"We need to talk."
Damn, this can't be good.
Jesse muted the television and looked up at Valerie's tall form.
"I don't want to be 'that girl', but we've been…hooking up for a while now and after the last time we talked, I thought that we were- something more than that. You haven't said anything and I didn't at first because I wasn't sure how, but I just want to know- where do we stand?"
"We stand…..right here. I thought that we were two adults enjoying each other."
No ties right? Shit!
"I can't tell you what the future will bring," Jesse spoke trying to be as honest as he could without hurting her feelings, "but I like you and I thought that we were having a good time."
"We are… I just wanted to know if…"
You were still in love with her. Are you just passing the time with me or are you really moving on towards a future?
Valerie had taken a seat adjacent to him on the sofa in her room.
Don't look at me like that Jesse. I can't think clearly when you do stuff like that.
"If maybe, one day you could see you and me…together, like a couple or something?"
"Maybe one day," he ran a hand through his wavy locks, "I don't want to lie to you Valerie. I was pretty messed up from some stuff, but I'd like to think that I'm working through that." He took her hand, "with you."
I hope that you're being honest with yourself Jesse.
She smiled at him allowing a modem of relief to wash over her.
"Why don't we make some dinner?" she stood and he held on to her wrist.
Their eyes held for a while.
