First off, this is a challenge fic from The Swordslinger, and one I've been meaning to pick up for a while, but only just decided to do now. The challenge is basically to make a team of Naruto plus characters from three other franchises, and then AU all four franchises to fit into the RWBY-verse. So, with that in mind, I'm going to do just that, but no promises the crossover elements won't add a little bit more than required… not sure where this is gonna go, honestly.
Anywho! The franchises I've chosen are Naruto, Puelli Magi Madoka Magica, Touhou Project and Blazblue to create a team of Naruto Uzumaki, Kyoko Sakura, Nitori Kawashiro and Jin Kisaragi. I wonder how well this is gonna go? Only one way to find out!
Chapter I: Welcome to Beacon Academy!
Naruto Uzumaki couldn't help but smile to himself as he saw the airship make its landing to pick him up. Turning to look at his guardian, the old woman smiled back. She was covered in wrinkles, had long white hair and a pair of deep, brown eyes. Wearing a blue kimono and showing no visible signs of any weaponry, one might think that Mito Uzumaki was a prime target for all manner of criminals and Grimm. They would be sorely mistaken, however. "Your siblings have already caught their ships, and now its time for you to finally leave our Temple, little Naruto. I think you'll like Beacon, it's where your mother went to become a Huntress." He nodded.
"That's why I chose it, grandma Mito. I feel like it'll bring me a little closer to her, even if we won't be able to see each other again." Naruto Uzumaki, himself, wore something that definitely would stand out. Adorned in a blue yukata with black trimming and kept together by a blue obi, it had a large, red spiral on the back that closed in on itself – the Uzumaki family crest. Naruto himself was tall, easily standing at six feet, even without the extra few inches the spikes of blonde he called hair added. Of course, his hair was hidden from the world by the conical, straw hat that was shielding his eyes from the sun. In his hand, he held a ringed staff made of some material that was so dark, black hardly began to describe it.
Looking at the airship, which had finally landed and was extending its loading ramp, the boy gave Mito a hug. "Don't let that old drunk wreak too much havok, okay?" The woman laughed and nodded in agreement. "Come on, Kurama. It's time to get to work." There was a soft yip from the ground near Naruto's luggage, which turned out to be a fox. Said fox was far larger than any natural one might be, with bright red fur, aside from the tip of its tail – which was orange. As Naruto walked with his luggage, his vulpine partner followed after obediently.
As soon as he entered the airship, he looked around and noticed a member of the crew waving him over. "I'll take your luggage off of… is that a fox?" The man sighed, but shook his head. "Just make sure it doesn't bite anyone. I'll take your luggage and stock it in the cargo bay. We'll be heading to Beacon very soon. Vytal Island is our second to last stop, we still have to drop off in Patch for two more passengers, but we'll be on our way after that."
"Don't worry, Kurama only bites Grimm and tribals." Naruto assured the man as he handed over his things. "Thanks for letting me know. Come on, Kurama, let's go by the window." The fox obeyed and they found their way on the side where they could still see Mito. Waving goodbye, he grinned as his great-grandmother waved back cheerfully. Looking over at the only home he'd ever known, he spotted the Uzumaki Temple and the settlement that had sprung around it since before the Great War. He would miss running through the halls, training with his auntie Tsunade and her friends, playing with his siblings and the other children, like Konohamaru, but he was going to become a Huntsman. It was a promise he made with his brother and sister. "Menma, Wakame… we're finally going to become Huntsmen and protect Vytal, just like we said we would all those years ago. I hope you guys are settling in to Atlas and Shade well enough. I can't wait to see how much you've improved at the Vytal Festival." His grin widened as the thought flew through his mind. "It'll be great, won't it, Kurama?" The ensuing yip seemed to be one of agreement, Naruto thought.
Further down the airship, unnoticed by the Uzumaki and his fox, a blue-haired girl watched everyone nervously as she tinkered with something in her hands. Her hair was swept down to her shoulders, with the sides done up in twin tails while her eyes matched her hair in color. She wore a blue top with long sleeves over a white undershirt – which could only be seen if she bent – and a blue, pleated skirt beneath that. Further down, one could notice the nearly knee-high boots she wore. Most interestingly, though, was the fact that she had on a very large backpack which seemed to be two or three times larger than the girl, with straps that crossed over her chest in an X-formation. She didn't have any visible weapon, though the contraption in her hands looked oddly like some sort of firearm she was repairing even while keeping an eye on other people.
"You alright?" The bluenette nearly jumped at the sudden voice. Looking at the person who spoke, the girl saw someone just an inch shorter than her with a waist-length ponytail of bright, red hair and a pair of similarly colored eyes. She took a bite out of an apple she was holding even as she looked at the bluenette with a little worry. Her outfit consisted of a red, sleeveless top that extended down to her knees, though it was unbuttoned from her midriff down. The interior of her outfit, starting from the waist down, had some sort of pink, silk-like material had the look of a skirt the way it was ruffled. Below the top, she had a black undershirt that transitioned into a red, pleated skirt that extended halfway to her knees. Thigh-high, black socks continued from there, until just below her knees where a pair of brown boots were worn, folded over for two inches at the top to show they had pink interiors. Her arms had a pair of detached, pink sleeves with black cuffs. The last thing the nervous girl noticed was that the redhead had a large golden polearm with a very oversized spearhead of gold and red that seemed to be extendable, if the segmentation told her anything. "You've been looking pretty panicked since you got here. I'm Kyoko, by the way. Kyoko Sakura." Kyoko then offered the other girl an apple that she pulled from… well, she wasn't paying attention.
"I'm Nitori Kawashiro." The backpack-wearing girl responded. "I've just never seen so many people in one place… there's so many humans here." Nitori put the thing she was working on in her backpack and took the offered fruit, biting into it. "I'm from out in the White Curtain, there's a river near the Mountain of Demons that my guardian uses to power his factory. It's just him, me, a few of his employees and a lot of machinery." Kyoko nodded as she took another bit.
"I get it. I'm from Kyubey Village myself, that's further west, pretty close to the border with Vacuo. We've got more people out there, probably around forty families. This is just one airship though, I'm pretty sure that there's going to be even more people at the Academy, from what I heard. I don't think you'll get much trouble from the students though. Most of the people here seem pretty nervous, though that's probably first day of school anxiety." Kyoko finished off her apple and tossed it behind her, where it landed in a nearby trash can without looking at it. "Just stick with me and we'll be alright, kay?" Nitori nodded her head, thankful she found a friend so soon. Her nervousness was still there, but she was smiling now, so Kyoko figured she'd done a good job.
This was about the time that they landed for the final stop, Patch Island. After some time, two more girls got on, but most everyone ignored them. Naruto, however, paid attention due to Kurama's insistent whining. Looking at the pair, he didn't really see anything out of the ordinary. "I don't know what you're trying to tell me, boy. They look pretty normal to me." Deciding it would be quicker to get a little… power-up, Naruto placed his hand on Kurama's head even as his golden Aura glowed momentarily. Naruto's blue eyes turned red for an instant, with his spherical pupils elongating into slits. In that moment, his senses became as attuned as his foxy companions and he wrinkled his nose. "Branwen..." Petting the animal, he thanked Kurama. "One of them belongs to her tribe. Don't attack her, Kurama. We'll wait and see what's going on first, okay?" Kurama hesitated but nodded, getting a smile from his owner. "Just a little further and we'll be at Beacon, okay boy?"
At that moment, the attention of everyone on board was taken when a hologram popped up. All of the prospective students paid attention as the woman began to speak. "My name is Glynda Goodwitch. You are among a privileged few who have been selected to attend this prestigious Academy. Our world is experiencing an incredible time of peace, and as future Huntsmen and Huntresses, it is your duty to uphold it. You have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task and now it is our turn to provide you with the knowledge and the training to protect our world." As she finished, her hologram disappeared.
"Sounds like a bunch of uppity semantics." Kyoko mentioned to Nitori. "Still, I know Beacon's got a good record at pumping out skilled Huntsmen and Huntresses, so I won't judge the librarian too harshly."
"You… really like apples, don't you?" Nitori wondered as Kyoko somehow had another one in her hand.
"I like all food." Kyoko mentioned as they began their descent. "It should never go to waste, ya know? But yeah, I do like apples. Don't you?" Nitori looked at her barely half-eaten apple and shrugged.
"I mean, they're okay? I should've brought some cucumbers… I guess I'll just have to buy some in Vale when we get some free time." As the ship landed, a blonde boy wearing some armor rushed out of the vessel before anyone else could, moving straight to the trash can.
When Kurama whined, Naruto looked at the fox sympathetically. "I'm sure it smells pretty bad, but let's just get out of here as quickly as we can. Further you are from barf boy, the better it will be for you." Kurama nodded and they were the next ones out, walking at a sedate pace away from everyone else. Stretching his arms a bit, Naruto watched as the mob rushed out of the airship. Looking around, he saw all of the buildings, the fountains and the cobblestone walkway that led from the landing pad to all of them. "Well, it certainly is more urban than anything on Vytal. If this is just the Academy, I wonder what Vale City is like?"
As that train of thought trailed, Naruto noted that one of those two girls had been shaken up by the crowd and was trying to get her bearing as she tripped over some luggage. Rushing over to see what was going on, he found himself joined by two other girls who witnessed the same thing. Getting a better look at the girl, Naruto noticed she had short, black hair with red highlights, wore a red cloak and had on a very gothic looking top and skirt, complete with leggings and heeled boots. "Hey, are you okay?"
Naruto was the first to speak and helped the girl to her feet. When she stood, he noted that she looked pretty young. She was maybe 15 or 16. He had heard that it was possible to be enrolled into an Academy at an age younger than 17, but it required the Headmaster to personally approve it. Was this girl some sort of child prodigy? "Th-thanks… I don't know what happened there. I got caught in some sort of mosh pit and heaved when I should have ho'd..."
"What are you doing!?" All four of the teens turned to see a white-haired girl shouting. Making a guess, Nitori figured these were her suitcases. Somehow, that firearm she was tinkering with before made it into her hands again as she began to nervously mess with its parts. "Are you a dolt? Do you know what's in these?" Opening up one, she showed the gothic-looking girl a whole case of vials. "Dust! Fire! Ice! Lightning!" With each word, the vial in her hand moved left and right, agitating the substance and spreading it in the air, right under the girl's nose.
Naruto, Kyoko and Nitori all saw what was coming and had different reactions to it. Nitori backed up, fear obvious in her eyes. Kyoko threw the core of her apple right at Weiss' head. "Shut the fuck up before you cause an explosion, ya uppity bitch!"
Naruto, on the other hand, had quickly pulled the hooded girl back and flashed his Aura, dissipating the particles elsewhere and keeping the girl from causing a reaction using her nose. The white-haired girl rubbed her head and glared at the redhead. "How dare you hit me, you fiend! Don't you have any idea who I am?"
"Personally, I don't give two shits who the fuck you think ya are." Kyoko pointed out as she reached up, laying a hand on her spear. "I hate girls like you, who think just because your daddy has some kind of power, you can lord over the rest of us. Now move it along and leave my friends alone before I show you what makes Grimm run in fear from Crimson Bolt." The white-haired girl met the redhead's stare and was very close to drawing her own weapon when another boy showed up behind her.
"Mind your temper, Weiss." He spoke coldly, as if emotion was a foreign concept to him. His hair was the same blonde as Naruto's, though it laid flat on his head, short aside from two bangs that framed his face. He wore a white, collared shirt beneath a blue blazer and matching slacks, and a pair of boots, as well as a katana hanging from his hip. "I know that your father sent me here to keep a watch over you as a favor the Kisaragi family owes him, but don't make my job difficult from the first day." Weiss glared at Kyoko before scoffing.
"Whatever, she's not worth it anyways. Let's go, Jin." The boy, Jin, allowed her to walk away before speaking.
"I don't know what she did but… she's a Schnee." He stated, as if that would explain everything and walked off.
As soon as he left, Naruto began laughing hard and looked at Kyoko. "Oh, that was great. I like you already. I'm Naruto Uzumaki, by the way. You wouldn't happen to know a girl named Tayuya, would you?" Kyoko shook her head. "That's a shame, you remind me a lot like her."
"I'm Kyoko Sakura." She introduced herself. "And this is Nitori Kawashiro. Honestly, I just can't stand upper-class bullies who think that they can do whatever they want all because of blue blood, or some stupid bullshit like that. What about you?" She looked at the girl she had just defended and was very willing to fight another person to stand up for.
"Um… I'm… I'm Ruby Rose." She introduced herself. "Thank you guys… but, did you mean what you said?" When Kyoko looked puzzled, Ruby specified. "Did you mean it when you said the thing about being your friend?" Kyoko grinned, wondering how she always found either headstrong people like Sayaka or the shy ones, like Madoka.
"You bet I did. The more the merrier, I say."
"I'll second it. We're all here from somewhere in Remnant, Ruby. We're pretty much all alone and maybe even nervous, so I don't see why we can't all be friends." Naruto piped in, which made Kyoko put him under the Sayaka list very quickly. Well, maybe Mami, it would depend on how motherly he began acting towards. Nitori didn't say anything but nodded her agreement even as she continued to tinker with the firearm.
Ruby grinned at that. Maybe Beacon wouldn't be so bad after all?
And that's it!
This is the beginning of what I hope will become a story you guys like.
So, the big question I've got, is should I do trailers or just continue as it is? Either way, I'll be doing the actual story pretty quickly.
Since I know I'll be getting questions about this, I have no idea what sort of pairings there will be aside from the fact that there will likely be no harem. Convince me and perhaps your chosen pairing will show up.
Aside from that: how did you like or dislike it? Let me know in the reviews, PM or on my Discord server at Discord – dot – gg – slash – PWDD44v!
Orpheus out! Ja ne!
