Holding out for Friday

Chapter 1
The world is ending and it's all her fault.
Calamity is coming from all directions and she's completely disorientated; the ground below her is shattering, the sea around her is thrashing, and stars are dropping out of the sin-black sky even though it's only mid-afternoon. White-hot blood thunders between her temples as she runs to get somewhere —anywhere— away from here.
She bites back her screams.
Her partner Pokemon sprints alongside her with athleticism she lacks, its helpful hand steadying her when she fumbles with her bag and trips blindly on a rock. She staggers upright with a gasped thank-you and PokeNav now in hand, sobbing in relief upon seeing their ride determinedly swimming towards them. They charge forward, barely pausing when they leap onto their aquatic friend, because they cannot afford to stop.
"Dive!"
The swimmer is already off, an air bubble swelling over its riders before it plunges underwater. The trainer clenches her eyes closed, feeling the shift in pressure, but quickly opens them again when she hears distressed Pokemon noises.
Her stomach drops. It's barely any calmer down here than it is on the surface, and her mount is clearly struggling against the currents.
"Please hold out," she begs, clinging on with her legs as she struggles to type on her rain-doused PokeNav, "We've just got to–"
Light.
...
And then there's nothing.
