No Longer Holding Back

WatchTower: Forensics Lab

Once again, he waited. Like always. He waited for the perfect moment. He waited for so long, so patiently. But it was getting harder, each and every day.

"Big Blue, just confess already!" Flash exclaimed in a whiny voice "It hurts me to watch you two!"

"Don't be dramatic, Barry…" Clark muttered under his breath.

"You do know she has feelings for you, too, right?" Barry asked in a serious tone. "I mean, hello? Are you super blind to the point of actually needing those glasses? If you don't make your move soon, who knows? Maybe some-"

Clark's sudden ominous aura was enough to shut him up.

"I'm just saying. Anyway, thanks for the help. Dropping these results off to Bruce," With a heavy sigh Barry left Clark alone.

Honestly, he didn't even know what he was doing. Sure, there were these little things here and there. Little things that gave him tons of hope. Too much so, he was reluctant believe. It was too damn hard to believe. How could he? Ever since they met, Wonder Woman made it abundantly clear she was only focused on her mission. Of course there was an undeniable immediate attraction between her and Clark but neither acted on it.

He was content with just watching in awe of this wonderous woman. He dedicated himself to be by her side through every battle. Gaining trust within one another, they they could whole heartedly open up and be completely honestly with each other without any hesitation.

Though, speaking on their deeper feelings was still a line not yet to be crossed, Clark took small steps showing her. He listened to her, held her in the tightest of embraces. Diana never once thought he would take advantage of her and Clark was grateful for her openness and trust. And so... that is why he thought it was best not to show her his deeper feelings. No. He held back with all his might.

Even after 5 years, he still couldn't confess. Even though they had become so close that the public thought they were already a couple, even though Diana…has begun to show more of her interest in him, he still couldn't. He couldn't risk their friendship and making things awkward between them. She was too special and precious to him. He was good at holding back anyway given how he grew up hiding as a normal boy in Smallville.

"Kal?" Diana called from the entrance.

"Hey, Di. You okay?"

"Yes I am." She walked closer to him. "I was going to ask you the same."

"I'm fine," he said flashing his charming smile trying to assure her.

"You know, I do have a lasso to make sure you're telling the truth..." she said raising her brow.

He chuckled. "Really. I'm fine, Diana."

"Ok then…I should go..." she trailed off averting her gaze. "Helping Vanessa make sure everything is set for Julia's appreciation party. You will be there, right?"

Kal's heart started thumping, like always. Every time he saw that beautiful eyes, every time he heard that melodic voice, he became a flustered mess inside.

"Of course. 7:30 p.m. sharp tomorrow."

Diana smiled and leaned over placing a soft kiss on his cheek.

"I'll...Uhh...call you later tonight."

Diana nodded and as she was walking away, Clark watched her, mesmerized by her gracious curves.

Diana of Themyscira. She's been living in his heart, for 5 years now. He thinks back to that day they first met, when she changed everything for him. Getting to know her, he didn't feel alone anymore. She understood how it felt to be someone who didn't truly belong to one world. Usually, for both them, no matter how close it seemed they could or would get close to anyone, their was still a distance. But with each each other, without any hesitation, they were so open and honest with each other. Within a year they became so close, it was like they were inseparable.

He fell in love with her and it was an instantaneous moment that everything slotted into place. His love was too great to have existed in only one lifetime, feeling as if he had been looking for her his entire existence, and only just realised. An extraordinary feeling overcame him and he knew at that moment Diana was the keeper of his heart. He was going to prove he was worthy of her.

London: 9 p.m.

Diana was getting out the shower when her phone started to ring. She smiled already knowing who the caller was and pressed the speaker button.

"Hey, I was just getting out the shower."

All of a sudden there was a pause on the other end.

"Hello? Kal?"

Kal was trying to keep his thoughts pure.

"Hey...Di..." he cleared his thought. "Hey."

She giggled softly. "What are you doing?"

"I was working on an article...but I can't seem to find the right words right now."

"That's not like you. What's wrong?"

"My mind keeps drifting off to..."

"To what?"

"Well it's hard to explain right now."

Diana pondered for a moment. "Hmm...Is this something actually someone?"

Diana immediately picked up on Kal's hesitation.

"Who is she, Kal?"

He chuckled nervously. "I would rather talk about this in person."

"Oh really? Why? Have you talked to her?"

"I talk to her all the time."

"She doesn't know of your feelings?"

"No, not yet."

"You know I'm not much of help for dating advice. Maybe Barry or Arthur can help? I can at least be support. Have a chat with her?"

"That won't be necessary, Diana. I-"

"Oh you want to keep things secret?"

"Not that either. I mean, it's possible she won't feel the same. I don't want to make things awkward."

"Kal, you're the most charming, handsome, respectable and honorable man I know. Any woman would fall for you if given the chance to get to know you."

"Getting to know me as in like you do?"

"Yes, Kal. And most importantly you have to be completely honest as Kal-El, Superman, and Clark Kent. One truly amazing man."

Kal was speechless. "I...uhh. I didn't know you thought that highly of me, Diana. It means a lot to me especially from you."

"You didn't know? Kal, I've told you that plenty of times before. You are always there for me, always protective of me."

"I always will, no matter what, Di."

"But the woman in your life must know that she is priority. There's nothing to worry about with your best friend who also happens to be a woman, too."

"Yeah, I understand. It's getting late. You need to get some sleep."

"Okay and that goes for you, too. Maybe that will help clear your mind so you can complete your article."

He laughed. "Yeah...alright."

"Good night, Kal."

"Good night, Diana."

Hanging up, Clark sighed leaning back on his bed.

"And...I love you," he said aloud.

The next evening...

"Julia, you have my dearest friend and my mentor. You welcomed me with open arms. I can't thank you enough for all you have done."

Clark Kent couldn't take his eyes off Diana as she was giving her speech. taking in all her beauty, from her smile to her voice and the way her eyes sparkled, he knew it was time. Tonight was the night. He had made his choice and couldn't back down.

As Diana looked out to the crowd, she saw Clark. They locked eyes and Clark flashed his charming smile.

Applause continued as Diana walked off stage, She met Julia, embracing her.
"Thank you, Diana. I love you"

"I love you too, Julia."

Julia then smiled. "Clark is waiting for you."

"He is just a friend, Julia."

"Oh, sure. I would believe that if that if it weren't for you blushing, right now. But also, he was the man you were talking about when we were having our hypothetical conversation. He certainly fits the descriptions especially your fascination with his eyes."

"Julia! Please."

She laughed. "I won't say a word."

Julia and Diana walked over to Clark.

"Good evening, Clark. I'm so glad you could be here."

"Happy to be here. Congratulations, Julia."

"Thank you, Clark. So why don't you and Diana enjoy the rest of the evening together...alone."

"Julia...!" Diana gasped shocked by her forwardness.

"I'm just saying the night is young. The most here now is Harold making jokes and all of us reminiscing on our younger days...especially college."

"Are you sure, Julia?"

"Of course. Go ahead...But that doesn't mean spend the night on duty."

"No worries, Julia. Where Diana and I are going, it's quiet and a beautiful scenery at this time."

"Oh..." Julia smirked. "Enjoy you two..."

Clark smiled and nodded slightly taking Diana's hand.

Leaving out the convention center, Diana raised her brow.

"Alright, Kal...Where are we going?"

He looked back at her with a smile. "Somewhere nice and quiet. You'll love it. Trust me."

"Of course, I trust you."

Still holding hands they flew off into the night sky.

Shenandoah National Park

Shenandoah National Park is a beautiful, historic national treasure of land bursting with cascading waterfalls, spectacular vistas, fields of wildflowers, and quiet wooded hollows. With over 200,000 acres of protected lands that are haven to extraordinary wildlife.

Kal and Diana landed on Hawksbill Mountain, the highest point in the park. The winds blew peacefully.

"It's so beautiful, Kal," Diana said looking over the landscape. "Romantic even..."

He put his arm around her waist, pulling her close to him.

"I knew you would like it." He pointed up. "Look up."

"The stars...wow." She looked at him then reached over to kiss his cheek. "Thank you for bringing me here. There's still so much I have yet to see of man's world."

"I promise I'll take you wherever you want to go and we'll explore not only this world but every other world possible."

"That's so sweet of you, Kal. But you know... we can't exactly make plans like that. It would be awkward of me being a third wheel."

Kal laughed. "No, there won't be any third wheels."

Diana raised her brow. "How can that not be? Double dates?"

He smiled and cupped her cheek. "Because it will just be us."

Diana frowned confused. "I don't understand."

He wrapped both his arms around her, pulling her even closer. He smiled and leaned in capturing her lips in such a passionately, exquisite kiss.

Diana's eyes widen still confused for a second, but once she manage to process everything that was going on, she relaxed into him, slowly closing her eyes. Although part of her was still in shock and a bit hesitant, she wrapped her arms around his neck and deepened the kiss.

When the two pulled apart slowly, they stared at each other's eyes, both of them were speechless.

Diana's whole body quivered as Kal's eyes sank deeper into hers. In his eyes, Diana found adoration, caress, lust, love, everything always looked for in a man and thought would exist in dreams. Every thought she was having was being drowned out by her noisy beating heart.

After a moment, Diana bit her bottom lip than spoke in a whisper. "Making plans to travel alone together then kissing me like that...that's quite a conflict, Kal," she teased. "The woman you love is..."

She suddenly paused as Kal's mouth curved slowly into a smirk that nearly knocked the breath out of her.

"I'd be damned if I let this opportunity go," he muttered huskily and grabbed her chin. "I'm done holding back…" with that he crashed his lips onto her soft ones for another kiss.

Diana didn't object, she couldn't, it was too impossible. His soft lips were gentle, yet demanding against hers, and it was the most erotic thing she had ever experienced, however innocent it might seem. He kissed her with such a heat that it made her feel intoxicated, and she gave up a soft moan into his mouth. Kal's own breathing was hitched. He cupped her face with both hands gently and kissed her with all the passion he could muster, putting all his feelings, that were locked away for years, into the kiss. His heart did a flip of joy, and a satisfied groan came from the back of his throat when Diana's slender fingers tangled in his hair and pulled gently.

They had been trying to suppress their feelings for a long time. Now, it felt like they were releasing themselves with every kiss that was shared.

After the much needed make out session, Kal pulled way slowly, watching his blushing and panting Goddess lovingly. He put his forehead against hers.

"The woman I love is my best friend," he whispered to her. "But you already knew that, didn't you?"

"I've thought about it once or twice. Bringing me here was more confirmation. But you've shown me with everything else you do and have done. From worrying about me and protecting me, and our late night phone calls."

"I didn't know the right moment and...I didn't want to make things complicated between us. I still should've known better because our relationship is about honesty. Even if you didn't feel the same way, you needed to know the truth. I love you, Diana.

"I told you before, what woman wouldn't fall for you when knowing you? I was in a way speaking for myself. Our lives are already complicated, our relationship is too being who we are but we know how to make things work for us. I love you, too, Kal."

She stroked his cheek with tenderness and gifted him with a sensual kiss on the lips, both feeling complete bliss that only the love they had for each other could bring.
