"I don't think we should do this, Amycus," Rabastan said, quivering a bit where he stood.

"Why not?" Amycus questioned. "You scared?"

"Well, no, but…"

Rabastan gaped at the scene in front of him. There sat the Whomping Willow, planted only a few years before but menacing nevertheless. Amycus claimed the tree marked the entrance to Britain's most haunted structure. He planned to take Rabastan inside to see for himself.

"It's out-of-bounds." he finished.

"Who cares?" Amycus waved his hand dismissively.

"It's getting late."

"It's the middle of the afternoon."

Rabastan searched Amycus's features for any hint of hesitation, but found only determination. He took his hand and spun him so they faced each other.

"You don't want anything to happen to me, do you?" As he said it, Rabastan kept the other boy's fingers laced tightly in his.

"Course I don't."

"Then why do you insist I go in there with you? I could always wait outside for you."

Amycus's expression seemed almost bored as he shook off Rabastan's grip and said, "Because we're still young."

"What?"

Sensing confusion, Amycus explained, "Think about it, Rabastan. We have all our lives to be responsible and boring."

"Boring? I think alive is a better word. It's a stupid idea, Amycus, and you know it."

Amycus only laughed. "Stupid, huh? Well, we may as well do stupid things now. Since we can't do that forever."

"You don't do stupid things, Amycus. Besides this."

In lieu of a verbal response, Amycus swooped closer and pressed his lips to Rabastan's. Realizing what he meant by it, Rabastan pushed him away, although he laughed as he did it.

"So we can just go back to the castle now?"

Amycus grinned. "Nope." Taking Rabastan's hand, he led him into the belly of the shrieking beast.
