Green Scale

Chapter 1 ~ Awakened Quirk

Rated M

I Don't Own My Hero Academia

Hello everyone and welcome to the story…

I'm honestly a big sucker for dark fantasy, as my favourite manga is Berserk, so it would come as no surprise that I wanna have a fic about MHA that is reeking with all that.

Once upon a time, when I was actually trash (who the hell are you kidding author-san, you're still a garbo writer) I tried my hand at a Villain Deku story, but it was so cringe and edgy that I deleted it from my mind, until the PTSD kicked in and I lost my shit, but this time, I have thought it out and checked all 1 pages of the mha fanfic archive to find that not a soul has already thought of this, so I'm going with it.

From the very start of this fic, you will probably realise that YOUNG MIDORIYA SHOUNEN will be pretty stronk and dank in the end, but I'm not a man that cuts corners, so I will start from the very beginning, where I aim to have Izuku slowly turn from Moral Jesus to the devil himself, though not to a point where he's a generic villain, and to show the various cracks that eventually lead to his turn.

Honestly, I think y'all will like this one, as it's gonna be one thicc story filled with twists and turns that will hopefully make D&D's dreadful attempt at Game of Thrones Season 8 look like crap compared to this, though I'm not making any promises.

This will start in the first season, right after (generic hentai monster #98) the slime villain attacks YOUNG MIDORIYA SHOUNEN and gets fucking ploughed by All Might's fist (could have worded that better, author-san…) and will continue past the recent events of the manga, which for me is right after the liberation army or whatever the hell those clowns are called.

You can at least expect YOUNG MIDORIYA SHOUNEN to finish his third year of UA before the final arc, so prepare your anu- eyes and ears for this story, because it definitely won't be flamed by Introverts (don't lie author-san, it will you pussy).

But anyway, feel free to comment your opinion about each chapter, and any praise/actual helpful critiques are greatly appreciated. I'm only doing this for my own enjoyment and not for any sort of weird profit, so please don't kill me in the reviews...

Anyway, now that my brain cells have recovered from doing my math revision, I hope you all enjoy this story enough to not compare it with a baka-go x buzz lightyear fic you found on Wattpad.

(yes ...they do exist...and now my will to live doesn't)

Now...commence the edge!

(in The Future)

Dear Class 3-A

It probably comes as a pretty big shock with me writing to you even after all that went down the last time we all met…

It's been a good 3 years I spent with you all, and in that time, I learned various things about the world, some things my naive self should have known from the start, and for that, I honestly couldn't be more thankful. It's thanks to you all that I'm actually able to stand tall and look over Japan from the clouds, for giving me the motivation to commit the most shocking deeds and say the most controversial things.

You guys, who up until this year, I thought of as my precious comrades, are all probably biting your nails in suspense right now, and I don't have the right to blame you for it. We have been through many hardships together. Whether it be the sports festivals, the hero killer's rampage, the league of villains constant attacks, the death of some of our friends, and even my multiple confrontations with Red Scale. In every one of those times, you were watching me, pushing me forward.

How could I know what would happen?

You can imagine my wrath when I saw her, lying there…

That poor girl that didn't have a single wicked bone in her frail little body. Killed like a pig in a slaughterhouse and tossed aside like a used battery. The bile rising in my throat on that day was only overshadowed by the flames of hatred that enveloped me, and it's shocking that you are even breathing after that…

Hatred is the strongest emotion in the human mind, and can lead to an awakening of sorts…

Such is the power of my quirk, one that none of you could even comprehend…

My hatred for you, my hatred for the teachers, for the league, for the school as a whole, and for the world itself is a flame that is being constantly enlarged by the metaphorical gasoline that is my green fire. Day by day, I grow even stronger, to the point that, soon, none of you will even be significant enough to look at with these eyes of mine, and in the near future, I will hold a power equivalent to a god.

My wrath is my power; not some blurry ideology that the senile blonde hero tried to shove down my gullible little throat, and with said wrath, I'm going to pry open the world and force it to change by brute force.

I would wish you luck, but that would be pointless…

Defeat me if you can…

Yours truly…

Izuku Midoriya...

(Present Day)

Izuku was walking home from school that day, just after another horrid day courtesy of Bakugou's cruelty. How anyone would want a psycho like that saving their lives was beyond him. The pain and humiliation of being a victim of bullying had long since faded into irrelevance for Izuku, and now, he just sighed and took the beatings instead of trying, and always failing to stand up for himself or those around him.

He looked at being bullied as an advantage in life, being able to know that the world's a dog eat dog world from a young age, and the fact that horrible little monsters like Bakugou would always plague his time on this planet. He was naive, sure, but someone with the natural genius of Izuku could tell obvious facts of life from a mile away, and all of these "unfortunate outcomes" were all due to him being weak.

That was all there was to it...

The day hadn't been all bad though, as he was able to meet with All Might after he defeated the slime monster that was seemingly going to kill him. All Might was and still is his number 1 idol in the entire world, the symbol of peace that had made Izuku's feet trudge their way to school even in the worst times of his life. He was someone that shone a much needed light inside Midoriya's world, and it was unthinkable how anyone could hate him.

Izuku, or Deku as Kacchan called him, was a powerless loser in society, quirkless and frail, meaning that he was completely at the mercy of almost any villain that dared attack him, and most of the time, he could do nothing about it. Of course, his brother taught him various forms of martial arts before he departed for America, but that would do little to nothing without a power quirk like All Might, so he was just helpless to not just criminals, but his middle school bullies.

People like Midoriya were never able to succeed in the first place, doomed for a life of failure by the asshole god that granted people these powers at random. He couldn't ever be a hero, not with his pathetic strength, and the only jobs he could do were office work and part time things that only got him enough for food and electric, because quirk users had long since taken all the worthwhile jobs away in the blink of an eye.

With the rise of the supernatural people came both benefits and setbacks for the ordinary, and those setbacks heavily outnumbered anything positive. Why on earth would you want some average joe working with you when you could have a gifted person with superpowers that could come in use? People didn't just change into devils overnight and discriminated. It was just the obvious way things would go.

It was truly an unfair world he lived in…

Though Izuku wasn't one to bitch and moan about things like hardship, as he'd already experienced enough of that in the past. He just needed to see it through to the end, wherever that end may be.

Speaking of hardship; Izuku was no stranger to the feeling of loss, and had his hopes and dreams crushed multiple times….

Just a few moments ago, All Might had told him that he couldn't be a hero without a quirk, and while that would completely crush the dreams of everyone else should they have been in the same position, Izuku just accepted it, because to some extent it was true.

Surprisingly, All Might was false in his beliefs, as quirkless people actually could become heroes if they had special talents, but on the other hand, he was right in that no man or woman without a quirk would ever be significant anymore.

A depressing fact, but one that the Midoriya family was well aware of from its creation.

He used to be in a family of four, a happy family that was never in any danger at all…

Inko Midoriya - His Mother that was still with him to this day, being the only person important to him that was still around. When the eldest son and father left to work overseas, she began to go through a stage of grief, and with the diagnosis of her son's lack of quirk, she developed an eating disorder. She was still holding on to some deluded hope, for the sake of her son, who is now the last thing she has left in her life.

Michael Midoriya - Izuku's father and the genius Scientist that worked for his own research company in America called Blazing Fang Labs that he happened to be the founder of, which specialised in the thorough research of quirks and even the development of new quirks, some saying to be superior to the original. His legacy was known worldwide and he was hailed as being the single most powerful man in the west with his vast network of hero agencies that he could call on a whim.

Akira Midoriya - his beloved brother that was once regarded as the future no.1 hero by none other than Nana Shimura with his great quirk and his incredible intellect. He received offers that practically begged him to go to schools like UA and Shiketsu high, but he turned them all down when he accompanied his father across the seas to America. He now stands as the vice president of the entire organisation and also stands as America's strongest quirk user, with people going as far as to say that he is comparable to All Might and Endeavor in the east.

His father and brother stood at the very top of the world, but not a single person knew they were related to Izuku, and that was because Michael wanted to keep them out of the public eye, protecting them from any villains trying to get back at him, and it worked. Though they shared the same last name, they were just the most mediocre pair that no one would ever think the four to be an actual relation.

Shortly after being diagnosed quirkless, his father kept telling him that he did have a quirk, and his brother, the more rational and logical of the two, wholeheartedly supported his father's beliefs. In any other case, Izuku would have thought his father was deluded, but both of them cared enough to not make him lose sight of reality, and the fact that they were saying that to him meant that he could actually have a power...

And although the lack of harassment from the media wasn't horrible, it meant that he'd probably not see his father and Akira until he was able to travel over to America with his mom in the future.

"I wonder what Akira would do in this situation…"

He was turning a corner when he heard various shrieks, loud and obnoxious, coming from a few buildings away, and when he looked up out of habit, he could clearly see the black fumes of smoke that surrounded the area in question.

"More villains?" he asked himself in a far more drained way than usual.

He would normally jump at the chance to see a villain attack in the flesh, not because he was some disturbed freak that got off on watching people die, but because when the heroes showed up, he would be able to get useful info on them all. Originally, he intended to use it as a guide for when he became a hero, so he could strengthen himself by improving the flaws of the heroes he saw, but since he was diagnosed as quirkless, it had reverted back to a hobby that never truly vanished from his mind.

Though now, he was just tired of the whole thing for today, after having one of his notebooks tossed in the trash by Baka-go of all people, and those introverts that stuck to him like infested leeches. Just the thought of them made him mad.

However, he just couldn't pass up the opportunity to see a villain attack, personal feelings aside.

Slowly, he walked towards what would become the single most defining moment of his life.

A moment that would awaken something within Midoriya that would transform him into the hero he always wanted to be, or so it seemed…

Walking up to the crowd of people, he saw that they numbered over 200 and they all looked far more appalled than usual.

The villain that showed up in the morning, just before he got to school, was some small fry that while having a strong quirk, didn't know how to use it and was easily dispatched, and all of the onlookers looked like they couldn't care less as long as they didn't go into the line of fire.

But this was different…

People with sweat running down their faces and gulps occasionally being heard as Izuku got closer to the front. Some of them whispered things about it being 'terrible' and 'a horror' which was the norm whenever a powerful villain came about.

As he reached the front, he was surprised to see the hero Death Arms sprawled out on the floor, groggily getting back to his feet after being knocked back by whatever villain he was fighting.

Now that was concerning enough…

Death Arms, one of the new promising heroes that had just jumped onto the scene, was already ranked in the top 200 heroes in Japan and was known for his strength quirk that allowed him to bend steel without even breaking a sweat and throw punches that could shatter stone. Compared to All Might, he was but a cheap knock off, but he was still damn formidable. For a hero such as him to be pushed back is a very worrying thing.

Meanwhile, Mt Lady, another newcomer on the rise, was stuck on a small road with the huge risk of collateral damage if she challenged the villain. She was helpless in a situation like this…

Backdraft, a member of the Musutafu fire department, was already having his hands full with the raging fire, using his water quirk to quell the flames.

And finally, Kamui Woods, who was already well into the top 100 ranked pro-heroes, was useless due to the fire in front of him.

Izuku gritted his teeth in frustration, angry at the pathetic display…

People were dying because they were too scared to be injured by the fire…

Suddenly, a frail old man caught his eye, mustard yellow hair sticking out like a sore thumb and his sunken features making Izuku question whether he should call an ambulance for him instead of the people dying in the fire. He was in terrible shape and looked to be even more worried than the rest of the crowd, but his face seemed similar some how…

But why?

However, as he stared straight ahead into the raging fire, a figure could be seen in the near distance, swirling around in a liquid like state, its thick appendages reaching out and sending buildings toppling with ease. Inhuman laughs echoed off of the walls and debris crumbled onto the ground with every attack.

Yup, it was a strong one, possibly of the S Class of villains.

But upon taking another hard look at the monster, Izuku felt a small wave of sweat wash over his entire body. His blood ran cold and he began to panic as he recognised which villain was causing this mayhem.

That slime…

Then, it all came back to him…

When he grabbed All Might's leg in the thick of the moment, he must have loosened the heroes grip on the bottle he was holding, resulting in what was in front of his eyes now…

It was his fault…

That was all he felt right now, along with the crippling fear of seeing the face of the villain that nearly took his life…

But then, he saw a head of blonde hair in the vortex of sludge, and the raging red pupils of the boy he hated most in the world…

"Kacchan!?" he suddenly cried out.

The boy in question being Katsuki Bakugou, was being drained by the monster, using his powerful explosion quirk to try and blast away the villain, but all that ended up doing was causing the fire that was stopping Kamui Woods. He struggled like a wild beast that had been locked in a cage, starving and angry, but Izuku saw fear in his face.

Those dark red eyes that usually swam with hatred and cruelty inside were now showing something akin to primal terror as he struggled for his life. That monster could easily end his life with a single squeeze, but it was choosing to absorb him instead to gain his quirk and power, so even some rash idiot like Bakugou could tell that his life was very much at risk.

Despite himself, Izuku couldn't help but worry.

Without thinking, he dropped his bag on the floor and pushed back the crowd of useless spectators, avoiding Death Arms' shocked expression as he jumped over the downed hero.

People began to shout for the other heroes to rescue him, but he paid them no heed. He could tell that none of them would be able to save him if he ran any further now, and he had no intention of looking back.

What happened to him? What was this force that propelled him to rush forward and attempt to save this bastard that had driven him near suicide multiple times? There was only one answer, which was the heroic trait he possessed from watching All Might so much. Courageous bravery was good and all, but he was heading right into the maw of an S ranked villain to save his childhood bully, risking his body and life for someone he considered scum…

So why?

He crashed into the huge mass of green sludge, but it had no impact at all…

It didn't deter him though, as he clawed his way into the things arm, if you could even call it that, to see the face of Bakugou which was bathed in terror.

'Ah, now I get it…' he thought to himself. 'He's the one that caused the fire…'

"D-Deku!?" the blonde student almost gargled as the boy came into view. He looked down to see the little runt clawing at this beasts arm and grit his teeth in frustration. "You damn nerd! What are you playing at!"

"I'm saving you!" Izuku shouted back, desperately trying to dislodge his arm from the thick sludge.

"The hell you are! You're gonna get us both killed!"

That was true, and Midoriya knew that very well, but he'd be damned if he didn't at least try.

The monster turned its bloodshot eye to the small teenager and a wicked smile crossed his face. "Hehe...you're the brat from the sewers…" it's inhuman voice growled. "But he isn't here to save you now!"

Just as the monster finished that sentence, a huge hand invaded Izuku's vision.

"Shi-!"

*Crash!*

He was instantly sent into a nearby building, through a wall, and the pros looked on in horror.

"That bastard just killed a kid!" Death Arms shouted in rage, preparing to make another futile charge for the slime.

However, Izuku wasn't dead just yet…

He probably suffered numerous broken bones and internal bleeding, but despite his body being near shattered and his life looking more like a wisp of smoke than an entity, he dragged his feet and broke out into another sprint right for the villain. His legs were jankey and he almost hopped in and out of a jog while the slime laughed at him from the front.

"Is that all you got punk!? How weak!"

Again, Izuku charged at the villain, trying to tackle the thing down to the ground, and while in vain, it was the most he could do without a quirk.

"Dammit boy! Get out of there!" Kamui Woods screamed at him from the rooftops.

Izuku ignored them and punched the thing in the gut. "Che…" he growled, becoming accustomed to the shattering pain of his bones breaking. 'Physical attacks probably don't even hurt him unless they are as strong as All Might…' He thought to himself while unloading a flurry of weak punches.

"Gah, you're no fun kid…" the monster boredly commented as he grabbed Izuku and shoved him inside his chest. "Be devoured with your precious friend here!"

Again, he was in this position, humiliating and suffocating as he scrambled for the exit, but it was useless. Like being trapped in a glass cube underwater, there was no way out and struggling would make him die faster. If he could compare the pain to anything, it would be like being choked by an anaconda, his neck feeling like it would be crushed under the pressure.

He felt his conscience fading and his life being snuffed out like a dwindling flame…

'I-I can't d-die in a place like t-this ...dammit…' he thought weakly as the sludge engulfed him…

His life flashed before his eyes, and he looked back on his ruined childhood in desperation, how he wanted to be a hero, follow his brother, and be the next All Might…

He couldn't die here…

He refused to die here...

Before he died, he had the strength to open a single eye…

It was glowing in a blazing emerald light…

"I NEED POWER…"

All Might stood helplessly from the sidelines, watching Death Arms being launched across the street for the 7th time today. The situation was hopeless and the heroes could do nothing against this bastard villain.

At full strength, it would be easy for All Might to smash this villain into tiny fragments like before, but he had used up the time limit from his previous encounter with the slime monster, where he saved that fanboy…

Now, if he got involved, he would be lowering his limit even more and run the risk of exposing his weakness to the world. It made him feel horrible inside that he couldn't do a single thing to protect the child in front of him, but he wasn't stupid. With this child dying due to his lack of control, he would in turn be able to save hundreds more lives, making it a worthwhile sacrifice, even if it was a horrid thought from the symbol of peace of all people…

"Dammit, I'm so useless!" he cursed himself while wiping away the stray blood from his mouth.

Mt Lady was stuck in a small road while the other heroes had met their natural counter in the form of a physical nullifying villain, and that kid only had a few minutes left in him…

But then, when all hope seemed lost, a child came into view, running straight into the carnage that had even All Might hesitating…

"What!?" he gasped in shock as he realised it was the same green haired boy from before, Izuku Midoriya if he remembered…

The second name was something that All Might had heard about before, but this boy couldn't have been related to that man at all, it was impossible, but All Might watched in amazement and awe as the boy dodged Death Arms and ignored the heroes and crowd screaming at him to get back, proceeding to crash straight into the powerful villain.

'No fear at all… Just what the hell is this kid!?' Toshinori couldn't comprehend the bravery of this youth that seemed like a coward in their first meeting.

A feeling of warmth swelled in his heart at that moment, but it was snuffed out in the blink of an eye…

The boy was hurtled into a building, making everyone watching stop screaming and just fall into a shocked silence. It was only when Death Arms screamed aloud to the villain that everyone began to weep.

Death was common in this age, even publically, but to see a child be slain by a villain was truly a horrible thing…

All Might's eyes then suddenly darted back to the wreckage and saw the boy stand up again. 'How!? How is this quirkless boy even alive!?' he screamed in his head.

As the boy charged forward again and was about to be swallowed like the blonde before him, All Might knew that he needed to take action…

'No, I mustn't allow this boy to die today!' he swore as his form enlarged and steam began to drift in the wind. 'I have found the one!'

The people all turned their attention to All Might and their expressions brightened lightly, but that was turned away instantly when something out of this world proceeded to happen…

Out of nowhere, a blinding green light erupted from the villain, enough to make even All Might shield his eyes in pain, and the light felt like it would burn out his eyes…

But then, something caught his gaze, and the heroes blood ran cold as ice…

"That fire..."

"What is this!? My body is burning!?" the villain cried out in complete agony as the green light grew more and more intense. "Gaaahhh! Fire! I'm on fire! It burns!"

The screeching cry of the villain sent a wave of fear down everyone present as his eyes slowly began to bubble from the heat…

"What the hell is going on!?" Backdraft shouted to Woods.

"Not a clue, but some kind of fire quirk is at play! Evacuate the crowd now!" the hero shouted back in panic, taking a second to look back at the villain that was slowly dying from the fire…

The boiling eyes of the slime villain burned away into steam as a raging green and black fire replaced them and began spreading throughout its body at an alarming rate. The fire was no normal fire, even making the mighty Endeavor's fire pale in comparison, as it melted through the liquid flesh of the villain faster than anyone could possibly imagine.

The flames of a dragon…

Bakugou was then suddenly thrown from the villain by what looked to be the other boy's hand, which now resembled a claw...

The emerald blaze was about to engulf the villain whole when it ushered a final word.

"RED SCALEEEEEEEEE!" It screamed in absolute horror and dread as it was completely annihilated by the storm of green fire…

The spectators were all feeling an intense pain in their eyes from just looking at the flames, and the fire itself was raging with such a hot temperature that it was melting the floor with ease, like a hot knife through butter. Nothing that came into contact with it was likely to survive, and even the metal pipes below burst into steam from the close proximity.

Now that the villain had been killed, the heroes had begun to evacuate and take Bakugou to a safe location, but there was still no sign of the green haired boy that had probably been the culprit of incinerating that villain.

A whole load of people could hear the villains last words before being swallowed by the inferno, but none of them understood what it was, baring one person…

And that was All Might himself…

With all the fire and flames, everything past the slime monster was a no-go, and after hearing a certain supervillain's name being screeched out in terror, Allmight knew that something truly sinister had happened…

"I could never imagine someone like him being mentioned in this event…" the huge hero said to himself. "And for young Midoriya to be the cause of such a reaction, the flames of that bastard to be exact…" the hero frowned with a small bead of sweat dripping down his face.

He continued to scout for the boy, but all he could see was a vast sea of green fire engulfing everything he could set his sights on. The buildings toppled like a house of cards and the ground looked to be breaking at the seams through the sheer power of the fire.

How such power was in the possession of a mere teenager was beyond him, and how on earth he was compared to the horrid and terrifying Red Scale was far more disturbing a fact to think about right now…

Just the thought of the crimson dragon that almost ended his life with ease made him whiter than a sheet of paper, and despite his always smiling face being present in the most jarring of scenes, he couldn't help but stare in fear at the green fumes that were radiating from the surrounding area…

"How could this happen… No… Why has this happened…" All Might grasped the brow of his head in his hands. "To think that someone like young Midoriya is capable…"

The hero glared at the fire, rage and terror consuming him. "No, just incase my instincts are right, and this boy is even comparable to the Red Scale, I cannot engage. Yes… I must contact anyone who knows of this…"

His former sidekick instantly came to mind…

But even then, he couldn't just say that the boy that ignited such a heroic aura around him was some kind of devil, and All Might even thought about making Izuku his successor…

Giving One For All to someone with a quirk similar to his would probably doom the entire world, and not a single hero alive would be able to even touch him then…

The fire took several months to fully die out, and what remained was multiple streets and buildings being completely annihilated by the emerald fire that raged so strong that it took not only the entire Musutafu fire force to put it out, but every single water quirk user in the area.

Like it was sentient, the flames just refused to die when exposed to its natural weakness, water, and the damage it caused was equivalent to a huge bomb. Most onlookers described it as a demons flame, so strong that it would only die if the user willed it, but that was a huge hit to the morale of the fire brigade, so they nipped that rumour in the bud.

It quickly became the biggest story in Japan, the biggest mass fire in 15 years, since All Might tasted defeat for the first time in his career against someone with a quirk scarily similar to this one. The green flames were a symbol of terror within japan from that point on, not only because of their power, but because of the striking resemblance to the flames of a certain villain, so powerful and terrifying that the public were ordered to never speak of it again….

Only around 20 people died in the fire because All Might had the foresight to evacuate the entire area before assisting the fire crew, but it might as well have been 100, because any fool would be able to tell what kind of power this kind of fire possessed, and that was something that any other fire user was hard pressed to even compare with, let alone surpass.

As for the cause of this fire, police and the various hero agencies hadn't a single clue as to who the culprit was, but those three heroes that were there, as well as All Might and Bakugou, knew exactly who was to blame for this travesty, whether intentional or not.

However, when they all returned to the scene, the boy was nowhere to be found and even his bag that he dropped on the floor was gone like the wind. Where he was, remained a mystery to not only the heroes, but also his former best friend Bakugou, as he didn't once visit the Midoriya residence to check, for what reason, no one knew…

But the fact that a fire user on the level of the great Red Scale was roaming around in the form of a child was enough to send chills down all the heroes necks, though All Might held out some hope for the kid…

It was a huge guess, but Toshinori Yagi had to bet on young Midoriya following his dreams of becoming a hero and applying for the UA entrance exam. It was there that, if he used his quirk, all the other teachers would have proof of this boys existence.

Though most people, if they knew the truth, would instantly label Izuku as a cold hearted monster that is the spawn of the devil, the teachers and All Might would have one obvious job, and that was averting disaster.

If he could be turned and bent into the form of a hero, then All Might would be willing to risk giving Izuku One For All, which could possibly result in a hero so powerful that even the mighty Red Scale wouldn't look down on him…

And so, life went on like nothing had ever happened with the occasional whisper of Red Scales successor flying around, but UA and the villains in the underworld would soon know that the most vital and eventful year in japan and the world's history would be taking place next year…

When Izuku Midoriya took his first steps into Heroism...
