The Return

"No One expects an angel to set the world on fire"

New York City, 2016

The apartment exploded and no one had noticed. Just down the street and yet everyone just went on as if nothing had even happened.

I stood in front of what remained of the apartment. A glimmer of light caught my attention, something shined in the charred remains. I looked closer and saw that it was a ring. In the middle, there was a stone, of a rose quartz. Being an angel of love, to me a rose quartz symbolized love. I reached down and took possession of the ring. It has been so many years since I had last seen it.

"Abrielle," A voice called, snapping me back to the present.

"Hey Bianca," I answered back to her. "What are you doing here?"

"Nothing, what about you?"

She inquired, "I sensed a disturbance in love,"

I began. "But it was a misunderstanding," I swiftly clarified. Bianca looked down to where I was kneeling down and she noticed what I held in my grasp.

"You found your ring." Excitement filled her eyes. "I know how much that ring means to you."

"Yeah I found my ring." The dullness in my voice was quite evident.

"How are you, by the way?" She added cheerfully. Seemingly she hadn't noticed.

"I'm fine, thanks. I found my ring a while back in Brooklyn when I was with Celeste. Anyway, I really must be going. It was nice to see you though, Abrielle." Bianca said as she started walking away from me.

"Bye Bianca, see ya later."

I watched Bianca cross the road and disappear around the bend.

Why was my ring found here? I pondered. What was so special about this place? I got up and and stretched my light pink wings. They had been cramped up for a while due to my disguise. Without my ring, you see, there was no possible way for me to fly. Leaving the burnt apartment, I walked away. I had never wanted to find this ring. I was content with the way things were before. But now…. Once more it resides in my palm.
