This story is set after Daniel decides to leave The Next Step in season 2.
"Daniel has decided to leave The Next Step", said Miss Kate. Giselle's world crashed down around her, at those words. Her best friend was leaving the place they had called their home, since they were 5.
They had been through so much together, and now he was leaving. Thalia caught her eye, just before she stormed from Studio A. She couldn't deal with this right now. She felt like her collar was choking her. It was tightening around her throat, and the room was closing in around her.
Thalia made to run after her, but Riley held her back. "Give her some time. Believe me she needs it".
Giselle didn't know where she was going to go. She thought about her predicament, and realised what she needed to do. Dance. Studio B was her decided destination. She arrived at Studio B and turned on 'Fire'. She was dancing a solo, she had been working on.
Daniel was going to Studio B to dance out his feelings. He didn't want to leave. Not really. He didn't even particularly want the Nationals Solo. He was in fact finding himself with feelings for someone. And he tended to be bad at having feelings, for people. It generally turned out badly so he was going to run this time, because he wasn't going to ruin what they had, already.
When he went in he saw Giselle, and she was dancing a solo. She had always been an amazing dancer, but this time was different. She was leaving all her emotion on the floor. Her technique was phenomenal, and her tricks were insane.
So he did what any sane person would do. He stayed and watched. He sat on the bench, and watched his best friend move, to the music.
He had discovered his feelings for her at the age of 12, and watching her dance now made him realise he couldn't leave. Not now. He was going to fight for her. Then the music stopped. Giselle came over and sat next to him.
"What do you want Daniel". "You. It's you I want. It always has been". Her features contorted into a look of shock. "This", she indicated between them, with her hand, "Can't happen, you're leaving and I don't want to have a realationship with someone, from a rival studio. I can't let myself have feelings for you. I'm sorry". "Just say you want me to stay and I will", he pleaded. Giselle couldn't let him give up his dream for her. He had wanted to be a professional dancer, since he was 5. She wasn't going to be the reason he threw away the chance to do a solo, for nationals.
He looked heartbroken, but he didn't say anything. He just stood up, and left Studio B. She instantly felt pain wash over her being, but she had made the right choice. She had let him go because she loved him, and she knew he deserved happiness.
Daniel however wasn't leaving the studio. He was going to Miss Kate's office. He reached the office where the woman was hard at work, and knocked on the door. "I'm sorry am I interrupting anything", he asked. "No Daniel what can I do for you", she said with a smile.
"I've been thinking, and well if you'll have me I'd like to stay, here", he pleaded, "This is my home, and my family". Kate looked at him with a knowing smile before asking cheekily "So this doesn't have anything to do with a certain redhead, that makes you get all googly eyed". "Maybe". "Well Daniel no matter what the reasoning we'd be happy, to have you". "Thank you, Miss Kate". As he went to leave she spoke up, "Oh and for the record Daniel you'll be more than welcome to challenge for the solo, if you wish". "I'll think about it".
When Daniel left Kate thought about his new attitude. She had to admit she liked it. Maybe being in love even if he couldn't admit it yet was changing him, for the better.
The next day the team walked into Studio A and found Daniel rehearsing his solo. He was a phenomenal dancer, although he rarely showed emotion while dancing. Giselle was shocked to see him here. He was meant to be at Superstar Dance.
She didn't realise she was staring until the music ended, and he looked at her. Then he looked away, and she was disappointed. He turned to Eldon, and without menace said, "I told Miss Kate that I would like to stay. But for that to happen I need us to be ok", he put his hand out to shake Eldon's.
Eldon took his hand without hesitation, and said, "I want us to have a rematch. I don't want to be the soloist, unless I'm absolutely sure I'm the best choice". "Ok but no hard feelings, when I kick your ass", he added in a wink so Eldon knew he was playing, with him.
He moved over to his friend. "Giselle can we talk", he was desperate for her to see how much he liked her, how much he needed her. "I can't talk to you right now. I need to be alone". All he could do was watch her, as she left.
Giselle needed to dance, so she went to Studio B. She needed to clear her head. She knew how Daniel felt about her, but she didn't know how she felt about him. She knew she liked him, as a best friend but how did she feel about him as more than a friend. He was a great dancer. He was good looking. She loved his personality. She loved him. Wait, where did that come from.
Daniel needed to find Giselle. She may not love him, but he would always love her. He found her in Studio B. It was becoming their place. She was doing her solo again, and watching it made him love her, all the more.
When she was finished he approached her. She wrapped her arms around him, and hugged him. "I'm sorry Daniel. I was so cold to you and I was wrong". "It's ok. Are you planning to audition for the solo". She suddenly drew back. "I don't think I can. I'm not sure I'm good enough".
Daniel was shocked. He didn't know she had such low self esteem. "Come with me. I have something to show you", he grabbed her hand, and pulled her with him. They went to the Baby Ballet studio. "What are we doing here Daniel". "This is where you first established yourself as one of the best dancers, at The Next Step. Out there...in Studio A. Thats where you could establish yourself as the best. You just need to let it happen".
She once again hugged him tight and whispered in his ear, "You know, I like you too". He thought his heart would skip a beat, as he pulled back to look at her. Something came over him, and his lips were on her's. She liked him back, finally.
"I'm going to audition for the solo". "I'm glad, but I have a favour to ask", he really wanted this to work, "I want you to help me add to my moveset. I can do technical dancing but I want to be able to do more tricks, like the other guys. If I'm going to impress you, I need to be a good dancer". "You already have".
