeki no Kyojin. The only thing I can claim to like is the first opening song, Guren no Yumiyaby Linked Horizon.
This short one-shot was a request from a friend of mine. His father recently died of cancer and he had been a HUGE fan of Shingeki no Kyojin.
Apparently (according to Abel, at least) before he died, his dad (Jack) had once said that he wished he could have died not from cancer, but from helping humanity like those in the Survey Corps. If not for the fact that he was paralyzed from the waist down, Abel had no doubt that Jack would have gone into the Army or something.
I am sorry if no one likes this, but as I said, I'm not a fan. It's hard for me to write about something I don't like.
(Oh, and I've heard that Levi is 34 in the current timeline, so I made Jack only 2 years younger than him. Sorry if I got Levi's age wrong.)
As a member of the Survey Corps, Jack Mata knew the danger of fighting Titans.
He had known when his father was killed by a Titan when he was only four years old.
He had known when he had watched as members of the Survey Corps had fought off Titans.
He had always known that it was a violent lifestyle.
And although it was dangerous, he had always wanted to join; he wanted to aid them in protecting humanity.
So when he came of age and he finally was able to leave his controlling mother, he did so. He became a trainee and trained as hard as he could.
When he passed, it was Levi Ackerman who became his Captain, the man whom he knew would never lead them astray.
Although Levi was not much older than he was when he first entered, Levi being 22 years old and Jack being 20, he faithfully served under the man.
Now, as he stared up at the Titan before him with a stoic look, he wondered what his mother thought of him.
He wondered if anyone from the Survey Corps would miss him.
However, he knew that when others came to retrieve his and his companions bodies, that Levi's hatred for Titans would grow even more.
As the Titan reached for him, Jack did not close his eyes and nor he did not show fear.
Long had he known that this was the way he wanted to live his life.
He knew that it was highly possible he would die this way.
He had no other wish.
If he were to die, it was to die the way he wanted.
As the Titan's mouth closed around him, crushing him, he smiled.
Even in these final moments... he could only be thankful... for how he lived and died.
Then... there was nothing.
