Chapter One: Alone
"Murdock, B.A., could I ask you a favor?" Hannibal asked as he lead them to a secluded room.
"What is it, man?" replied B.A.
"I'm about to go undercover to stop the trafficking on the border. I need you guys t0 follow the Presley Casuals truck from behind and come out for an ambush when I call out. I don't want Face to know, I know he'll be worried about me since I'm going alone."
"I don't know about this Hannibal, I mean, Face is your son. He should know about this," Murdock tried using reason.
"The fool's right, Hannibal. Won't Face be more worried when you just go disappearing out of nowhere?"
"I'm sure Tem will be fine. Just tell him we're going somewhere for a couple of hours," Hannibal persuaded convincingly.
"Okay, Hannibal, this plan of yours better work though," Murdock caved with a pang of guilt knowing he'd have to lie to his best friend.
"Thanks, guys," Hannibal said as he left the room as the others followed. He too, in fact, felt an uneasy feeling about lying to his son, but the plan would go more smoothly without a nervous team member. What he didn't realize was that deciding to not bring Face would be a nearly fatal decision on his part.
"Hey, Tem, Murdock, B.A., and I are going on a supply run. Could you watch over the house while we're gone?" Hannibal asked.
"Shouldn't I come to get supplies, it is kind of my job?" Face questioned.
"We have everything covered. We'll only be gone for an hour or so," Hannibal countered.
"Okay..." Face replied with a quizzical look.
"We'll see you soon, Kid."
Face didn't want to point it out, but there was something odd about his father's demeanor. It was like he was hiding something. He's a conman so he should know. But in the meantime, he was stuck sulking all alone in the house.
While he was doing that, Hannibal's half cooked plan was just being put into action as he boarded the Presley Casuals truck, unaware he walking towards his own defeat.
Murdock and B.A. were left to follow behind, at least they were until their truck broke down on the side of the road, leaving Hannibal alone to fight those enslaving bastards.
"Come on, B.A., you need to fix this truck, who knows what's happening to Hannibal!"
"Shut up, fool, or I'll crush Herman! That crazy bug of yours is nothin' but trouble!"
"Says the man who threatens everyone who crosses him," he mocked. "Herman is a valuable member of this team, you ugly mudsucker, and should be treated as such."
"Can you two stop fighting! We need to help Hannibal," Amy reasoned.
"Sure Chiquitita, you're right," Murdock agreed.
"Finally someone listens to me," Amy huffed exasperatedly.
While Face was alone the hours slowly inched by, soon Hannibal had been gone for three hours. He was getting more paranoid by the minute that his father had left him. 'I should've known it wouldn't last. Hannibal said he'd never leave me but they always do. I guess he realized that I am worthless. I can't blame him. Maybe he's happier this way?'
Soon Hannibal had realized the clear mistake in his plan, Face wasn't in it. But while he was stuck in the heat box, all he could think was about his son and how he had screwed up big time. 'He must be scared to death right now, I've been gone for an extra two hours. Hopefully, he doesn't think I left him. But knowing his fragile self-esteem when it comes to people leaving him he probably does, we'll have to work on that. I should've brought him along, I'm such an idiot!'
"B.A., I'm going to a pay phone to call Face. We've been gone for way too long," Murdock announced.
"I don't think Hannibal wants that, fool," B.A. objected.
"Face is the only one who can help us now. With Hannibal already there, the smugglers are expecting us. We've lost our element of surprise," Murdock convinced.
"Okay, call him and tell him to meet us here. It will take a while to fix this thing anyway."
Murdock then set off to find a pay phone. Luckily, there was one nearby.
Face heard the phone ringing and went running to pick up the receiver.
"Hi, Face, it's Murdock."
Face started shooting out questions, "Murdock! What's going on? Why have you been gone so long?"
"Slow down, muchacho, it's a long story."
"Well, what happened?"
"Hannibal went undercover alone to stop the trafficking ring. He didn't want you to know because he knew you'd be worried."
"What! Why didn't you tell me?"
"As I said, he knew you'd be worried."
"Let me guess, this half-baked plan blew up in his face and now he needs me to bail him out."
"He's gonna be wishing he was still in those slimeball's clutches by the time I get through with him. Where are you?"
"On the side of the road leading to where the captives are being held, our truck broke down."
"I'll be there soon," Face rushed out of the house and ran to his Corvette and started the ignition, heading to where his team was stranded.
